2012 US Presidential Race Catch All

And I believe that in California, for the first time in generations, one party has a supermajority in both sides of the State House. That's a foreshadowing of the demographic change that is coming in other parts of the country.

The paranoid right does have one thing correct; the man is a gifted orator. Amazing.

Nah, their story was that he was nothing without a teleprompter. That drum was beaten for the whole election. He *can't* be a good orator, because he is a lying incompetent who has duped us all.

2016 you say....

*whistles*

That's the cynical right. The paranoid right thinks he's the antichrist:

He has been seen by the non-religious as a 'Secular Messiah', and he has been compared to Jesus more and more frequently. Obama is half black and half white, making him appeal to both races. He's half Muslim and half Christian, making him appeal to both religions. He is now seen as the most popular person on earth. He is noted for his gifted oratory, just as it was prophesized the Antichrist would be.

Not gonna link to where I found that unless I am pressed.

Hmm.

Oi, Romney's a well gifted orator too, innit?

The best speech Romney has given all year was his concession speech. He actually sounded like a decent, rational human being, talking about working together. And he only used one buzzword of job creators, but it wasn't in relation to taxes or any BS, just hoping that people get back to work.

Romney's speech reminded me of hearing Bob Dole talk after he lost in 1996. In that election, Dole was wooden, stilted, and just sounded old. Afterwards? He'd show up on talk shows and he was incredibly personable, likeable, and absolutely just hilarious.

And don't forget about the viagra commercials.

Agreed!

I have this feeling in my gut that Hillary Clinton would be a much further right of center President than Obama. The GOP would have to put a truly monstrous candidate opposite her (Cain, Perry, Bachmann, Santorum) for her to get my vote.

Yeah, I gotta +1 this. Perhaps if they had let him be himself...? It's like Old Man Crankypants (John McCain) in reverse.

Hillary is a brilliant woman.

I question her temperament and she is quite a bit too hawkish for me. (especially on Iran)

I'd say that whomever uses Obama's community organization/election team is going to have a big leg up in 2016. It is one thing to motivate people and make them feel good about themselves. It is another to get them to show up to vote.

Andrew Cuomo...mark it down. Everything he's done in NYS screams of a guy preparing for a Presidential run.

Not to mention his family history, with his father's legacy as a candidate. A Cuomo v. Christie match would be pretty damn epic, actually

Except that....

The list of fools who have brought this disaster upon us certainly also will include New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, the gelatinous clown who (a) hogged up a prime time spot at the Republican convention to sing his own praises; (b) embraced Obama as the hero of Hurricane Sandy; and (c) then refused to appear at campaign events in support of Romney's presidential campaign. Good luck with the remainder of your political future, governor. It is unlikely Republicans shall soon forget your perfidious betrayal.

Yeah, and they said that Repubs would never forgive Romney for having pretended to be a "Massacusetts moderate."

Three or four years from now, Christie's actions during Sandy will be an easily-deflected talking point during the Repub primaries. If he wants to run.

Seems to me that any sins a Republican hopeful commits are washed away if the party and party faithful consider him electable. Which, I'd imagine, is SOP regardless of party, actually.

Have never been a fan of Cuomo since he essentially gave the MTA a pass for keeping two sets of books.

Gingrich: Serial adulterer who resigned after being caught in serious ethics violations, and paid $300,000 in fines/investigation costs.

Romney: Created Obamacare as a governor, was a well-known moderate, and, up to a few weeks before the election, was a member of a cult according to evangelicals.

Bachmann: Absolutely clinically insane. Not really a serious candidate, just want to point that out again.

This Thomas Friedman article seems like it was written from inside my head: http://t.co/y2yMcdOk

Also, a quote for context: http://t.co/9k8BalwF

Yes, exactly. They're hating on Christie now because the Romney loss is fresh and stinging. By the time the Republican primaries roll around, it'll be a much more distant memory, and he could just point out that in a time of crisis it's important for both parties to work together, which is hard to really fault him on.

Time ran this article on who they think might be in the running, which is interesting: http://lightbox.time.com/2012/11/07/...

Of course some of these people would be very much long shots, but it's fun to speculate.

The primaries might be tough for Christie but someday, someone's gotta realize that what Christie did -- put aside partisan bickering to save his goddamn state -- was heroic.

I don't agree with Christie on many things, but cmon. This was a strong point in his career.

Dig back into some of the threads covering the 2008 Democratic primary. I said that Hillary shouldn't run for president for the same reasons back then: we live in a big country with lots of talent and it's insane to limit our choices to a handful of families.

In job creator news, it looks like several of them have decided that they'll only create jobs if their boy got the White House.

The CEO of Murray Energy, the one who required his coal miners to be an unpaid backdrop for a Romney campaign event, issued this prayer today before firing 150 people:

Dear Lord:

The American people have made their choice. They have decided that America must change its course, away from the principals of our Founders. And, away from the idea of individual freedom and individual responsibility. Away from capitalism, economic responsibility, and personal acceptance.

We are a Country in favor of redistribution, national weakness and reduced standard of living and lower and lower levels of personal freedom.

My regret, Lord, is that our young people, including those in my own family, never will know what America was like or might have been. They will pay the price in their reduced standard of living and, most especially, reduced freedom.

The takers outvoted the producers. In response to this, I have turned to my Bible and in II Peter, Chapter 1, verses 4-9 it says, “To faith we are to add goodness; to goodness, knowledge; to knowledge, self control; to self control, perseverance; to perseverance, godliness; to godliness, kindness; to brotherly kindness, love.”

Lord, please forgive me and anyone with me in Murray Energy Corp. for the decisions that we are now forced to make to preserve the very existence of any of the enterprises that you have helped us build. We ask for your guidance in this drastic time with the drastic decisions that will be made to have any hope of our survival as an American business enterprise.

Amen.

As a side note, it's sad/funny that he blathers on about personal and economic responsibility when his company has had seven large coal slurry spills that have fouled surrounding rivers and have been forced to paid millions in fines to the EPA.

2016: Hillary vs. Jeb
2020: Hillary (incumbent) vs. Jeb 2
2024: Jeb vs Michelle Obama
2028: Jeb (incumbent) vs. Michelle Obama 2
2032: Michelle Obama (incumbent) vs. Elizabeth Cheney
2036: Elizabeth Cheney vs. Chelsea Clinton
2040: Chelsea Clinton (incumbent) vs. ....

We can get another 30 years out of this. Why wouldn't you want that?

What, no Bristol Palin?

How about one Taggart Romney vs. Sasha Obama?

Good point. Feel free to revise that.
