Google Android catch-all

Is there a trick to copying files to an Android Tablet? I've got the Samsung Note, and while I can open it up on my desktop, every file I try to move gives an error. Is there a thing I've got to do or install? I'm running Ubuntu, if that makes a difference.

What's the error?

There are two. The first, upon plugging it in, reads,

"Unable to mount GT-P3113
Error initializing camera: -60: Could not lock the device"

I've assumed that's just a camera problem. I can then open the internal folders. (Oddly enough, Ubuntu opens two subfolders, but I think one is the SIM card and one is the onboard memory.) Upon attempting to copy music, the error reads,

"Error while copying "10 - Don't Wake Me Up (Original Mix).mp3".
There was an error copying files to gphoto2://[usb:002,005]/store_00020002/DCIM.

Show more details:
Error writing file : -2 Bad parameters"

Followed by the usual cancel or skip options.

There is a Samba file sharing app in thr Google Play. You jist need to open it up, enable file sharing and go to \\android on your computer. From there its just drag and drop.

Nothing to see here....

The battery life of my phone went to hell. I have samsung galaxy s3 that can only live for 7 hours before dying. I noticed the gallery is taking 46% of the battery. I have no idea why it is even on. Force closing it does nothing. Anyone have any ideas what is going on here?

Google photo sync.

What did you install recently?
I installed draw something and every time I use it my battery heats up and discharges very fast. I have to force close it and clear the ram.

Mine does this periodically. Probably what Liquidmantis says. It lasts for awhile, and then stops. Sometimes rebooting has seemed to help for me.

My problem is Android's terrible implementation of Exchange server. Whenever I sync my calendar the Exchange server service battery consumption goes through the roof and doesn't stop until I delete the account.

Well NExus 10 and 4 are released tomorrow. I have been unable to locate what time they will flip the switch. Will it open at midnithg Eastern for me or do i need to wait for midnight PST making it 3AM for me.

sigh.
if anyone has any insight on this I'd love to know!!!

Don't know how reliable this is, but it's something:

Hmm, so breakfast time in Germany COULD be midnight eastern. hmmmm

Typical launch day crap. I can put the Nexus 10 in my cart but get an error when checking out. I guess it is good that it is popular enough to cause server problems. Hopefully that will mean good developer support.

Farley, keep trying! I got one after f5ing the error screen until it finally popped up with the processing page.

Nexus 10 32 G is Pending for me.

I finally got it ordered. I am quite pleased with the 2 day shipping! I expected to wait a week or more while it shipped from China.

Canadian shipping is 3-5 days

Oh well, i'll get it next week. I'll arrange to work from home so UPS doesn't screw it up.

Good thing I wasn't super busy at work when it went live - managed to pick up one 16GB Nexus 4.

Anyone interested in a well-kept unlocked OneX?

Restarting fixed it.

Seems the N7 is getting the 4.2 update across the globe.
For those that have rooted their tablet, you probably need to re-flash a pure copy of the OS.
XDA's N7 Toolkit helps with this.

I'm pretty sure I've stated this before, but I'm positively salivating for a Nexus 10.
I really love the Nexus 7 and it's the only thing that's keeping me from buying one right now and wait it out until a 3G/LTE model becomes available.

I'm hoping this will happen in the next 3-4 months.

While I wait for 4.2 to be merged into CM for my VZW GNex, been running the new swipey keyboard. It's damn nice. I've stuck with the stock keyboard because of its seamless stock voice integration but man have I missed Swype.

Probably the biggest thing I've had to unlearn is not looping through double letters or punctuation. It seems to handle those very well. I think if I trusted it more it would be nearly as fast as Swype but I always wait to check it.

I'm thinking about getting the Note 2. Has anyone ever used it or the original?

Hey, this swipe thing on the stock keyboard in 4.2 is really cool. My Nexus 7 typing woes are over. I never tried Swype.

Is the quick settings drop down new, or did I just miss it before? The one where you drag down from the clock.

Is the word recognition better on the swype keyboard now? I think it's available in the stock keyboard of the S3, but I've been using swiftkey. I used to use Swype back on my Incredible, and used to love it. Then the word accuracy kept getting worse with each update until I was correcting more than half of everything I typed, so I switched keyboards.

I have good luck with Swype, plus the correction is so easy. You can tap the problem word and Swype re-displays the suggested words. I haven't seen any other keyboard do that.

I wish Samsung/Bell would get off thier collective asses and get the 4.2 out for the Galaxy S3! I'm getting itchy!
I've looked at a few of the features with the new OS and it looks glorious. I can't wait to try that globe camera!

Pulling it now... fan of swype. The available apps didn't float my boat.

Quick settings are new in 4.2 as is multi user support and other fun stuff.

4.2 isn't even out for the Galaxy Nexus yet, straight from Google, so Samsung would be doing well to ship it on the S3 already.

My old man has the original. Aside from it being huge; the hardware is pretty solid, no complaints about performance, and they look great with the flip leather cover.

So, is this the right thread to ask about people's experiences in switching from iPhones to Android phones?

I've owned a 3G and a 4. My contract is up. I could go iPhone 5, but the longer screen isn't nearly as appealing as a screen bigger in both directions. TheWalt started talking about the Samsung Galaxy s3, and I went and looked at it in person - very sexy! Now I hear the s4 is coming in February, so I'd probably wait until then.

I'm kind of nervous about leaving the App Store behind. Not that I've bought and used tons of premium apps - I've bought a bunch, but the only things I use regularly right now are Instapaper and Downcast (podcast app). I've examined what I actually use my iPhone for, and it seems like any phone could do that. I'd like to play more games, but games I'd like to play either aren't on the phone or require stupid touch controls. And hey, there's an Android gamepad out that connects with your phone.

Thoughts?

Until Apple decides to enlarge the screen, properly, this will always be a problem.

The S3 is a fabulous phone. I used to have the iphone 3GS and i can tell you right now that I will not miss iTunes. I left behind about $50 worth of apps and more in songs (you can import your itunes songs so I didnt really lose them) but i was able to replace or find different apps that did what I want.

February seems pretty early for a successor to the S4. S3 is only a few months old.

Looks like text rendering has been improved slightly .
