Just received an update from the guys behind Haunts. They're going open source and enlisting the help of a bunch of programmers to finish the game. Everything sounds really positive and I hope we get a finished product at some point.

Link to places to contribute?

Sorry, family stuff got in the way of me being on the internetz this week.

The update was on Kickstarter, but if the post is locked for backers only there's a Google doc here with a survey.

This one was posted several pages back. They're coming up on the deadline, so hurry up and back it! Looks like a fantastic storage/travel option for board games!

It's been awhile since I've backed something but I'm thinking backing this: Dominion Caddy.

I've been following the early development of this on RPS and it has got my interest. I'm in.

Too late, I've pledged.

I'm sad that this one didn't reach funding, and that I only found out about it just now. Ah, well, hopefully they'll try again.

I'm still bullish on this guy. He wanted $750k to make the hard plastic awesome version with his first KS, and you had to pledge $200 to get "the whole system".

Then he came back with the canvas version, but was still looking for $250k to make that happen. At least his "all-in" pledge was a little lower at $125 this time around.

He went from 116 TOTAL backers on the first one, to 538 backers with the second attempt, but was still only 23% to goal.

I still think he's got a great idea, but think he might be best off starting smaller. The numbers that he's shooting for seem a little on the higher end, but I've never gotten myself into industrial design and manufacturing to tell if it really takes $750k to do his injection modeled plastic design and manufacturing at a decent economy of scale.

I really do want to see him try for a 3rd shot, but again cutting down the scope of the project. I have a feeling if he goes for just the Magic Chamber and its accessories, can get the pricing under $40, and total project goal under $50k, he'll probably make it. Then he can use that success to fuel the next stages, and with 2 or 3 more Kickstarter projects, be at a point where you can get the full Keep package.

I believe that's the plan now, McIrish. After the funding failed, he posted this in an update:

We cut our scope from the first project significantly but it was not enough. Now, we are looking at ways to launch The Keep System in pieces. We think there are a lot of pros to breaking the scope up in this way:
■Allows gamers to build up their Keep incrementally without a large upfront investment
■Allows us to focus on making each piece as good as it can be
■Splits the funding needed across several projects.

The Great Chamber - Expected Launch January 2013

Our first candidate, since there are no molds and minimum orders aren't in the thousands. We have a number of options to launch the Great Chamber. As a solo project we can focus on improving it - including a greater variety of color options, removable small pockets, an art sleeve, and a modular chamber that can split in two.

And there are similar discussions on each of the other parts for the system.

Sweet! Can't wait to see his next attempt then.

Just saw this on RPS.

Greenlight vote = done. Backing the kickstarter = done.

I liked Nitronic Rush so much that I sent them an email essentially saying "shut up and take my money" back when it was first released (for free). Now I can actually give them money, so I am! I normally only pledge the minimum amount to get the game, but because I enjoyed NR so much and will surely enjoy Distance as well, I chose the $25 level.

If you haven't tried Nitronic Rush, I recommend you try it. It's a really, really great feeling game. It also gives an indication of the feel that they will be going for with Distance. I don't know that the game will get much attention, but I'm really excited for it.

I can't +1 that hard enough.

Also the Kickstarter video has Cliff Bleszinski talking about how awesome Nitronic Rush is.

I promptly skipped that part. :?

About half-way done and half-way to their goal. Really hope they make it.

Not Kickstarter, but interesting

Snip

The insane thing is that the $750,000 was to be used to make a run of 10,000 which seems like an absurdly large number considering we're talking about a niche market.

I posted mentioned this in the BG thread, but a chap I know puts his games into plastic document folders that can be re-sealed. I'm sure you could fit ten of them into a backpack.

Elite:Dangerous

Another reboot of a classic game. I'm intrigued but my wallet has had enough for awhile. I'm going to watch on updates for this one.

I thought this was an interesting concept:

Sui Generis

Basically an RPG in isometric view based on a physics-orientated engine that he built himself. (Seriously, watch the video!)

Sui Generis is not about running around killing hordes of enemies in order to collect experience points and numerous items. It is about exploring a world and being involved in major events there. What exactly you do and how you do it is entirely up to you. The world is carefully designed to be believable and have a life of its own. It is not there to wait for you to go on quests, trigger events or make decisions. Events will take their course and may take a turn for the worse if you don't get involved.

Much of the time combat situations will be occasional yet meaningful. Few opponents can be dismissed as trivial. Though there are powerful items, even an old rusty sword can be effective in the right hands. There are no levels, but there is a more natural progression system based on skills and thaumaturgic powers. There are no classes, but rather countless possible builds with diverse and interesting qualities.

Sounds right up my alley!

Why is everything a shade of brown? That kind of environment really turns me off these days, just so bland.

Did you also notice that it's a Roguelike?

Death will not be hard to come by and carries consequences, and there is no saving and loading.

Emphasis added

Yes. Yes, yes, yes. This is the sort of stuff I want in combat. Each encounter should have meaning and control like it.

That looks amazing. Def interested.

Makes me sad, with 9 days left to go I don't think Distance is going to hit their goal.

From the latest backer update wrote:

Yes, your character does turn out to be special. If you weren't special you wouldn't stand a chance. And here comes a spoiler. Rather than providing you with this astounding power to record moments in time and return to them whenever you please (read save/load) so that you may win every battle, eventually, even by pure chance; we thought it better for it to be an element of the story. We don't just brush over this as an every day "respawn" or other mechanic. Also, to quote our project page, "not as vague mythology but actual chains of events leading to the current situation".

Have to trust them on this - but I'm not too bothered by it atm.

As far as I understand, that's just the tech demo - they don't have anything really made for the game yet.

This will likely be my first kickstart. BariBariBall looks incredible.

It does, and the fools organizing Pencon weren't savvy enough to get "it" to attend. The fact that I brought it up mere weeks beforehand is just an excuse.

Finally, the most important addition of all: you'll be able to impale your opponent on your pole, and wave his lifeless body around as a kind of club.

Sold! Oh wait, I don't even have a PS3 or controllers that would support the games...still sold on the concepts though.

Someone should think up of how to do iOS/Droid games that makes use of the bluetooth, accelerometer and touch screens found on such devices to do similar stuff.

Backed in a heartbeat. I had to talk myself down from the 18+ person version... J.S. Joust is just great. I really hope they hit the target, I want this game.
