Boston, MA Area GwJr's

I always seem to plunk down $20, and even when I'm there with the wife and our roommate, we can't seem to kill that before playing everything.

That's usually the "issue" I have at Funspot, although they'll give you $25 for $20 with a coupon from their website. Demyx and I will binge on games and then just sink the remaining money into ticket games.

Because, seriously, who doesn't want a totally sweet plastic spider ring?

And then you give the tickets to unsuspecting youngsters? I love doing that

Awesome, another Goodjer in Boston! I'm fairly flexible this month, and I'd love to get together. The last time we did it a few weeks ago in Brookline was a lot of fun, and we could do it again. If we don't have a ton of people I might be able to host a board game session too.

I'm still very green behind my board-game ears. I played lots of Catan in college but I don't know what board-games I should try to learn next. Is there anything in particular I should attempt to learn to be ready for this?

Talked with Demyx and we're good with Pinball Wizard on the 10th. Let's do this thing!

What time?

I'll defer that to someone who knows the area and venue better. I've never been there myself.

Suggestion: after lunch? maybe with an optional lunch-time gathering somewhere local?

I'm in for the 10th.

There's a family pizza shop next door to Pinball Wizard called Suppas Pizza (I could only dig up the menu for their Lowell location, but everything on the menu is pretty awesome). There's also a Dunkin Donuts in that plaza, as well as Chunky's Theater (dinner & movie in one place).

Also, looks like ACAM is doing their 3rd Annual PAX East day on Nov 17. Show up with anything that says PAX East (past scarves, shirts, or badges) and get $10 in free tokens. Their usual 150 tokens for $20 coupon deal is also in effect.

Aww the 10th is my first real Warmachine Tournament at The Whiz. Otherwise TheGirlNerd and I would be all over it.

Best of luck Poly - which faction you playing? I've got way too much Cygnar, and have been putting together a Tier4 pMorghoul Skorne list during the Journeyman League this past month at Myriad Games in Manchester, NH.

Nice! I didnt think any GWJers were Warmachine players. Im taking Khador. Its essentially just a battlebox tournament. I figured it was a good way to get to know some players and have a low key tourney experience. I like Morghoul but I play Zaal mostly.

Haven't heard much on preference for times or meeting up for food prior. I personally would be fine with Suppas between 12 and 1.

Booooo! Good luck though!

I concur. On both points. I have no idea what Warmachine is, but best of luck to you polypusher.

Thanks guys. It's a table-top war game, like 40k if you added balance and strategy and fun to 40k.

I'll go ahead and second a noon meetup for lunch followed by arcade hilarity.

How will I know who the other GWJs are? I don't have a strategy for being recognizable as a gamer at an arcade.

I'll be wearing some kind of awesome hat. Maybe I should also pick up some nametags or something...

Speaking of - I know the PA forums do custom badges for each PAX, does GWJ do something similar?

I'll be rocking some sort of nerdy shirt. It can't fail!

Made a dedicated thread for the Pinball Wizard meetup. Let's take any remaining discussion/planning there.

Wish I could make it, looking to meet some other Boston GWj'ers. Anyone on steam? What kinda games do people play on there? Team Fortress 2? Left for Dead?

Wish I could have made it! I spent the past week and a half driving out, unpacking and starting my first week of work at my new job! Consequently I missed this whole thread.

Hopefully we can do something again soon.

No worries Schmutzli, won't be the last.

And welcome to town!

@McIrisihJihad
I wouldn't be able to attend this week but are you still running a board-game night at UMass Lowell on Thursday nights?

I think MonoCheli had about 20 or so buttons he was giving out in tabletop last year. Check last year's pax east thread.

Solid, my wife has been running the Board Game Nights @ UMass Lowell on Thursdays this semester.

Not getting together this week for obvious reasons, but should be doing things each Thursday from 11/29 through 12/14. Semester ends the following week, so they're planning an outing to see The Hobbit on 12/20 if enough people are still around.

Hell, we could shoot for a GWJ Hobbit viewing somewhere close to Boston if we wanted

The IMAX at Jordan's Reading should be showing it. Their Natick branch had posters up when we went to see Dark Knight Rises, don't see why Reading won't have it playing too.

EDIT: Natick might be more central since we have some people in the central/western part of the state.

I'm up for anywhere - Natick, Framingham, Reading, even driving into the city would work for me too.

Think we should start planning for something on the afternoon of the 22nd then? It'll be the 2nd weekend in the theaters, and midday should be less crowded than an evening show.

I'm not sure if I'll be in town or in NW CT visiting family for the holidays by then. If other people are interested, probably a good idea to make a dedicated thread since it'll draw more attention to the event.

ST, since you took point on the last one, figured I could return the favor.

Boston-area S&T: Let's see The Hobbit thread

I couldn't remember who ran it. I knew you often picked up the food from Suppa's.

It'd be fun to attend one of the Board Game nights if you'll share the time and place.

Now I'm off to The Hobbit thread.

Ah - I see the confusion. I run a D&D game on Tuesday nights (where we usually order Suppa's), and my wife runs a Board Game Night on Thursdays (where nothing would stop you from ordering Suppa's).

Usually kicks off around 7pm on Thursdays, in room 357, McGauvran Student Union, UML South Campus. There's a faculty parking lot across the street on Wilder St that turns to free parking after 3:30 each weekday.
