DayZ - ArmaII zombie mod

Also I believe all the Vilayer servers use linked hives. At least within each map type.

Anyone on GWJ Vent these days?

I am on it right now

I always try to log on when I am playing so people can reach me. I will be on later tonight for a few hours.

I checked back into DayZ this weekend after Fripper suggested we try Namalsk. I like this mod better than the other alt maps, but it still lacks the organic feel of an actual place that Chernarus has. Still, it was a lot of fun to get back into the game and re-learn how to sneak and manage agro. (read: I died a lot at first.)

The lack of food spawns is an interesting twist. On the one hand, there isn't enough time to learn where the food is before your survivor starves to death. On the other, once you either figured out that all the food is in the north or consulted a "cheater map" to locate the residential loot spawns and grocery stores, the game has a nice balance. I also got a kick out the buildings and objects taken from the STALKER games, since that series gave me many of my favorite survival-horror experiences. (Hell, it gave me a lot of my favorite video-game experiences, period.)

We found, stole, and repaired a pickup and a jeep and had a good time driving around the islands. They came in handy as Fripper could drive to my spawn point after I fell off a ladder and died, tried to break the glass on the hospital with a grenade and died, or got knocked out by an angry swarm, had my leg broken and died. While loot is plentiful in Namalsk, it didn't feel like the military-gear candy store I've found on some maps. The extra zed and lack of food also gives scrounging a different and better feel. We didn't hit many of the military bases, but I don't recall finding any exotic loot over the whole weekend, other than ammo-less Bizon and FN-FAL rifles in the truck we appropriated. No sniper rifles other than a CZ in a barn. This is a definite improvement over the surplus of .50 cal sniper rifles in every outhouse experience.

The server we've been playing on has some annoying settings such as side chat and now nametags, so I think we'll look at some of the private servers listed upthread.

Agreed that Namalsk was a good change. For the first time ever, I actually died from thirst and hunger, and not without plenty of loot spawns checked. I liked it.

Also having some fun on Panthera, but tonight I just spawn-died, then respawed in with absolutely nothing, not even a backback. Still, keeping it refreshing if y ou can jump around different maps depending on friends playing/gaming mood. Though I do suffer from the 'You cannot edit/play this mission' error quite frequently, and have to endure the 'reinstall dance' to get it back up and running.

On top of that, it's actually made me like Chernarus even more, so hoping that Chernarus-plus won't lose the feel of that map.

If Rocket's aiming for before the end of the year, then there can't be long to wait!

I can't remember if I saw info about this on this site, so appologies if this has already been posted, but a group of guys have come up with a bounty system that will run on a modified-Chernarus on a private server. Basically you pay either $5, $10, $15, or $20 and that gets you a certain number of lives on the server, and you will get paid for killing zombies, other players, and the outlaw (player with the most kills).

Hey guys!
I would love to get an invite to the Steam group. I bought Day Z a month ago and have found it impenetrable so far. You can use my email to look me up on Steam (if this group is still active).
Thanks!

Hmm, Email as username.
I smell danger and much spam in your future.

Invite sent. The @gmail.com wouldn't be a part of your Steam ID, it's just http://steamcommunity.com/id/dariuskeel

Unfortunately, I don't think I can change it at this point. And thanks for the invite! I'm looking forward to playing with everyone.

I think I an actually hold off on this until January. Too many games come out this time of year and I would hate to see the beginnings of this game getting smothered.

In an interview a month or so ago he acted like if it didnt get released before years end that it might not happen. He didnt actually say that but the word choice he had used gave me that idea.

Whenever he releases it it will be worth the wait I think. I am loving Namalsk at the moment and if anyone want to play like try to meet up or something that would be fun. Vent seems pretty quiet lately but I am still playing pretty regularly on some server. So if anyone ever wants to play they can PM or just message me on Steam.

I'm barely ever on lately. FTL still draws me in every time I sit at the 'puter.

I still idle around on Vent tho, pull me in if anyone's on.

Things did not go as planned

Any landing that you can walk away from.....

I've been playing on a survivaloperations.net custom Hard Corp servers the last couple weeks. They are currently in the process of working out some bugs on a new release so things aren't quite where they have been but it is pretty intense.

Custom weapon table (no L85 Thermal, no 50 cals, well there weren't the m107) they are trying a new mod that allows customization of NATO weapons, so you have to find scopes, silencers and the like (so that m107 is iron sites until you find a scope). Custom vehicles, they had an osprey and little birds but the osprey has been pulled.

I've hooked up with some guys from SimHQ and they've been a blast to play with.

Later that same day... An example of why it is so difficult to insure your vehicles on Namalsk Island.

Sounds like some good choices. A big part of the fun in DayZ is scrounging to get your kit.

I've really enjoyed my time on Namalsk even though/because it can be a brutal map. With the lack of food down south, the dire need of heatpacks or the rare warm clothing up north, and the single Hospital, the island itself plays the role of an additional adversary.

I've read some interesting things about Taviana map. The most eye opening part was that zombies can only be killed via a headshot.

I had a feeling this might end up happening, with all of the features people want to see and how polished Rocket has been saying he wants it to be.

This is actually good news because this architecture can handle the numbnuts who were alt-f4ing to bounce between servers. On the downside it puts the onus of staying up and handling large populations on whomever is managing the server farm.

His blog entry details the expanding scale of the DayZ project, which is more or less running on a new engine. "We are moving to the server-client MMO architecture model. We are making weapons and items 'entities,' meaning we can support customization and variables assigned against items," Hall explains. "This is a massive departure from the previous engine. In many ways, once this phase is completed -- one could effectively say that DayZ is running on a new version of the engine. While the graphics may look the same (for now), under the hood so much is being completely rewritten."

Hey Folks-

Not directly DayZ related but...
I'm going to give the Wasteland thing a try tomorrow [Friday] evening around 6pm PST.
https://dev-heaven.net/projects/wasteland-survival-sandbox
It's not a mod, more of a mission file.
So you load up plain old ARMA II, join a Wasteland server and it downloads automatically.
Very PvP focused with no zombies but lots of vehicles and weapons.
I'll be on Vent if anyone's interested in joining in and I'm going to live stream and record it, just for kicks.
Hope to see some folks there.

Did you hear about that through Sacriel? I have seen a little bit of him playing it and it definitely looks fun and I'd like to try it out. So it isn't very difficult to get running?

6 Pacific is 9 my time so I might be on around then assuming I can get everything installed fairly easily. I'll definitely look you up.

You'll have to let us know where you're streaming it, might be interested in watching, if I'm still awake that late..

Yeah, I saw a few videos from Sacriel and his squad playing Wasteland.
It seems like an easy setup. No need to use DayZ Commander or anything. Just have the latest beta patch for ARMA II OA installed and then turn off all other mods and search for a Wasteland server.
I found this video that goes through the process: http://youtu.be/zBQLHrempyI

I'll get the stream info posted once I'm back home and have everything set up and working.

I may jump in tonight if it's a quick install

Count me in Masher! It may be late for me but I will be there anyways! I may be playing DayZ but I will log in to vent around that time.

See you all later!
