Forza Horizon Catch-All

Man, I've been trying to beat the next to last race where the girl tells you about the race and if you win, you keep the car. This is against some biplane and I'm racing with some lime green Porsche I think. Doesn't matter how many times or how nearly perfect a run I make, that plane sneaks in with about 1/4 a second to go. I even turned difficulty down to easy just to get past it! Same thing.

Anyone win this thing? Any secrets or shortcuts I am missing?

The November DLC is apparently available:

The new cars include:
2012 Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Spyder Performante
2012 Shelby 1000
2010 BMW M3 GTS
1965 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C
1994 Nissan 240SX SE
2012 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon

Not one shot of the Jeep? It's the only car I'm interested in this pack, to take it off-roading. Thankfully it's the free sample car.

Individually the cars are 240 MSP each. That seems a bit extravagant. In FM4 they're usually 160, with the occasional car priced at 240. I wonder if they were selling a lot of individual cars in FM4, and figuring if that continues in FH, they'll try to squeeze a bit more cash out of the customers—or conversely, if a customer is looking at 240 for one car, they might be more willing to paying the little extra to get all six.

I wonder how far MS/T10 will push it with FM5, if the market doesn't decide that FH has pushed it far enough.

(FWIW, I haven't had any issue with the in-game real-money-spending prompting. Discount signs were easy to rack up, and the PR stunts weren't onerous—and on top of that, the game throws credits at the player more liberally than FM4 does: between online lottery bonuses, Ali's (repeatable) street races, infinite impromptu street races, and the regular game structure, I've got a couple million more credits than I know what to do with—and am only a third of the way through the events and already bought a Veyron—and haven't even considered spending my 3 Tokens from the LCE.)

The *Bondurant* car pack? Where the hell'd they come up with that?

According to Google it's a high performance driving school in Arizona. Likely just a sponsorship.

Yea, figures. Just kinda weird to see a family name on something like this, even if there's no relation.

And, they use Corvettes at the school, which are oddly not included in the pack.

I'm in the same camp as Gravey. Metric sh*tload of money in the bank, I've only 'bought' one car so far and that was at the insistence of my kids. All the rest have been won in events, found in sheds, or won online in the raffles.

Is the season pass really worth it?

Wut? Free cars? Even nicer.

I have no interest in car packs. Heck, the game has so many cars, what is another 5-6? Now a track pack, that would get me interested. Give me a new area to drive it, you have a guaranteed sale for sure.

Yup, each car pack in previous Forzas had one car as a free sample, and Forizon is continuing that. It's never the flashiest car, obv, but sometimes it's the only car I actually wanted.

As for the Season Pass, unless you're a completionist car nut and anticipate wanting/needing access to every car, then no it's not worth it. You'd have to have already committed to buying the first six car packs in full, sight unseen, and the Rally Expansion. Sure you get five exclusive bonus cars, but again, you'd have to be a nut. I mean car nut.

Not to say it's not a good deal to someone out there—I totalled up my FM4 DLC spending the other day, and it was $62. But because I hadn't committed to that game's Season Pass, I was able to be selective about what I bought, and even got two packs and the Porsche expansion in sales.

I went pack crazy in Forza 3 and came away feeling the same way. I realised I was spending money, just to receive a 'free' community skin that VIPs for that game were being sent out, that kind of thing.

I'm happy where I am I think. I have Dirt 3 for me rallies, and though I would love a return to a more realistic Colin McRae flavored off road experience, I'm learning to live without it.

I'm just patiently waiting for the 2010 Ferrari 458 Italia to arrive as DLC.

It was a Horizon pre-order gift at GameStop, and if memory serves correct, all pre-order cars show up as DLC at some point down the road.

The 458 is the very first car you drove in Forza 4 (and the demo), and when I gave it a spin for the first time I fell head over heels in love with the speed and handling.

Come on Playground, give us the goods!

You know the convertible 458 is on the disc, right? Or do you absolutely have to have the hardtop?

I should have gotten that 458 and the Golf R from Best Buy, but of course they didn't have the codes on release day, and even though they took my phone number, of course I haven't yet received a call saying they're in. Well that's Best Buy.

Aaron, if I ever get my pre-order codes, I'll PM you the 458.

Thanks, Gravey. That's really kind of you.

I know there's a 458 rag-top on the disc, but I've got this mental hang up, thinking it's ugly as sin (yet the hard-top is a thing of beauty in my eye). What makes it doubly strange is that I play the game in cockpit-camera mode exclusively. :p

I know exactly what you mean: I don't like convertibles, period, but I mainly play cockpit-cam anyway, so why should it bother me? It just does. "Sweet, Reventon —aww, Roadster? Phooey."

