iPhone Games Catch-All

Everything Katy mentioned is good, though I didn't like Tiny Heroes. Most other people seem to like it.

Kingdom Rush, PvZ, Fieldrunners 2, The Creeps!, and Anomaly: Warzone Earth are the must-haves, imo. Also check out Sentinel 1-3, Jelly Defense, and Star Defense.

oh yeah I'll diito PvZ and Kingdom Rush. Kingdom Rush is on the iphone, yes, although for some reason the the ipad version was out for months before the phone version showed up.

Had an absolute blast with this game today:

JUMPING FINN TURBO
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/jump...

Not really sure how to describe the gameplay, but if you like the Adventure Time license, you're going to dig this. If you DON'T know the show, I still think you're going to dig it. Very addictive.

GTA Chinatown Wars is on sale, down from $10 to just $1:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/gran...

Heard good things about this one when it originally came out for DS. Excited to see how it plays on my iPhone.

Defender Chronicles - Legend of the Desert King was an odd guilty pleasure of mine as well. I'd never seen tower defense done as a 2D sidescroller with RPG leveling elements. It's been a while since I've knocked the dust off it so I don't know how its been updared/holds up, but I lost a lot of time to that one. (Looking in the App Store, looks like it's free to play nowadays, so no harm in giving it a go.

Oooh... and there's a sequel. Crap, well there goes $1.99 and probably quite a bit of free time.

It is a blast to play, IMO. The controls are great and the mini-games make great use of the touch interface. This is definitely worth it if you enjoy GTA.

Better than gta3? Picked that up for iOS and I'm having some trouble with the controls.

It was originally a DS game so it should be much better on a phone than GTA3.

I played it a bit back in the day. The controls aren't terrible. I never finished it because I don't really like playing games on a mobile phone. It seemed like a pretty decent game.

10000000 is $.99 at the moment. If you don't have this then you should make a $.99 change in your life.

I just browsed the credits on 10000000 and it says I've played for just shy of 24hrs. It's my go-to Metro ride/waiting in line game. Beat it long ago, but I just keep coming back for more regardless.

X-post from the iPad thread: Letterpress is pretty rad. There's a really appealing mix of strategy and word game with a stellar UI for the price of free. $0.99 IAP unlocks the ability to have multiple games going at once & alt color themes. It's multiplayer only, so add me on game center if you need a spelling buddy.

Old news I know, but I'm posting because I just completed it - League of Evil 2 is a great game on the iPhone. I thought I wouldn't like it because it dropped the 16-bit graphics style of the original, but it's a better game in my opinion.

I listened to you, fired it up, and then looked up and oh god when did it turn in to 1am? Such a great game.

Kind of surprised Punch Quest hasn't been mentioned of late. It doesn't seem very deep to me, but how many runners are? It's easily one of the best crafted runners yet, and has an excellent progression system that doesn't abuse players with IAPs that are usually so poorly designed. It's a blast, runs great even on my iPod 4, and gloriously free. Get it.

And if you do like Punch Quest, consider buying an IAP, because according to the devs, almost no one is buying it.

ARC Squadron is out. Starfox-esque shooter with a lot of upgrades, and levels. .99 USD today, goes to $4.99 tomorrow. I picked it up, and am now having problems working.

This looks awesome, but apparently my 3rd gen ipod touch is not compatible because I don't have a front-facing camera. I'm not sure why I would need that for an arcadey space shooter, but whatever.

Great Big War Game and Galaxy on Fire 2 HD are both on sale for 0.99 at the moment.

I double dipped on galaxy on fire 2 HD even though I have the non-HD version already. If you're in a similar boat, be aware that some people are having issues transferring saves and DLC is not transferable.

Also if you are in Canada, Bladeslinger is out and while I haven't really put enough time in to comment on it, it's a stunning looking game in terms of level of visual detail, probably on the level of infinity blade, but with free movement.

edit: this just in...Spider The Secret of Bryce Manor is free also

Awesome title.

Nab it!

Put about 45 minutes into ARC Squadron last night and quite enjoyed it.

Looks and performs great (iPhone 4 tested). Seems like there's a ton of content and it's just difficult enough to keep you on your toes. Missions are varied so far too.

Good stuff.

Glad that $.99 change is having the same impact it had on me. I beat the game. Had to restore my phone and lost my save. And now in the process of grinding towards victory yet again.

It's good. It obviously reminds me of Jetpack Joyride. I'm not always sure about some of the special moves and sometimes think the collision is a smidge questionable (not in a big way, but just in some slim circumstances). I'm enjoying playing it well enough, and I understand the desire to support the devs though I'm not sure there is enough here that I crave the need to throw $ at it.

Yeah, really enjoying this. The dungeon-crawl mechanic really adds a level of depth to the "match" game. Digging it a lot. Burning my iPhone battery on it...

Seems neat. Added you, anyone else like to play?

Edit: Ha, just made the word "subverting" on my random opponent! Take that!

One thing I like about this one is that it actually has an end goal; I'm generally not a fan of endless runners/score chasers, so it's nice to know is has an ending/victory/escape condition.

Man I love the home/bed screen music in this game! Very catchy.

Second that! I never ever play match three games and I generally avoid endless/score-chase games, but having a clear goal in sight makes it much more palatable.
Wow, thinking about it like this makes me feel like I'm literally the one trying to escape the treadmill, kind of depressing.

I am playing this one, as well.

Speaking of Jetpack Joyride, I finally got all 36 cheevos in that game.

Don't say it, I'm a boss, I know.

Nobody cares about that game anymore. Go play Punch Quest!

Geez... I'm just going to say it anyway.

What a boss.

I've had a couple of fun exchanges with friends so far. In sequence: "forfeit, no, fine" and "cooters, pooters, hooters, shooters"
