MechWarrior: Online - Catch all

My low-end system (i3, GTS250) handles it just nice after the latest patch, which seriously optimized things. It was playable before. I would remain optimistic.

My system is even older(better vid card, core2 quad core CPU), and I haven't had many issues playing.

I finally got into the beta and have been playing around for a couple of days now. Not being able to set up my joystick is driving me insane. I've read everything I can find on the MWO forums, but still haven't been able to resolve the problem. My 'stick is a Saitek Cyborg Evo.

Otherwise, this game is awesome but I'm going to keep using the freebie mechs until I get better at driving and figure out which to buy first.

I gave up trying to get the same joystick set up. It ends up though that you really dont need it. It plays well with just m/k.

There's some info on setting a couple models up, just not my particular one.

Here's the link:

My ancient Saitek just worked, no fiddling required beyond calibration in Windows device management. You don't need one, though, and I do say you're going to play better without one, but it does feel so much cooler.

This teamspeak server has really added to my enjoyment of the game. There is always around a hundred players in the server and I've never waited more than a few minutes in the LFG channel before being recruited for a drop.

Comstar Relay Europe (Comstar EU)
Available Slots: 512 Man

Is that the unofficial TS server? Because I have nothing but good things to say about it as well.

I have also found a bunch of the Clans on it to be very friendly when you drop with them.

Yes it is. My entire weekend has been consumed by MWO and this teamspeak server. It's a great community.

Looks like a big update today. New mechs, changing the mechlab up, double heat sinks, etc.

And they didn't completely wipe. You still have 75% of your c-bills from 9/18 on, and you still have some GXP and mech specific XP. Plus, my key binds didn't get destroyed for the first time.

Looks like they have a training video:

This is narrated by the hosts of No Guts, No Galaxy. If you haven't given their show a listen I highly recommend it. They talk about all things Mechwarrior including MWO, MWTactics, Mektek, Living legends, and tabletop.

Yeah, I posted about them up thread as well. I'm don't have a background in Battletech stuff, but the game stuff is interesting. Probably picking up some lore via osmosis.

Open Beta date announced. Part 2.

Greetings everyone!

We wanted to give you an update on how everything is going, and to thank you for being here with us!

Firstly: Open Beta is on schedule and will be beginning quite soon (12 noon PDT, Monday!) This means we’re very close to getting the final phases of the main beta features coming in. On that as well, Open Beta is our final reset. Once it happens, we will not be resetting everything again. We will be resetting C-Bills, MC, XP, GXP, Mechs, and inventory. The only thing you’ll keep is your friends list. However, if you have a Founders pack, everything will be added from that pack. Also anything you’ve purchased (with MC) will be added back.

Also, we’ve added the Cicada, which is currently my favourite Mech. It’s a lot of fun, and if you have the chance, I seriously suggest you try it out. We also added new variants to the Jenner (JR7-K); Raven (RVN-3L); Awesome (AWS-9M). And for your Mechs equipment, we added Ferro-Fibrous armour, Endosteel structure, and Double Heat Sinks. I’m feeling more and more a kid in a candy store in the Mechlab. On top of that, we added our first hero Mech, the ever-iconic Centurion, Yen-Lo-Wang! Sporting an AC/20, two medium lasers, 30% C-Bill boost, and a very cool paintjob, the Yen-Lo-Wang certainly stands out on the battlefield! (Check it out in the Mechlab for more info.)

Ah, and one more thing – we’re adding the Premium Account Button for Founders purchasers. What does it do? Shortly after Open Beta hits, Founders purchasers’ premium time will be reset once more and a button will be added. If they press this button, their time will begin. This will be a one-time deal, so use it wisely!

For more information on all of this, please feel free to read this post from Piranha Games President Russ Bullock.

Thank you for reading, and we hope you enjoy the game.

Wait so if you have a founders pack anything you buy with MC right now is permanent?

*edit*

Apparently it was worded poorly, founders will also have their MC reset at Open Beta.

As you were!

Open beta started today.. I'm playing now.

DrNathaniel

First couple of rounds were fun!

Great games with you guys last night, thanks for switching over to Mumble with us.

One thing I have noticed with the open beta is home many LRMs there are. All the trial mechs have LRMsso they seem to be flying a lot.

