Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 - Catch All (Oliver North Approved)

Every year I say I'm not going to buy COD and every year I buy it, but play it less than the year before. I finished the COD4 campaign and played the MP extensively. This dropped a bit for the next game. I went from owning the game for 3 months, to 2, to a few weeks. I think I'm at this may be the one I finally pass on precisely because of going online and having everyone be gods on day 1. With past versions you could at least compete for a week or two. I'm sure the real "hardcore" players have all the maps memorized already, have all the best loadouts, etc.

It's really a shame. I've probably posted this before as well, but if only they could just have decent matchmaking where there was a chance of me getting matched up with similar players instead of being dropped in with guys like that.

There is skill-matching for this one, if you read up thread a bit. Not sure how well it's implemented, but it looks like they are trying to cater to everyone's skill level at least a little bit.

The Giant Bomb quick look is pretty amusing. People are already prestiging. :)

That's normal it's been up for 24hrs across different parts of the world.

I hate aim-assist.

Anyone else finding the burn victim motif distasteful?

No idea what you mean by that... my main complaint is that it really feels like a bit too much like Battlefield for my taste, but the game-play is tighter. I had fun playing for 1.5 hours after midnight :)

I only played the first mission and a half last night, but there were several burnings, including the explicit burning to death of:

Spoiler:

the guy in the troop carrier at the beginning of the Anglola level.

It seemed like they decided to not only amp up the sound, and shooting to 11, this time the carnage is going to 11. Now that I think about it, Treyarch has a history of grotesque burning going back to the flame thrower they did in World at War. I think I had become inured to the violence in this series, but this one has reawakened my disgust. And it certainly doesn't have the seriousness or message to justify the gore. I'm a little horrified that reviewers aren't even noticing it, and that this is going to end being a christmas gift for many young children.

This should probably be in a P&C thread, but my mind was blown (in a bad way) when I saw Ollie North in the game in the Giant Bomb Quick Look.

Well shoot. I'll bite - I rarely last for longer then a month of interest, but who knows.

Me too, I haven't heard anything bad about the PC port, and the reviews didn't sway me away from a purchase. I might have the game loaded by tonight, and I'll download MP and Zombies to get into tomorrow. Even though the community's small, we should get together for the new Zombie mode, and good ole fashioned MP.

I think you'll like it. The worry that some people seem to get hung up on about people being much better I still like to maintain really isn't one. Especially this version. The target acquisition and action of the guns feel improved. The base guns are very powerful.

Personally, the multiplayer at least feels really solid to me, the best time I've had with CoD multiplayer since MW2. The singleplayer feels mostly forgettable so far, but that's not what I'm really in it for.

Picked this up on PS3 - looking forward to it later tonight! I created a one-man clan to check out some of the Elite-related things. What I could see without playing BO2 yet seemed decent enough...had my MW3 and BO info cached in there too. Next up, cleaning out the friends list, because I have no clue who is who on it anymore.

Man, those sniper rifles sound meaty!

Well my ending was depressing as hell

Can someone on the 360 version test if the zombie mode supports 4 player split-screen? That would definitely push me over the edge to pick this one up.

You're just now horrified? Whats disgusting is seeing these parents that were showing up for each midnight release from MW and up to now buying these games for their 8 or 10 years old. The special ones even brought them with them.

Just reserved this over the web from a RedBox. That's kind of cool. And about what the 3 or 4 days of Blops will be worth to me.

There is something about this installment that took my opinion of the series from dumb, to gross and despicable.

My rental copy might be here tomorrow. I'm looking forward to playing. The last game I bought in the series was MW3

From the quick look it looks like Nuketown is on its own playlist. If so, I think that's a great decision.

Yep totally agree... of course they then screw up the fact that they dont have that many options for hardcore.

It appears the xbox servers are down.

I've been playing for about two hours with no problem.

They just popped back up for me 15 mins ago. Not sure what the deal was.

The airport scene in Modern Warfare 2 didn't do it for you? The game has always been pretty keen to push the boundaries in that respect, way back in the first Modern Warfare we saw scenes of torture and execution performed by the good guys, there's nothing new here.

This certainly isn't a game for children, some parents don't seem to understand that...

In other news, PC servers aren't working great currently, keeps giving the message that I've been kicked from the server as soon as it loads, and I'm not the only one. It was working fine last night!

Enjoying it so far on the PC. You were right Ranalin - gameplay seems tighter. Tried to jump in on a server with you and Swat, but it was full.

Hoping Activision patches in sweet guitar riffs for leveling up. COD is just not right without it.

Despite my better judgement I picked this up tonight for the 360. Gameplay does indeed seem to be a bit tighter in multiplayer, played about an hour of team deathmatch to get used to things. I still feel like meat for the grinder but not as bad as in other COD's. Played a bit of single player as well, has a bit of Indiana Jones adventure combined with military war movie thing going on. Not so sure what I think about the RTS like sections yet. I feel like they move to fast for me to make decisions on where to position my troops.

Feel free to friend me up on the xbox if anybody wants to play multiplayer or zombies sometime.

I think Infinity Wards was attempting something more than just shock value with No Russian, albeit not successfully. I didn't think it was either offensive or moving, just a little frustrating that I had no real choice. The thing that bothered me most previously was dangling the tourist family in the London terrorist attack in the last game. That was a very cheap and obvious attempt to evoke some emotion. The stuff in Blops 2 seems worse because it just seems like gore for gore's sake, or worse because it is cool. I just finished Spec Ops which also dabbles in burning, but at least they were trying to make a point (similarly unsuccessful to No Russian, IMO).

I like it so far. I'm not doing too bad, but man, I forgot how much of a learning curve there is going from 360 to PC. It's like I have to train my mouse hand to play twitch FPS all over again. I don't know how many 1 on 1 battles I've lost so far because I can't seem to spray the bullets towards the right body parts or something.

So far I already like it better than MW3 - it feels a lot tighter. The unlocks are cool, and the new perks system is fun for someone like me who always likes shooting the drones out of the sky and doing other support type stuff.

Think I'll pass on this one (bought them since CoD4 sans World at War) but I'm pretty backed up on games including Halo 4 which is serving nicely as my online MP jam.

This looks like another solid installment of the CoDs. I'm most intrigued by the "pick 10" class system. I'm also pleased to see Treyarch kept and even expanded upon their Combat Training mode. The League play sounds like lip-service to the meat-for-the-meat-grinder-types like yours truly. Hope we get some "1 week later" review updates to see if that feature actually lives up to the hype.

Yeah, but now you have that cruise ship map, which is pretty much the same kind of "ultra tight".

I spent the last two nights in TDM - so far looking very good. Not doing so bad either, although I already had the occasional run-in with a "killing machine"

Can't tell anything about Zombies or Single Player yet - not sure if I will touch the latter one at all.

Edit: Playing on PS3 btw. I find the framerate to be surprisingly solid.

Shoot me a message on Steam or jsut send a party invite and i'll jump in. The party system on the PC has been pretty solid (compared to past iterations).

Edit: Also make sure your party option is set to open.
