NCAA Football 2012 Season Catch-All

Our kicker just improved from 3 of 8 on field goals this year to 4 of 9. Getting close to 50%!

I don't mean to hate. This is the karmic payback from having the best kicker in the NCAA last year.

And now your kicker failed to extend to a 2-score lead...

Karma just got you for suggesting he might get to 50%

If AJ could throw better that would have been a TD for the lead. Instead, fumble on the next play.

See? Johnny knows how to throw.

...and karma just got me for enjoying the missed FG.

Damn, what year is Johnny eligible for the draft? I think I want the Titans to do terrible that year.

Johnny is short. Gonna be interesting to see what NFL heads think.

Edit: Short for a QB.

Aw. AJ might have got saved by a split second. He almost got the right foot in before his left heel hit out.

Even if the Aggies lose this game I'm impressed. I honestly didn't think they were this good.

This is becoming a nailbiter!

It's gonna be tough for A&M to close this out on the road.

Gotta love the SEC Bubble. I mean, it couldn't possibly be that Bama is not the end all, be all.

Oh AJ.

I'm rooting for K State. Oregon has to be in the mix with them, too.

Lol guess you gotta hate the Aggies after this game.

So if Alabama goes on to lose are we looking at a Oregon vs K State championship?

For some reason I was thinking ND was ranked ahead of Oregon. I edited my post for clarity.

Lol Saben arguing about the last call looks like Karl Rove on election night.

Poo.

Congrats A&M on a spectacular game.

Whoever jumped offsides on that attempted punt is going to be running laps non-stop for the next year.

I still don't like A&M, but it's hard not to root for Johnny Football. This game may get me rooting for them for the rest of the year.

That's just what I had told my wife.

But if they lose to an SEC team it's just because the SEC is so tough. The only way to get out of the bubble is for them to lose out of conference.

But who do they play out of conference? From the other BCS conferences:

Alabama beat Michigan.
Missouri beat Arizona St.
Tenn. beat NC St.

Ole Miss lost to Texas.
Arkansas lost to Rutgers.
Auburn lost to Clemson.
Vandy lost to Northwestern.
Kentucky lost to Louisville.

Florida still has Florida St.
Georgia still has Ga Tech.
S. Car. still has Clemson.

So currently they're 3-5 against other BCS conferences? Does that make them better?

They might end up 6-5.

Should probably run the numbers for the other 5 conferences. But at first glance that doesn't look too impressive.

Well that de-escalated quickly. Good on the Aggies.

Edit to add that somewhere Steve Spurrier is smirking.

Well looks like #1 was taken care of...

Time to take care of #2. Go Bears! Shock the World!

As an interesting aside, 5 years ago a 5-0 Cal ranked #2 in the country after beating Oregon the prior week played what should have been a fairly easy home game against Oregon State. During that game #1 (at the time) LSU lost to someone, making Cal the expected #1 in the country if we could beat the Beavers. Of course, we ended up losing that game when QB Kevin Riley inexplicably scrambled on 3rd and goal with no timeouts left rather than throwing it out the back of the end zone to setup a game tying field goal and time expired. Cal only won 1 more game that season, and then won the Armed Forces Bowl (yay?). Cal has never recovered as a program since that season, and that loss against Oregon State really the turning point in Tedford's career at Cal.

So what does all this mean? This means #2 Oregon is going to come to Cal, as the "assumed" #1, and LOSE and the program will unravel just like Cal's did that season...

yeah.. that's right.

What was that no-nothing college football fan bullsh*t I heard about the Big 12 upgrading through A&M's departure? Huh?

When I moved to Austin 5 years ago, I naturally assumed that I'd be a Longhorns fan. After a few years, though, I found that the Aggies felt more like kindred spirits. What with Alabama's and TAMU's intertwined histories (e.g. Bryant, Stallings... Franchione), I was definitely a strong supporter of their bid to move to the SEC and celebrated win they joined the family.

After last season, I figured this would be a restocking year, though I admit I was drinking the Kool-Aid after our early success this year... But I've been keeping up with Johnny Football (around these parts, how could you not?), and after last week's game against LSU, I was definitely worried about today's matchup. Manziel is soooo much better than Mettenberger and the Aggies as a whole have been improving as the season went on.

Assuming we can recover, I can console myself with an SEC championship and, hopefully, a Sugar Bowl victory. It won't be a crystal ball, obviously, but it's more in line with my pre-season expectations and next year we'll be back on schedule for our biannual championship.

Congrats to the Aggies. You can't imagine how much I hope you get matched up against (and beat, of course) the Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl (or whichever one makes that happen).

Roll Tide the rest of the way, Grump!

And yeah, it would be Cotton, but at this point, and I can't believe I'm saying this, that bowl would be a disappointment.

Pulling for the rest of the undefeateds to lose, so the Ags don't cost the SEC a chance at 7 in a row.

Congrats A&M fans. Sorry you Alabama fans. Boy what a fun game to watch. Both teams played hard.

ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?

I lost my voice from yelling at the TV.

REALLY need the Badgers to take down Oregon now!
