I hate it when mommy and daddy fight.

You weren't on the receiving end of "WHY ARE YOU ROLLING SO SLOW!?" ;)
Well, why WERE you rolling so slow?
Is it because you're an enemy spy trying to sabotage everyone else?
Because Escape + Resistance would be epic.
I've been roped into a game of Twilight Imperium on Saturday. Yeah, my arm is totally sore from all the twisting.
It's going to be a little different than usual, though. The game is full up with 8 experienced players. Each of those guys will have a newb to teach/coach/collaborate with through the game. The hope is to end up with more players willing to do this again.
I am one of the newbs. Does anyone have any good resources to study up with on hand? I'll be looking around myself, but I thought you guys might have some ready reference you would be willing to share.
Wish me luck, and hopefully Itsatrap is still speaking to me on Sunday
Check out my player aid, it'll help with the tech tree and how it impacts your units. The game may look a bit daunting from the outside but honestly once you start playing the core mechanics are really quite simple. Things get complicated once you start researching techs and have to account for special abilities, but that's where a nice player aid makes a world of difference.
Good luck and have fun! TI3 is one of my all-time favorites. Just remember that it's not a straight up war game; it's quite possible to win without fighting a single battle. Fleets are as much a deterrent as they are an offensive force so choose your battles wisely

TI3 is one of my all-time favorites.
I'd love to see it made for the iPad, or even the PC. FFG did such a fantastic job on Elder Sign: Omens, and I'm sure this would sell like hot cakes! Preorders for the Twilight Struggle PC game are surprisingly large, and that's a niche game.
I'm beginning to see why HIS didn't quite float your boat, however. A lot more action in TI3.
I finally got zombicide! It seems there is a new wave of boxes going out because the same day I got mine, amazon seems to have new ones available for under retail cost again (via CoolStuffInc)
Wife and I attempted one of the tougher scenarios tonight (3 times!). Got our asses handed to us (3 times!) Still fun!

This might not be the thread for this but could you help me register at Gamehead? I tried registering and some odd stuff happened.

I don't have any super powers to register people. When I registered myself a few months back it worked just fine. What happened?

The extra campaign (available here) is pretty cool, too.

It's funny. I was registering and at first it just wanted my username and email. I did that, clicked on the emailed link the site sent me, and I go onto a larger registration screen. It then asked me to use my current password in one of the fields. My current password? I didn't have one. I checked the email it sent me and it showed my username and my password. I went back to the site and entered my temporary password, and then my new password and other bio data. Clicked submit and it says the 'current password' is incorrect.
TL;DR Don't worry about it. I just thought if you knew a magical one-button solution off the top of yer head I'd be like, yippee! As it is I'll happily bug the admins.
Wish I could help Strangeblades!
Anyone seen any good black friday board game deals?
Anyone know what a freelance writer for boardgames gets paid?

I would pay you upwards of one American dollar per day to come live with me and play board games at my house. That's what you meant, right?

I'll double it. But still at Doak's house.

I'll triple it, but you have to play Troyes.

TWAAAAAAAH
He's up to $180 a month now.
For boardgames or about boardgames? There's a slight difference.

I'm being offered a chance to write content for a boardgame. I'm trying to determine what, if any, industry standard exists for freelance boardgame writers.

I'd imagine if you looked at normal freelancer pay and a subset of specialized freelancers you can get a decent idea what to ask for.

Plus room (and possibly board)! That's not too shabby for an almost-boardgame-writer-ex-journalist!
So Tanglebones mentioned a while ago that he and his wife played through the first chapter of Mice & Mystics and just rolled through the whole thing. It wouldn't surprise me if the first few scenarios were designed to mostly have a high degree of success. As a counterpoint, however, I started it with my daughter tonight (she's only four, so she's mostly in it for the story and to roll dice) and we got creamed. I was rolling for the villains and had a really hot hand, rolling all shields and cheese all the time. She was rolling bows for melee and swords for ranged, and not a lot of cheese. We were already up to "chapter 4" on the end marker before we even made it out of the sewer tile when she had to go to bed. I finished it up just for the heck of it, and the mice barely made it onto the second tile before chapter 6 and a game over was hit. So, it's definitely very possible to lose. Depends on how you roll.
Girlfriend that plays Labyrinth and Twilight Struggle? That's a keeper right there.
I'm looking forward to getting a multi-deck game in. Will certainly add another dimension to the card decision making process.
For those who are liking Mice and Mystics should check out the audio collection from Plaidhat that is read by Richard Sommer. All sale go to charity too so that is cool.

No kidding! I prefer to imagine that she's not real so that I can feel better about my non-gaming relationship
In all seriousness, which do you prefer out of Twilight Struggle or Labyrinth? Might consider adding one of the two to the old shelf of shame.

That is awesome and I will get it just to listen to the story.
Mono are we going to break out Mice and Mystics on the 1st at all? /hint hint /nudge nudge

Indubitably Bill. If Mono doesn't want to play it, I sure will. I've had two copies sitting on my table mocking me for two weeks now, and haven't been able to try it out yet.
I'm also hoping to get a game of Red Dragon Inn going as well.
I tried Mice & Mystics with the fiancee and mom in law again, second try at chapter 1. We only got to the second tile because they were both tired, but we seemed to be doing better.
Unfortunately, I think I've realized that both of them are more visual learners, and the lack of player aids means that they had a hard time keeping the different rules straight. Fortunately, there are printable player aids on BGG, so I think I'll print them out and see if that helps. I realized this might be the case when they did fine with Merchants & Marauders, much more complicated and has a giant player aid, but kept saying Mice & Mystics is really complicated, which it totally isn't.
