GWJ bugs, feature requests, and updates

Ah, thanks.

As it turns out if I'd read beyond the first few posts before I commented I'd have seen the discussion on this exact thing. I've got to start looking before I blurt out questions like that.

It's actually not a Coffee Grinder thing, it's a time thing. So regardless of how often you post, it will correct in a certain amount of time. My first post had quotes working because I waited a long time between creating my account and my first post.

Welcome!

Which the spammers have figured out, unfortunately, as we saw last week with one who waited 9 weeks before posting.

I propose hazing and initiation for linking/quoting privileges.

Ye olde Harsh Butt Fair.

Instead of disallowing BBCode during that time period, would it work better to require a CAPTCHA? We get that BBCode question a lot.

We could also consider putting some kind of explanation/notice in the page you get after creating a new account. We'll still get the question, but hopefully less often.

When we move to Drupal 7 we'll have much better tools at our disposal for handling this stuff, so we won't need to restrict access out of the gate. In short, the community will have easy ways to report spam and we'll have automated mechanisms in place for removing and blocking spam and abusive users.

Ideally, tagged members would vote to approve new posts from anyone who hasn't been tagged yet.

Oh, doogiemac, I notice you haven't been tagged yet....

Rhydius, plus, when you get promoted, all your posts will retroactively be fixed for you.

Except for the post on the previous page, where you have an extra quote tag which will break the post layout when it gets activated.

Quoting Malor:
"Rhydius, plus, when you get promoted, all your posts will retroactively be fixed for you. :)"

Nifty!

Quoting psoplayer:
"Except for the post on the previous page, where you have an extra quote tag which will break the post layout when it gets activated."

Yeah, well, it was just an example post anyway.

Haha, I know. The irony of being the sys admin who doesn't post all that frequently is that I can, at will, go and change anyone's tag whenever I want, including my own. :-p

Can you see the overall post count? I think it makes sense for tagged users to be able to see their whole post count, if only for sake of curiosity.

I'd like to see more stats overall, actually.

I'm disappointed you posted this and didn't change either your tag or Quintin's. It would have been so funny!

I think I mentioned this a couple of months ago, but I'm still getting the odd "Access Denied - you are not authorized to view this page" when attempting to add certain threads to my favorites, specifically the FTL thread. What gives?

Well, pff, of course you're not authorized. Certain threads can only be favorited by the Cabal.

Am I the only one that sees this style issue in Chrome?

I get it in firefox when you crush the page horizontally.

It's not actually a "style" issue, as in CSS. It's a layout issue - Chrome handles "margins" and "padding" differently than other browsers. So as the container adjusts, it saves extra room for those and can't fit the words, causing the words to wrap.

Welcome to my nightmare.

I admit that I only check up on GWJ infrequently, but was there a recent-ish style change, or is it just sending me to the mobile version of the site for some reason?

The site now has a responsive style that will use a mobile format if your browser window is narrower than 1000 pixels. There is a checkbox in your user settings that will disable the stylesheet for you if you dislike the behavior.

Ah, thanks

My timestamp is off by an hour now that daylight savings ended. Anyone else have this issue?

Yup. It says you posted @ 5:03 when it's 4:03 here.

Does Drupal have a "find all posts by user" feature, and if so, do we have it? I know there's the "Track" tab in the user page, but that just lists the threads in which the user has posted. I looked everywhere, and I'm not sure such a thing exists/is possible in Drupal.

I found a weird bug while trying to upload a new avatar.

Last night, I changed my avatar (A -> B). This morning I noticed the transparent edge was all raggedy and so decided to change it again (B -> C). When I tried to upload the new one, it didn't take. So I tried again, and this time it reverted back to the first avatar I had (A). It was showing up in threads and everything. So I tried the new one (C) again, and it changed to the second one (B).

No idea what is happening. The new avatar is a gif, 64x64, and 8KB in size.

EDIT: And now I see Avatar C. Maybe just some kind of weird caching error on my end then.

Control + F5 to refresh ignoring the cache.

It could be a forced, invisible caching proxy by your ISP. Many of them run these; they invisibly redirect web traffic to local caches, instead of to final websites. The primary purpose of this is to cut down on net traffic, although it would also be a great surveillance tool.
