With the recent announcement of another DCS product - Combined Arms, I decided we should probably have just one catch-all thread for the various sims: Black Shark, A-10, Mustang etc. since much of the information gets posted in the sim specific threads.

Digital Combat Simulator

Previous threads:

DCS A-10
DCS Black Shark 1/2
DCS P-51 Mustang

Where Goodjers can go for MP shooty-shooty.

In the meantime here is the press announcement of Combined Arms.

In the meantime - check this.

DCS: Combined Arms

Press Release

Pre-Purchase “DCS: Combined Arms” in June 2012

DUXFORD, UK, May 31st 2012 – The Fighter Collection and Eagle Dynamics will offer DCS: Combined Arms as a digital download pre-purchase for $29.99 in June 2012. Pre-purchase also provides access to pre-release Beta versions of the title.

DCS: Combined Arms gives the user control of ground forces during the battle. Use the strategic map to move ground forces, set artillery fire missions, and control the ground battle. Assume the role of a Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) and designate targets for close air support aircraft, or directly control an armor vehicles or air defense weapons and engage enemy forces.

Play DCS: Combined Arms as a real time strategy game, a first person armor warfare simulation, or direct the ground battle from the cockpit of a DCS aircraft like the A-10C Warthog, Ka-50 Black Shark, or P-51D Mustang.

DCS: Combined Arms supports both single player and multiplayer gameplay. When in multiplayer, different players can take on different roles such as artillery commanders, tank commanders, pilots, JTACS, etc. DCS: Combined Arms allows you full control of the battle. All roles can be changed dynamically during the battle.

Features of the DCS: Combined Arms:

• Move ground forces and direct their fire during a mission.
• Be the Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) and direct close air support.
• Jump into the seat of many armor and air defense units to engage enemy air and ground forces.
• Play in both single player and multiplayer games.
• Both small and large scale battle missions included.
• Part of DCS World

Great news!

ED has opened it's arms to 3rd party developers and some are stepping up to the plate to develop for DCS World.
Here is a post from 3rd party Dev - Iris

Okay, we've had the green light from TFC to let you all know the products we have planned from the IRIS team over the next 3 year development cycle.
(I hope they won't take that long to make! lol)

Contracts have been signed for the following products;

IRIS F-15E Strike Eagle for DCS World
IRIS F-22 Raptor for DCS World
IRIS F-14D Tomcat for DCS World

I will say that the F-15E is being developed with the intention of being submitted to ED as a DCS branded product (ie. DCS: F-15E Strike Eagle) and of course will be one of the longest to develop.

The F-22 will be looking at making use of the AFM for thrust vectoring and we'll be discussing this further with ED.

The F-14D is likely to be the first completed aircraft from the stable if all goes well.

We will be looking at the best way to develop these products from a business perspective over the coming weekend after a team meeting.

There MAY be another project being added to the list as a fourth product was dropped from the list at the last moment. We'll let you know when we know..

Anyway, have fun... it's nearly 1am here and I need to get away from this PC.. I'll see you all tomorrow..

Ciao folks..

Spanky.

SO I finally downloaded and installed DCS World and the A-10 module, but this one is getting shelved since I can't import my X52 Pro settings, as there are new keyboard assignments.

I missed this thread before. Cool stuff! I guess I'd better replace the SSD in my flight sim box.

I just wanted to combine the many threads we have going.. hopefully everyone else will jump on board. I think it will keep Certis happy as well

So, are the other products for this game plugin modules? Or would I run the existing A-10C program, and connect to a server running this game?

Right now it's in Beta, so you can download the DCS World from http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.co....

You can then download the A-10 plugin from http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.co...

You can keep your original A-10 install, and run it on it's own.

Black Shark 2 has not been patched into World as of yet.

When it's done, you will be able to launch any of the modules which you own from one executable/interface.

Here is the explanation from the forums:

DCS World is a single, unified core for all DCS products to operate within. Rather than separate installations for each DCS products, the single DCS world interface allows the user to access all of their DCS products in a common user interface. DCS world also includes a DCS News service and will allow users to purchase DCS titles through the interface at a later point.

DCS World will be updated as DCS evolves with changes to the rendering system, AI units, AI logics, effects, etc. All aspect of the simulation inside the cockpits and new maps will be paid-for content.

The current DCS World is still in beta and will evolve over time with new features.

The initial DCS World comes with a free flyable aircraft, the Su-25T (exported from Flaming Cliffs 2).

So, if I already have DCS-10C, then after getting DCS World, I need the plugin to connect the two, is that how it works? So the P51 plugin on that first page you linked won't work without the P51 sim?

OMFG!

I used to be a total sim junky before I abandoned them for FPS and MMO's. This might just push me back into the immense time and brain sink of milsims.

Time to refresh that simhq bookmark!

This is pretty huge because 3rd party developers often do amazing work.

Yeah, that's right. But treat the A-10 plugin for World as separate from your existing A-10 install. They really are 2 separate entities.

So the A-10 plugin is a complete, standalone game? No need to also have DCS-10C installed? Or do I need to install that to prove I'm licensed?

