Firefall Catch-All

Was lucky enough to start in the same instance as Nathan Fillion and Alison Haislip. Unable to join their group but managed to friend Alison!
Tried my first PvP (Harvester), enjoyed the game type but I definitely need to get another tier 2 frame. Recon didn't work out so great...

They also mentioned a patch should be incoming real soon with halloween styled masks, and showed them. I recall a skull, pumpkin, cat ears, scarecrow (ripoff of the recent batman movie so much so I hope they don't get sued) and a couple others at least. So basically, I would guess they'll be dropping the patch on Monday.

And today's warpaint is available. It's sad because it looks so similar to the first day's. Kinda like how Thurs/Fri looked so similar. Oh well, they're freebies for founders.

I agree, can't complain being they were free, but can't help but feeling that the Team Unicorn warpaint was the most unique.

EDIT: Confirmed that BETA Patch is going live TONIGHT!
EDIT2: Do'h, Tomaytohausered

The next patch is live tonight so says the stream right now.

EDIT: hahahahaha Eldon

Patch notes:

THE NEW STUFF TO DO
* NIGHT OF THE MELDING!!! (queue spooky noises, Theremin music)
* See the new dashboard when you log in. See the glorious information! More to come with this nifty tool.
* Luau Larry now has a wide assortment of Halloween collectibles for sale!
* The New You now has Halloween masks and hats for the fashionably creepy!
* Warpaints are now available in the Garage. Basic colors and founders unlocks are free to swap around, premium paints have a Red Bean cost. We suggest Pink Flamingo. Be loud, be proud!
* Premium paints are not unlocked for all battleframes. They are purchased when applied to a specific frame. You are paying for a paint swap, and it is possible to pay for a specific premium paint more than once.
* New Decals! Your body is ready!

THE CHOSEN WAR
* Watchtowers have undergone an overhaul.
* They look quite a bit different (Important!)
* They can be captured by Chosen Forces, denying players areas to spawn and customize their battleframes and looks.
Players can attack Chosen controlled watchtowers with extreme prejudice, driving out the evil bastards and recapturing the point.
* Chosen Incursions and Drop Pods now dynamically spawn throughout the open world. Find them, crush them, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women (wherever they may be…)!
* Chosen from Drop Pods will wander, creating Incursions, and assault Watchtowers, expanding their influence in the region.

NEW FAUNA FOR YOU TO ENDANGER!
* New Creatures have appeared to challenge human superiority! Punish their insolence!
* The Feral Canine: Not your best friend...
* The Jungle Harrier: In lieu of a jawbone, collect its beak!
* The Brontodon: It has arrived! Seemingly peaceful, until you shoot it.
* The Wyrm: The early bird tried to catch this Wyrm. It failed.
* The Nautilus: We answered your silent pleas for more tentacles!
* The Argonauts: The angry entourage of the Nautilus. Like being attacked by leaping toddlers overdosed on Pixie Sticks!

Be Adventurous and Explore! So what if you die!
* Our points of interest are beginning to take on new looks as we prepare them for more content. Check them out.
* The world map includes new icons and feedback on watchtower and POI status.
* A new player direction system will sample your levels of activity, and “suggest” nearby encounters.
Multi-tier Queue
* You can now select the tier(s) you wish to queue for PvP. This means a Tier 1 can queue up into Tier 2, and players with both tiers in their garage can find the first available!
* Be warned that heading into a tier 2 match as tier 1 is ill-advised, but totally respected.

NEW ABILITIES!
Assault
* Firecat Burnjets: Hover over your enemies and “enlighten” them with a generous dousing of heat from your feet!
* Tigerclaw Rocket Jump: Launch yourself into the air while making those around you suffer for standing so close!
Biotech
* Recluse Evacuate: The ultimate in self-GTFO! Launch yourself backwards from danger while leaving a poisonous present behind.
* Dragonfly Healing Pillar: Lob healing plasma that erupts in a fountain of “feel-good” after a few seconds.
Dreadnaught
* Rhino Explosive Rounds: Temporarily spit hot fire! Your bullets go boom!
* Mammoth Absorption Bomb: Go immobile and suck up damage to unleash AoE hell on nearby attackers!
Engineer
* Electron Salvo Proxy: Shoot a missile, which turns into a bunch of missiles, that homes in on your reticle to make someone or something completely miserable!
* Bastion Supply Station: Deployable health and ammo to both feel and be important!
Recon
* Raptor Supercharge Shot: Make your friends more awesome… by shooting them!
* Nighthawk Decoy: Retreat into stealth, leaving behind a not so friendly doppelganger that attracts attention, then blows it up.

