monday, Monday, MANNE NITE MONDAY! Be there or be a non-manne.

I think you *have* to play the Merasmus map with all-talk on. A) if you accidentally kill someone (like shoptroll said, it's easy to do) yo can say "sorry, didn't mean that" so folks know you probably did it on accident. B) with all-talk on, the admins can let everyone know that killing people while Merasmus is a kicking offense - and people can tell the admins when someone is killing people on purpose.

Without all-talk (and admins willing to kick people), it just turns into the internet, a wretched hive of scum and villainy.

Yikes, nearly impossible to kill Merasmus on a pub server, and when you do, you're probably dead because people are just killing each other for whatever reason. So frustrating.

I have to admit, the other night, I was part of that problem. I started by helping to kill Merasmus, but after getting killed so many times while doing that and noticing that only about 3 or 4 others on the server were actually paying attention to him, I concentrated on just killing and capping.

This is the same problem as Monoculus, of course. The game itself doesn't even know if it's competitive or coop. That makes it confusing even when people are trying to be Good Citizens, and stupidly easy to grief.

I'm not sure why, but it doesn't feel like as big a deal on Mann Manor. Partly, I think everyone "gets" that the boss is a sideshow to the point-capping. Or maybe Mann Manor is just such a hot mess that it doesn't matter.

A server option to turn off enemy fire when the boss shows up with help this game style a ton.

It seems to me there are a number of differences that make Mann Manor work differently.
**The Headless Horseman is easier to kill - he was dying when I was playing on a pub server even without a great deal of coordinated attack.
**The HH also moves around much more quickly - the players don't just stand still and shoot at him making easy targets themselves. They need to keep moving as if he were any other opponent.
**The map is much more compartmentalized - even if someone is attacking the HH, the visibility and accessibility of that player to the enemy team is quite restricted.

I thought you all would be interested to know that I often play TF2 with a small handicap.

Manor is also older than the others, so there's probably less incentive to have a clusterball of players following the HHH around now.

This discussion reminds a bit of grade school soccer games / gym class. "Beehive soccer" I think was the term used to describe everyone huddling around the ball.

That is strangely addicting.

Strangely it is.

If I wanted to type that much while shooting mannes, I would play TF2 as a spy.

Can anyone hop on and change it from Hydro please?

It's Sunday. Where are mannes??!?!!

I played a map I've never played before last night and my first thought was that ukick would be incredibly annoying on it. Let's never played that map.

Spoiler:

I actually don't remember the name. It wasn't a very good map.

Those maps cycling on that server Saturday night were quite obscure. Got on the same server Sunday night which had a more familiar selection of maps. It was the first time in a long time where I actually played nucleus not for warm ups. TOO MANY RAZORBACKS!

If it's the map they were on when I jumped on with you guys, it was like 2fort, if you tried to make 2fort worse in every conceivable way. If a map can be a troll, it was a troll map.

I stayed on there for five minutes or so trying to wring fun out of, but it was too much for me.