Man, I wish I had the time and finances to go for some proper simming. I'd be all over that P-51 sim like white on rice.

Just a quick update:

Combined Arms is available for pre-purchase which I assume means you can get in the beta. It's 29.99.

Also the 1.2 DCS World is out, along with the 1.2 versions of A-10 and [b]BS2, and yes, you can use the upgrade version of [b]BS2.

Flaming Cliffs 3 addon has been announced.

I'm quite excited, as I love flying the F-15.

Announcing Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 3

DUXFORD, UK, September 1st, 2012 – The Fighter Collection and Eagle Dynamics will release Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 3 for Windows PC in September 2012.

Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 3 (FC3) is the next evolution of the Flaming Cliffs series. FC3 features the F-15C, A-10A, Su-27, Su-33, MiG-29A, MiG-29S, Su-25T, and Su-25. FC3 aircraft provide an easy learning curve for new players and focuses on a broad range of aircraft rather than a detailed single aircraft. FC3 adds a number of new features and improvements to previous versions of the Flaming Cliffs series. FC3 is a module of DCS: World, which makes it compatible with all other DCS: World titles like A-10C, Black Shark 2, P-51D, and Combined Arms.

FC3 will be priced at $39.99.

Key Features of Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 3 include:
A DCS World module that is compatible with DCS titles.
New 6 degrees of freedom (6DOF) cockpit and model for the F-15C.
New F-15C campaign and single missions.
Improved takeoff and landing flight dynamics.
New, advanced flight dynamics for air-to-air missiles.
Updated and improved HUDs and other cockpit systems.
Resource Manager that adds logistics control to missions.
Expanded theatre of operations map into eastern Georgia.
Countless other improvements in the areas of the mission editor, special effects, new models, improved terrain detail and AI.

Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 3 will require an installation of Lock On: Modern Air Combat or a previous version Flaming Cliffs.

Very cool. I finally got an SSD to resurrect my workstation, of course now I've lost what little headway I had made in learning to fly the A-10. Is the DCS "fixed-wing American jet" still a mystery?

Yeah, they haven't said anything.. but all sources point to F-18.

Version 1.2.1 is out for all of the modules.

Finally adds an autoupdater so no more of the uninstall/install dance.

They are adding some really great stuff to this sim, it's coming into it's own nicely.

Flying CLiffs 3 should be out soon!

I just got everything updated to 1.2.1. Will probably be trying it out tonight. SimHQ points to some disturbing FPS issues but hopefully they'll not be too bad.

The update they released today has borked a lot of things. I'd wait.

So after about an hour of tinkering I think I got it working. My frame rate is still pretty solid but I can definitely tell it isn't running as well as it was pre-patch. I really like the new impact graphics for the 30mm, I've been practicing gun runs on the instant action.

Nice, official promo.

More 3rd party goodness.

Announcing DCS: UH-1H Huey

DUXFORD, UK, October 7th, 2012 - The Fighter Collection and Belsimtek are proud to announce the upcoming release of DCS: UH-1H Huey - the next aircraft in the Digital Combat Simulator (DCS) series of PC combat simulations. The Huey is one of the most iconic and well-known helicopters in the world. Having seen extensive service as a transport and armed combat support helicopter during the Vietnam War, the Huey continues to serve in both military and civilian roles in many countries around the globe today.

DCS: UH-1H Huey will feature the same exacting level of modelling detail as the existing Ka-50 Black Shark, A-10C Warthog and P-51D Mustang DCS aircraft and it will be online compatible with them. Working in close partnership with U.S. based UH-1 operators and experts, The Fighter Collection and Belsimtek have leveraged their unique skills and experience to provide the most dynamic and true to life helicopter experience available on the PC.

The UH-1H will be the first helicopter of conventional design featured in the DCS series and further demonstrates the broad scope of the DCS simulation environment and its ability to introduce a wide variety of aircraft from all eras into a common simulation platform. The UH-1H will also be the first DCS aircraft to offer multiple player positions, including pilot, co-pilot, and door gunner. Like previous DCS products, the UH-1H will include a variety of difficulty options to cater to users with different levels of flight simulation experience, including “Simulation” and “Game” playing modes.

DCS: UH-1H Huey will be available for pre-purchase later this year for $39.99.

For more information, please visit: www.digitalcombatsimulator.com.

Key Features of DCS: UH-1H Huey include:
Unmatched flight physics providing the most realistic and dynamic helicopter experience on the PC.
Multiple player positions, including pilot, co-pilot, and door gunner.
Accurate and highly detailed 3D cockpit featuring six-degrees-of-freedom technology.
Interactive cockpit controls that allow players to operate systems using the mouse.
Accurate UH-1H external 3D model, liveries, and weapons.
Detailed modelling of the UH-1H instruments, weapons, engine, radios, fuel, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
Developed in close cooperation with real UH-1 operators.
Missions that include transport and combat support operations.
Training that includes interactive and video lessons.
Multiplayer coop mode for crew members of the same helicopter under development for a later update.

Flying co-op in the same chopper sounds really great!

I haven't had a chance to read the article yet, but SimHQ just put up their preview on FC3.
