NCAA Football 2012 Season Catch-All

Yeah I miss seeing the team live. Oregon State is a team that loves to sneak up on people, and proudly refer to the team as giant killers. My prediction is that the civil war game this year will be intense, like 2009.

Yup; nice poll. Still, there is something to the eyeball test. ND could not beat Alabama (or Oregon) in my estimation. I think it'd be a lot closer with K-State. Still, if they all stay undefeated, it'd be nice to find out.

Thankfully we're moving closer to something like that in a few years.

I have to say, if ND stays undefeated through the end of the year and is not in the Championship game, I'm not sure I'll find myself too upset. Going from unranked to where they are today is well beyond my expectations from the beginning of the season.

Yeah blind resumes are usually fun. I ended up picking Oregon and K-State.

I picked ND and I don't remember who else. Not Alabama, though.

That said, I agree with firesloth about the eyeball test - and ND really, really hurt themselves in my eyes with last week's game.

So it looks like it's going to be Oregon and K State after Texas A&M knocks Alabama out of the running this weekend!

Yes. Please! I'm going to be a huge Johnny Football fan this weekend.

Their D-line and LBs are good enough to be considered in the top 2 or 3 in the country. Secondary is probably good enough to get 'em by. The O-line and QB play has to be better. ND's redzone offense has to get better. ND can't give up 3 TOs (mostly unforced) like that and expect to win at USC.

The INT thrown by Rees early in the second half was because he freaked out at a blitzer, so that was forced. The other two not really. Especially the fumble in OT, which was caused by our runner hitting his own guy as he dove. He probably could have just walked in...

I had Notre Dame and K-State.

And I am a Johnny Football fan this weekend, too!

And Alabama looks a little less awesome after last week. While they came back and won, LSU dominated them statistically. The eyeball test makes me think K-State just might brutalize them.

There's a lot about that Bama-LSU game that gives me hope. Let's see how many ways I can drink the kool-aid:

1) LSU showed Bama is beatable. Obviously, this is the most important thing. LSU didn't finish, but they should have won, imho.

2) LSU nearly won in spite of themselves - primarily, in spite of Les Miles' insane play calling. There are tons of Tigers in Houston, and I don't know one Les Miles fan. To me, this means that not only is Bama beatable, but you don't even have to be perfect to do it.

3) LSU's QB had the best game of his career. He was dog poop on a stick at Texas A&M earlier this year. This gives me some hope that Bama is not that great against the pass - which makes sense in the SEC, which isn't known for dynamic offenses. Which brings us to:

4) Bama hasn't seem anything like Texas A&M. They know it, Saban said it, let's hope that's an edge for the Aggies.

5) This weekend has all the makings of a let-down game. They just played a grueling game on the road where only a last-minute miracle drive kept them undefeated. Now they get to go home and play the new kid on the block that got no respect pre-season. Some people have come around to Texas A&M's legitimacy, some haven't. Either way, this is not a game they circled on their calendar at the beginning of the year.

That's probably enough for now, and a TL;DR already. Gig 'Em, Aggies, and may the legend of Johnny Football become an even taller tale this weekend!

Same here. This weekend should be interesting.

Don't worry, the SEC will make sure we never find out.

Playoffs in 2014.

As a nice follow up to a couple weeks ago when USC was breaking rules changing jerseys, now they were caught deflating footballs in their game against Oregon this weekend.

USC fired a student manager for deflating five game balls below regulation levels for the USC-Oregon game last Saturday, the school announced late Wednesday.

...

Three balls were found to be in violation of NCAA regulations before the game began, and two more were discovered at halftime, meaning some first-half plays featured slightly deflated footballs.

Under-inflated footballs typically travel at a slower speed than fully inflated balls and are thought to be easier to catch and throw.

And they're also saying that it was a "lone gunman" and the manager acted without anyone's knowledge. Hard to swallow when Lane Kiffin is clearly breaking the rules just last month.

I can't wait to watch 4 SEC teams play for the BCS championship.

