ow, right in the feels. they say that halo 5 is gonna be pretty dark compared to the rest. ptsd master chief?

Spoiler:

I think MC might be somewhat past PTSD at this point. I think that's part of the whole "how human is he" theme in 4.

Absolutely LOVED the campaign. Flawless.

I finished it as well last night. You guys weren't kidding about that Star Fox section. I would have loved to have more time in that ship, especially when you hit the open area. It took me a few minutes to realize the ship wasn't actually on rails.

What special ability did you guys find yourself using most? I stuck with the drone purely as a distraction device.

I actually haven't played any of the multiplayer yet. I'm up for it though.

The drone was awesome for flanking attacks in single player and for taking out the weaker stuff while allowing me to focus on bigger stuff.

Montoya and I went through the second episode of spartan ops, i am really liking the idea behind it and its fun to do. If anyone is wanting to plaý Halo, send me an invite.

I do miss firefight because Spartan Ops is a nice addon but theres small things missing in the whole of Halo 4 like campaign scoring and theater.

I hope they add in those sooner than later.

I forgot that you can kill good-guy npc's by accident. Was in a campaign mission and was zoomed in with a sniper rifle and was scanning a target to line him up and I scanned left and accidentally shot an NPC standing next to me. I was like....Oh....sorry....and was like turning around to see if anyone noticed. I think another NPC said something interesting but I was in too much shock.

I finished the campaign on Sunday night and haven't stopped thinking about it since. I really enjoyed the way that they integrated so much of the back story and expanded universe stuff into the game. Its hard for me to judge whether I would be as in love with the story if I wasn't into the books etc. As a sci-fi nerd totally appreciated the story they were wrapping into the larger story. Since I read the books I have a different understanding of the Cortana character, and an appreciation for the significant contrast they created between who she was and what she is, and how she evolved over time.
[spoiler]I so enjoyed the relationship that they expaned on between Chief and Cortana. Johns humanity has been so well cultivated via his relationship with Cortana, and AI that was based off of his "Mother". Deep! Also did anyone else who has read the Gregg Bear books have thier mind blown by the revelations made by the Library to MasterChief?

You need to close that spoiler tag, son.

Spoiler:

I am trying to remember it all. I watched the backstory on YouTube since I didn't feel like downloading Halo Waypoint, but I recall having a lot of "how does that make sense?" thoughts going on. I preferred the origin being Forerunner are the ancestors of humans, humans come from Forerunner, and the Forerunner created the Flood and doomed themselves. Simple, clean, wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am. Now it just feels convoluted and nonsensical.

Welcome to modern sci-fi.

I want to do a legendary campaign co-op run. Anyone interested in getting a group together to play for maybe 2 hours a night, one night a week until we kick it out?

I'd be willing for a longer run on a Friday night or Saturday/Sunday, but I am lucky to have an hour and a half on weeknights. I'd much rather spend that time working on a game at my own pace.

But yeah, I'm all for a weekend night, be it for campaign or Spartan Ops.

That reminds me, anyone know the campaign challenges for this week?

I'm in if you're down to do it a little later in the day, since I live on the West Coast.

IF you guys need a 4th I would be in. I have already went through legendary but I can always lend a hand.

I picked this up last Friday and finished the campaign on normal by Saturday night. I really enjoyed it, the pacing was nice and tight and never got boring. Wouldn't mind getting together to do some multiplayer sometime, also would like to do those spartan ops.

Yes, by accident...hmm yes, definitely an accident. These things happen.

Just finished the Legendary campaign, and while it can be a grind it was still pretty fun. Now that I've learned the sandbox pretty well I feel like the Covenant are harder to fight than the Prometheans, or at the very the least Elites are nastier than Knights. Didn't expect that.

But yeah, I'd be down for some Legendary coop. Let's make it happen

Server-side shenanigans. They swapped out the formerly awesome Warrior helmet (well the whole set probably) for something markedly less awesome. Was the old version too nice for mere scrubs to be wearing? It looked like Isaac Clarke's (Dead Space) mask.

Dang it. I guess I need to buy this one.

Brave man. There are some parts during co-op legendary that I imagine would be a nightmare doing alone. Specifically the parts with the Banshees and their ridiculous accuracy (insta missile kills).

Also this is the first Halo where steeling the Banshee is usually not the best course of action. Enemies don't seem to miss very often. The grunts and their charged plasma pistols are soooo annoying.

Master chief has been asleep for like 3 years. The grunts have been training.

The Banshees also seem slower and less maneuverable now.

Heh.. It sure feels like it. They are no joke.

Rykin wrote:

That could be part of it. The levels that you get them aren't very open so its hard to tell.

Also, I just realize I typed "steeling" and was quoted twice. Just so there is no confusion, it clearly wasn't a spelling error and I was referring to the act of plating the banshee in steel.

I felt like all the vehicles were a little less maneuverable. After getting used to it, I liked it, but before I got the hang of the new vehicle tweaks I was probably the worst warthog driver. Just the worst.

The warthog is the only vehicle that didn't feel super different to me. The scorpion felt way different, and the banshees and ghost both feel slower and their weapons feel weaker (not such a bad thing in MP) and those are the only classic ones I drove.

The Mantis was freaking awesome and the Broadsword was pretty good despite being way more maneuverable in the cut scenes than it was in-game.

Kind of disappointed that there were no drivable Forerunner/Promethean vehicles.

Rykin wrote:

A Mantis-style Forerunner vehicle that builds itself around you like their regular weapons would be all kinds of awesome.

I hear what people are saying about the vehicle handling. For me the Warthog feels stiffer and slower but then again it was back in Halo 3 when I was a halfway decent wheelman for my team. Driving it now you'd think I never got behind the wheel before.

I'm still liking the Ghost and I have generally been a little menace with it on the slayer and big team matches I have played with it. Weaker cannons for sure but the speed/mobility still can't be beat!

I think Ragnarok is a map totally ruined by the Mantis. Until that mech gets a nerf it's just no fun trying to play a game where someone is charging around in it.

I think people are still to used to not being able to deal with vehicles without a "power weapon." three dmr's focusing can take a mantis down pretty fast and make him think more about running away then stomping people.

Same goes for banshees.

I think they need to figure out how to balance the weapon drops/vehicle spawns. Its frustrating when you are being spawn camped and have no good way to fight out with an uncoordinated team.

Just carry a plasma pistol, you'll be fine.

ccesarano wrote:

The Prometheans...I'm trying to figure out if there's a "trick" to them. The original Halo allowed for multiple ways to kill enemies, including several easy ways. Grunts were just a head shot. Jackals were shots to the hand and head. Elites required the shield to be destroyed. Needler, plasma charge, plasma grenade, etc. were all most suitable for them. Shotgun for the big Flood, assault rifle for the little guys, all about the human weapons.

Prometheans? Well you can headshot the little guys easy enough. I can't figure out anyone else. I think the Knights have a faceplate shield or something, but I'm just not sure.

I'm liking it, and the Needler is the best it has ever been, but this is certainly not Bungie's Halo. Reach will, for me, continue to be (second?) best campaign.

I found that if I hit them with an explosive or shotgun (something with knockback) they get all in a huff and pop open their faceplates to yell at me. Then it is headshot o'clock.

Actually Dave on today's Conference Call mostly confirmed something I discovered since then. Automatics (specifically the Suppressor) are the best weapon against them.

Which sucks when you're going against multiples. It's easy enough to snipe the little guys in the sky or on the ground, but those Knights...