Patch is live.

Spoiler:

It's a big one (~2GB), but looks like there are a lot of changes.

Downloading it now.
Thoughts on the update, from the manifest:
~Not really a big fan of their decision regarding warpaints.
~Thumping should be extra special now with all the new spawn types.
~Hoping "Chosen from Drop Pods will wander, creating Incursions, and assault Watchtowers, expanding their influence in the region." will get to see some Incursions into Trans Hub and Thump Dump, looking forward to encountering the possibility of that (I'd bet the south falls first).

~Night Of the Melding event... Hopefully not a Halloween day exclusive, otherwise quite curious and excited.

I'm still patching, though Psych is already loaded in.

His narration is outstanding, and is chock-full of "OMG" and "Holy sh*t that thing just threw a rock at me" and "Ow ow ow ow ow".

Look forward to checking things out.

Downloading it now. My first character is an engineer. I'm still very low level on copacabana. Is it worth buying this founder thing?

Do you want a bike..?

In any case, unless you want it for the Red Beans, you can just (hopefully) catch up with one of us who has a founder's package for the xp bonus.
Then again they have been treating Founders to extra stuff (see: Firefall Fest warpaints)

One of the biggest changes, in my brief bit of play so far. Chosen are now capturing watchtowers, as well as outposts. It's all shown on the map.

Additionally, notice how far down the Melding has pushed. That's Thump Dump way up in the northwest corner, butted right up against the Melding.

I have not put time into this yet, but am planning on it. I have an invite available, who wants it?

Nice. I might go back to playing Engineer again.

I've gotten to the quest where I get to ride the vehicle and stop some guys from making off with some secret manifests. Am I nearing the end of quests?

I never even got that quest. The last one I got is when you first use a thumper. That mission I found super annoying because it took me 30 minutes to figure out how to deploy the thumper and then I sent it back immediately without completing the quest so I had to spend another 15 minutes building my own. Haven't played since then.

I found the structure of this game pretty confusing when playing solo, not really sure what you're supposed to do in terms of PvE after that.

Oh yeah, got my Locust chopper in game now. Sweet!

Very disappointed. Began downloading the patch last night prior to sleeping, the patch encountered errors and need redone. 9hrs later (granted my computer fell asleep after 4) the patch is only half way completed. Wonder if I'll be able to play tonight...
EDIT: Must have been a slow morning, finished now :).
EDIT2: Anything I've ever said about the recon being underpowered, just ignore that. If anything the Recon frame is now OP. The same bolt action sniper, I'd been using previously, underwent an severe overhaul: Clip: 5->17, Fire rate: Bolt action-> Semi-auto, Resonating Bolts (Essentially exploding rounds): 3 (firing fast as possible)->at least 17.
Utterly annihilated a Drop Pod in a single clip, it felt good :D.

This looks fun, any spare invites left? I signed up for the beta for this a long time ago but haven't heard anything.

Bleh. Found some Ferrite-772 earlier, but it's gone now. It looks like different instances are no longer populated with the same nodes. (You can tell I haven't played much since 2 major patches ago.)

master0: PM me the email address you want me to send the invite to.

master0: PM me your email, and I'll get you an invite.

So I just discovered the tech tree. I unlocked a few things with XP but I can't seem to enable/equip them. How do I do this?

There's not any real orientation or tutorial content in the game yet - Red5 has said they're holding off on building the tutorials until things are more finalized, so they don't have to keep re-creating that content every time they change stuff. This makes sense, but can definitely lead to frustration for new players.

The next big milestone patch is focused on PVE content, though they snuck some additional stuff into the "Firefall fest" one over the weekend. So, in addition to thumping, and dynamic events like Crystite Tornadoes we've had for a while, the Chosen will now capture watchtowers and outposts. If you leave a drop pod alone long enough, they'll reinforce there, and eventually build up to having a Warbringer warp in, with defensive turrets and a lot more Chosen. Losing towers or outposts to Chosen will speed up their reinforcement process, which can ultimately lead to an invasion of Copa (I think this means that invasions will no longer happen on server day 3, but don't know this for a fact).