You know... Were it an 8-team playoff, the current top 8 could fulfill your wish...

Well, we almost crapped ourselves tonight. Jimbo better figure something out, like tonight.

LSU almost beat Bama because they have comparable depth. There isn't much fall off between the ones/twos on both lines and at RB. The near loss should light a fire under Bama and they will be ready. What Saban coach team isn't ready? Keep Manziel off the field by pounding the ball with Lacy and Yeldon, then wait for Texas A&M defense to get tired. Win the time of possession and prevent big plays and Alabama should win. They shut down Denard Robinson this year, and I think they'll be able to at least slow down Manziel.

I'll add that Bryant-Denny stadium is a very intimidating place to play/visit. The entire atmosphere is about intimidating the opposing team and they know how to manage the crowd. It's a very difficult place to win. Good luck Aggies, you're going to need it.

Upside for Texas A&M, 9-3 for their first season in the SEC. Shouldn't have any trouble with Sam Houston State or Missouri. Things should only get better with a great coach in place and a fairly young team. Congrats!

Kansas is so close. Down 27-24 versus Tech, and ramming the ball down their throat.

Well. Perfect Louisville season is over. Walked into Senior Day at Syracuse and fumbled a punt return in the first quarter with a tie game and just handed all the momentum away. Didn't get another 3-and-out on them until the 4th quarter. Defense never recovered. I hope we get a new special teams coach next year. They have been terrible all year.

98th in kickoff return avg, and 105th in punt return. Absolutely useless.

114th in punt avg. 91st in net avg.

Just awful. And our FG unit got another extra point blocked. That should never happen once, and especially after it happens once, it should never happen again during that season.

On the bright side, we can still win the conference by beating Rutgers and make a BCS Bowl, probably the Orange. Going 12-1 would be a great setup for next year, with Teddy as a junior, to try this whole undefeated thing again.

Kansas had to settle for a FG with 45 secinds left. It looks like they just let Tech get close enough for a FG with six seconds left.

Praying for a wind blown miss!

*edit* Review awaiting to see if the QB's knee touched the turf on a low snap, adding a ton of yards to the FG try.

Johnny Football and the Fighting' Texas Aggies will be on CBS in 18 minutes!

Beat the hell outta 'Bama!

After the drama and review, Tech picks up some more yards, but misses a 41 yard FG. OT.

Kansas has a shot of ending their 18 game conference losing streak, as well as beating a ranked team on the road.

Moral victory accomplished. I'm hoping for the next step here. Rock Chalk Jayhawks!

Wow, see Louisville loses to Syracuse. Sorry to hear that, Stele. Hope they recover to finish out the season strongly.

Oh, how about this stats? Kansas has 372 yards rushing today. And this is a team that has no passing game to keep a defense honest.

TD Kansas in OT! Time to hold Tech!

It's too early to blame it on Halo 4.

But this team notoriously blew a game to Pittsburgh last year the week COD:MW3 came out because most of the team was too busy playing on their 360s all week instead of doing game prep. Losing that game is what caused us to be in a 3-way-tie for the conference championship and a BCS berth last year.

I would hope that they learned their f*cking lessons after that. But it's possible they didn't.

I'd rather blame this loss on a really motivated Syracuse team on Senior Day, with a senior QB, and who averaged giving up 2 turnovers per game all season to put them and their current mediocre record, but instead forced 2 turnovers and didn't give up any today.

Holy crap. UL-Lafayette tied with Florida. They line up to punt with 0:13 on the clock. Punt is partially blocked, picked up, taken back for a Florida TD with 0:02 on the clock.

Guess it proves SEC teams really are the best. [/snark]

Most ridiculous end to a football game I've ever seen in Florida. Losing to UL-Lafayette 20-13.

An illegal receiver downfield flag was picked up on Florida's TD to tie with under 2 minutes.

ULL doesn't get a first down, and has to punt with about 10 seconds left. Florida blocks it, picks it up, and runs it in for a TD with 2 seconds left to take the lead.

Filthy skimmer!
