Fitocracy Catch-All

Does anyone have tips for increase grip strength? I feel like I can deadlift more than I am currently but holding onto the damn bar is keeping me from it.

Take up rock climbing. Seriously, it's the best grip workout I've ever had, and once you get past the quick forearm pump it's the grip that you have to keep improving.

Tagging. I like this idea of a fitness apps mix in there.

Gonna read the thread, and get back to you all (I'm not truly in a fitness shape, but I'm slowly, but surely getting there.)

Buckled spine from a motorcycle accident, still suffering 5 years on. It never goes away, you find ways to deal with it.

Then do it (please), because that is quality you do not want to compromise. :nicekiss:

It's bloody awful. I was crippled with scoliosis for years. There's no escape from the pain.

Weakest chain will catch up, don't use straps and other cheats. Short of that, farmer walks and thick bar training. As far as I'm concerned, the old school idea of wrist curls and finger curls are curses from the RSI Devil.

Also try switching up alternating grip between sets.

I do one palm in and one palm out and chalk. It works pretty well. Both palms in it is difficult to hold. I did straps some last year before discovering the in/out grip and have not used them since. I do use chalk, though. One thing I do like about the straps is that it doesn't put near as much stress on the calluses on my hands. The in/out grip works for me. I use a both palms in grip for shrugs (same weight) to help with grip strength and because it takes less time. I'm not against straps but they won't improve grip strength. When I was using them it was just the last set or two.

I'm beginning to think that maybe it's just because I'm only starting lifting again after a long hiatus. I don't think I should need to use chalk or straps if I'm only lifting 175....

Ok, is logging the walking time to go to my work place ok?

Well, I walk 30 minutes both ways, no commute, no cars (except when someone offer me a ride).

The leveling system seems like a booster to get into it more, and get points, and achievements... Argh, gaming will begin to fit me?

Add me as a friend if you wanna, I go by ManachGWJ on there.

Walking is definitely OK. We are not about minimum exercise levels or anything like that. We are all about encouraging each other to get fit, in any way that works. If walking is how you get fit, then walk away!!

No, not at that weight, although they might be useful while you train your grip. You might need to do the alternating grip, but my DL is a little above that with a normal non-alternating grip, no chalk, no straps. Stuff like farmer's walks and other static holds might be something you'll want to include in your workouts.

I'd count it if I've chosen the exercise method over a non-exercise method (bus, car, train).

Example: if you cycled to work you'd count it, right?

Thanks for the sharing.

I showed the app to a RL friend, and she logged in thru Facebook... Now, I never did that for any apps. Is it ok to use that kind of logging? Is it an API just like steam does?

The mixed grip worked like a charm today when I got to higher weights on my deadlifts today. Now I am incredibly sore.

How do you view challenges 'in browser'?

They show up on the mobile App, but trying to check it in Safari on the iPad, no dice?

Spoiler:

I am expecting it to be really easy, I am hanging my head in shame in anticipation of the answer.

They've buried it:

  • Connect
  • Your Groups=>GWJ
  • Challenge

/Head hung not so low.

Thanks!

I love there iDevice apps, tho, I dislike there webpage for logging stuff into.

Had to input 3 times an exercices before the webpage accept the info.

Yeah, that's a pain. Fixing it doesn't seem to be a priority for the devs.

What's got 2 thumbs and a resting pulse rate of 60 down from a lifetime average of 75-80?

Niiiiiiiice!

(Also, I *really* need to start logging my workouts on my account. Always forget to do that )

Fixed that for me.

I haven't logged anything in nearly two weeks. I keep meaning to go in and update but something gets in the way. One thing to note is you can't go back more than a week. I think I'll go log my stuff right now. Thanks for the reminder.

Congrats! That's awesome!

I think the latest runkeeper update has borked fitocracy integration. It keeps logging my runs twice, and even when I delete one it seems to reappear.

Fitocracy has gotten a bit crazy recently. All of my feeds are totally spammed by Fitocracy Hero posts. The only way to actually track my friends is to look at the activities feed. I imagine they'll fix it soon, but yeesh.

I haven't been on fitocracy in weeks. I'm still exercising but I just haven't been logging it. I've been looking for some other way to log using my phone. I may come back but looking elsewhere right now.

Their failure to deliver an Android app is well beyond disappointing.

Android is coming soon. I've been testing the beta versions and it seems to work very much like the ios version.

*disclaimer: log my workouts after the fact. I log my workouts on the You Are Your Own Gym app first, then type into fitocracy. So I may not be the typical user of the service.

You are double logging? Ugh. No way I would do that.

One of the benefits of a fibre rich diet?

Ugh, that's annoying to hear. I haven't been on the site for a few weeks because I fell off the horse, but I'll be getting back on when I get back from the Christmas holiday in the new year. I've been missing lifting.

I've fallen waaaay off the horse. Guess I'll log back in and see if anyone remembers me.