There's also PVP stuff, and you can now queue for multiple tiers and game types, which should make finding a match easier. Matchmaking is still a little rough, but I've enjoyed that side of the game far more than I thought I would.

It's not intuitive or explained anywhere yet, but you change your equipment right now in the battleframe garage - the same place you can spend your XP. On the main screen of the garage, you'll have your battleframe slots listed on the left. Select the one you want to change the loadout for (if you only have one frame, it will be selected by default). One the frame is selected, you click on the large copy of your player model on the right - arms for primary/secondary weapons, chest for special abilities and plating, legs for servos and jumpjets, etc. It's unlikely to be an issue in Tier 1, but as you are making choices about gear, you're also being forced to balance the CPU / Power / weight limitations of your frame. This will make a little more sense when you hit Tier 2 and crafting opens up - you may find a mineral that will create an amazing primary weapon, but it uses up a lot more power and is extremely heavy, which means that some of your other abilities have to remain at the default, weaker version.

I'm happy to group up and do orientation / escort / bodyguard duty for any of our newer folks if I'm around. Steam link's in my sig, and I'm "Dimmerswitch" in-game, as well.

Finally got to play again last night for a bit, back to square one as I hadn't played since they wiped off the previous characters. The world seems to have changed a whole lot, feels like they moved the archlight farther away, there are a few more mushroom/like rock formations in front of Copa. All in all, it was fun but didn-t play much, will try to log in during the week.

Thanks cube for the invite. It's gonna take a while to download, but looks like fun. Any advice for a new player? I heard something about snipers, their my preferred playing style. Hit me up if you want to group or something.

I would go here to check out the classes/frames. Recon (Sniper) can be difficult outside of pvp (even inside pvp, head shots are nearly impossible to get), but are still fun. For starters, I would pick the Assault or the Engineer and go from there.

Now that Chosen will fortify and reinforce dynamically, it's possible for two Warbringers to end up awfully close.

[Edit to add: not sure I'm going to drop advanced thumpers without Goodjers around, any more. Lost my last one (was reviving our BioTech, and the rest of the squad let a parade of exploders in on the other side. Went from 50% to destroyed in about two seconds. And boy howdy are advanced thumpers expensive to replace now.]

Damn I left it installing overnight but that didn't work it seemed. Ah well, shouldn't take that long. I suppose I'll roll an engie first.

Engineer is fun if you enjoy turret placement. I really enjoy that aspect. Turrets are also great for when you're low on health and getting chased by monsters. Just drop a few turrets to cover your tail while you escape.

Another patch just dropped, get it before you want to jump in. It gave me an error saying I wasn't eligible for a 'binary diff patch' and that I would have a full patch.

Oh, it's only 50.88 MB. Huge improvement for Red 5 there.

EDIT: And a nice little graphic of where they're going with development when loading and a splash screen when done loading. And I can send beta invites from in game. Nice!

And Dimmer, I accidentally deleted you from my friends list. I sent another one, so hopefully you see that when you log in.

ACCIDENTALLY. Sure.

Alright finally got some time into the game, got a few questions. I played the main missions up to a point where I investigated a bandit camp. No more missions after that, so I'm guessing that's all there is main story wise. This leaves me at a bit of a loss on what to do. Wandering around to fight the chosen can be fun, and I tried killing this tornado once. Didn't really work... Did a couple thumper missions, but I'm tier 1 and there's nothing really good to build at the moment. Do I need to grind a bit to get to tier 2 for more stuff to do or is that not ready?

Thoughts on the game. One it's really pretty, a non fantasy setting like this is fairly rare and it makes things feel nice. Two, water is sort of silly and lethal. Three, traveling around is a bit annoying when the distances are large. Four jet packs like coop make all games better. Five gliders are pretty damn neat too. Six, I can't aim down my sights cause the muzzle flash just blocks everything. Seven people seem quite nice in beta, got some help when a chosen controlled tower stopped my noob mission from moving forward.

Nice game but seems like it needs more stuff. Although I do love the dynamic nature of the combat. Feels like rift a bit, just more fun.

master0 wrote:

Welcome to a closed beta. More stuff is what they add as they make the game.
