You can change it in account settings, I think. I noticed it and stopped it showing.

Ok thanks. I'll have a look.

Why do women find Irish accents attractive?

1Dgaf wrote:

Because they are really attractive?

But what about it is? Is it something in the sound? Some idea of what its men are supposed to be like?

Miashara wrote:

That seems kind of shocking. What if you do your own maintenance?

You better be able to prove it somehow. Or just don't pay for a warranty that depends on documented maintenance.

Ha! I think you are reading into that specific accent too much. I'm pretty sure there is a syndrome where everyone tends to find an accent that is different attractive. I have no idea why this is. In the spirit of this thread, has anyone done a scientific analysis of this phenomenon?

Well, southern American accent doesn't count. I'm not sure what happened there, but we'll just say it doesn't count.

That's part of what I'm wondering about. And...am I reading too much into it? Maybe, maybe.

Southern American accent on a pretty girl definitely counts

Well, that might have been true until sooooookieeeee ruined it.

I don't think it's necessarily the Irish accent that's attractive. It might just be the fact that it's different from what people are used to hearing, and therefore it's more exotic? I mean, I've lived in Ireland most of my life and I don't find it especially attractive. Scottish, on the other hand... rawr.

A more pertinent question for me is why so many people find Australian accents attractive. Never been able to understand that one. I mean, it's not pleasant.

I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this, but you're wrong. Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong. You may be able to be more wrong, but it would require at least three university graduates, a ladder, and a field full of badgers. It's possible that you've created some sort of black hole of wrongness that will engulf the known universe. There will be a textbook written about the great mistakes of history, and though they may spell your name wrong (historians can be sloppy), you will be whispered about down through the ages as "That Guy" who was so wrong it required surgery to repair.

I mean, I don't necessarily agree with your opinion.

Caveat, female Australian accents = great, male Australian accents = annoying. Admittedly, there may be some personal bias here but I'm putting it out there as a demonstrable fact.

So you're saying I'm wrong?

Hang on. You're saying the Australian accent is pleasant? You're weird.

In my college Bio class, the professor talked about accents being a factor in attractiveness as part of natural selection. Cross-breeding improves genetic diversity, good for the sake of evolution. An accent indicates a potential mate is exotic and factors into breeding prospects. He had a great anecdote about his British roommate in the 70's being a real lady-killer. One late night at the bar the roommate drunkenly slipped into a Southern-Drawl. It turned out that the guy had practiced a British accent for nearly a whole year before moving just to pick up women and role-played it pretty thoroughly.

I have heard that Australian Women go nuts for a Southern Drawl, but have no experience to back that up.

Some part of how attractive you find an accent is going to depend on what your native accent is.

I suppose it depends on which Australian accent as well. Two of them are okay and one is thoroughly irritating.

Clearly you've never played a game with Prozac.

Ausrtralian women sound screechy.

Australian women sound better with an urban Australian accent and worse with a broad Australian accent.

Have you seen Mike Monteiro's "f*ck You, Pay me" video?

So after watching this video -- which was AMAZING by the way -- I decided f*ck it, he's not paid me in six months and after several emails, so I tweaked my article over the weekend and set it to go live this morning at 7 AM.

6:19 AM this morning, the guy finally writes back, something along the lines of "Er, gosh, did you send an invoice?"

Invoice? I was never asked for an invoice. At this point, I just wanna write back and say "Nah, but I'm good, thanks." I don't even want the money anymore, honestly.

Clearly you've never heard Australian cinema legend Tess Davies.

I'm going to buck the trend and say that New Zealand accents are best.

Is there a way, in Windows 7, to throttle the bandwidth used when transferring files via wifi from one laptop to another?

Do you have a flash drive or some other way to transfer them? They'd almost certainly be faster.