Nathaniel: how was your impression from last night?

I forgot how long it takes to get enough CBills to buy an XL engi e to get my DRG-1N setup how I want.

Not that anybody should really care, but I uninstalled this game last night. Gave it a few tries over the last few weeks, but it just rubs me the wrong way. Not so much the combat--despite the fact that I hate the monochromatic levels--which I find tolerable, but everything else. The main garage GUI is HORRENDOUS. I was hoping they would fix it, but all they did is make it worse. Yes, they improved a few logical things here and there, but the whole layout is insane! It took me 3 full minutes to figure out where I can buy my own mechs. And I played the game before!!!

I'll take a look at it in another 6 months if it's still around by then. Maybe they'll have had a chance to completely revamp the main interface. If not, ah well, there are certainly more usable games out there. For shame.

And then she said "..all systems nominal".

*FIST PUMP!*

Apparently the voice files are in the game already, just some switch that needs to be flicked.

"Clan Wolf, the warden way..." (er something to that effect... its been 20 years!)

Is there a mode where I can run around in by myself? I want to learn mech ins and outs.

Not yet, and not sure if there will be. I can sorta sum it up for you, the mechlab/out of game UI is most likely your biggest hurdle off the rip. As far as controls go
Mouse = Torso twist/arm swing
LMButton = Weapon grp 1
RMButton = Wpn grp 2
Mouse Back button = Wpn grp 3
W = Throttle Up / Move Forward
S = Throttle Down / Reverse
A = Turn Left
D = Turn Right

Ingame HUD

Bottom Left is dmg indicator ranging from greyish (no dmg) to red (About to die) then gone (DAMN THEM LRM BOATS!!!)
Bottom Right is your weapons split into 2 grps for your 2 crosshairs... yes 2 crosshairs

+ = Torso weapons
o = Arm weapons

1,2,3,4,... = the weapon grp
You can assign the weapons by pressing the up and down arrows to highlight the weapon, use the Right Control button to deselect it from set grp, left and right arrows to move to the grp you wish to assign it to and then RControl again to reassign it. You can have the same weapon in multiple grps

BACKSPACE ON A WEAPON GRP to assign Chain Fire... You will know it is set to chain fire when it begins blinking black through that weapon set.

think thats the most important stuff for know. Anyone care to correct my errors / add to / do a better tutorial because I'm too lazy to look up pics?

Edit: Oh yeah... for the love of god and LRM boats use R to target. After awhile the mech info of your target will display in the upper right showing their load out and dmg if any. I think most of this is covered in the training video on their website. Haven't watched it so can't say what all is in it.

Cannot wait for the voice files. It's not like they'll change the game, but right now it's definately missing the extra atmosphere the voice will give.

"Ammo depleted"
"Heat critical"
"Shutdown overridden"
"Mech power up detected"

Good times.

I'm really hoping for some bigger maps. I agree with the discussion on the recent conference call-- it feels so cramped that it limits the potential for a wide variety of tactics. I get it-- the desire for instant action, but I would really love a multi- capture point attack/defend mode. Or eventually some PvE against the Clans.

I like some of the ways MWO is more approachable than other MechWarrior games, but I miss that extra layer of complexity I felt. I hope they add some of that as the beta progresses.

From listening to the devs on podcasts, I think a lot of the complexity is coming. They've got some pretty big plans on fighting for planets, more game types, etc.

I assume this is what they could get out and start the revenue flowing, then things will gradually get added in over time.

I've not been listening to the podcasts-- any good?

I'm finding No Guts No Galaxy interesting, but it's sometimes down in the Mechwarrior lore, which isn't really my thing. It also covers the three games, not just MWO.

But the questions and discussions with the MWO devs is interesting if you want to hear what's planned.

How are people meeting up for matches now? The GWJ vent channel sometimes has a few people, but it's not very common. The game is a lot more fun with others, but I'm reluctant to just join random teamspeak servers that people post unless I know more about them...

You should at least give the Comstar EU teamspeak a chance. It is a mech geek's paradise. I've spent the majority of my free time this past month hanging out in there just talking about load outs and tactics and then trying them. It's a great experience.

How do we access that?