Convertibles are only acceptable in Crazy Taxi or OutRun. If one of Forizon's race types was shuttling festival-goers from point-to-point, or if What's-Her-Face was in the passenger seat all the time, then I'd always go convertible.

Anybody played with the SmartGlass integration yet?

I gave it a go this afternoon...

IMAGE(http://members.iinet.net.au/~monkey.boy/GWJ/ForizonGPS.jpg)

It turned the whole iPad into a real time GPS with all the in game markers etc. it was a bit laggy at times when I was pinch zooming in and out, but I imagine that coud have been either my setup or early niggles.

I was pleasantly surprised that a primarily Windows initiative didn't get all the awesome sucked out of it when it was ported to a Mac derived/aligned Platform.

Also, I no longer feel the need for a WiiU

Yeah, I love the idea but I was not at all impressed by the implementation (I was using it on an iPhone 5). Here's hoping they keep working on it rather than shrugging and leaving it as it is (see: the Kinect).

Cool.

I didn't realize the app was out for iDevices.

So how was the process of synching your console and iPad?

I’ve only got an iPhone 4, but I’ll give it a spin for novelties’ sake.

Yup, I wrote about my surprise experience in the SmartGlass thread. To save you all a click:

I wrote:

So I forgot I had left the app running when I started playing Forza Horizon. I was driving around, then looked down at my iPhone—and there was the map! And my route! And the marker for my car moving in real-time! I could scroll around, filter icons, set new routes that instantly update in the game!

Holy crap!

Of course I have to stop driving to manipulate the app (though in a wonderful Red Asphalt moment, I tried driving and using the phone at the same time, then looked up in time to see I had drifted across the centre line and had a head-on collision at 100+ MPH), so I might as well just pause and use the in-game map. I guess my wife could steal my phone and start messing up my routes.

And I wrote:

something I forgot to mention in terms of practicality: while playing Forizon, the app also crashed about 75% of the time (on an iPhone 4, haven't tried on the 5 or iPad 3 yet). Trying to load the map: crash. Tap event: crash. See if I can pinch to zoom: crash (never did find out). Try to restart app: crash. . . .

So again, I give it a lot of credit for being a neat idea, but lacking in the usability department for at least two good reasons.

You just sign-in on the app and it logs into the xbox that has the same account logged on. It gives you a smart glass connected message on the TV.

Finally got the game this week, and I'm really loving it. The only thing I am really missing is being able to have a custom playlist. I'm not a fan of the soundtrack, and it seems like a silly omission to not let us build our own racing playlist.

So if anyone is looking for someone else to race with, feel free to friend me up. The game is definitely scratching that PGR 2 itch for me.

Jayhawker wrote:

Yeah, PGR's disappearance definitely left a void for me, and this is the first game that's gotten that kind of got that same feel to it.

The whole festival tone of this game has made keeping the soundtrack turned on a pleasure.

For more serious racers, the first thing I do is click it off. For most other arcade style ones, I take a pass from lack of interest in the set list.

However, in this case I think the DJ who curated this collection has done a fantastic job. I could give a flip about the rock station, but Bass Arena and Pulse (in particular) is god darn incredible.

It's rare that I want to listen to liscenced music outside of a game, but Horizon has sold me on a lot of new artists.

Electric Guest – Awake
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t40Fw...

Tesla Boy – Spirit of the Night
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybyHY...

Miike Snow – Paddling Out
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzxYU...

Santigold – Disparate Youth
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIMMZ...

Two Door Cinema Club – Something Good Can Work (Twelves Remix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vB7nm...

And the Rock station is the only one I can actually listen to. I pretty much hate electronica, the festival stuff could DIAF and I could not get the DJ turned off quick enough. If the DJs could not be turned off, I would never listen to the music in the game.

But regardless of the station, you start hearing repeats way too soon. I would rather swap out playlists. I loved my playlists in PGR 2.

With the $15 deal at the MS Store today and my $25 credit from buying Halo 4, I've got this game on the way. Should be fun to start working leaderboards again

Same here. Should be here this week. Looking forward to it. I picked it up over NFS:MW even though I love the Criterion racing games as it seems that Forza has picked up some of that play style. Also, Gamelogical Society gave it a wonderful review.

Game showed up last night (Microsoft $15 deal).
I'm digging it, but I almost wished that the damage model was closer to Burnout Paradise... There seems to be very little incentive to care about avoiding rails or traffic. I handed the GF the iPad and after about a minute of watching me she started setting waypoints to explore the world and find discount targets.

Edit: Also, the terrain is a little bit weird at times. "I guess I can't drive through that bush" was said more than once.

Bounce off a very expensive imported Italian sports car with minimal damage? No worries.

Hit that tiny roadside shrub, and come screeching to a dead stop.

That's Forizon for ya!

Ha! Yes! I wish it was more obvious which bushes are regular bushes, and which are actually made out of concrete.
