Cartoon watchers with jobs

Ventures Bros halloween special airs tonight on cartoon network. They'll probably cancel it and air it January for no reason. 11:30 ET is the air time which I believe is 8:30 PT.

Muchas gracias, el diablo.

Seriously, is nobody watching Young Justice? Did anyone else see that?

Was there a new episode after the big rescue? I love this show more than Tron: Legacy but the schedule is seriously messed up now.

Adventure Time episode "I Remember You", just amazing and made me cry.
Please save the Ice King.

edit: if you wanna cry, you're gonna need to watch a lot of Adventure Time and read the wiki a little bit so you're really familiar with the Land of Ooo.

Is this last year's xmas episode?

Spoiler:

The one where you see the videos before he was the Ice King?

No, it's a follow up to that involving the Ice King and Marceline. Seriously tear-jerker stuff to.

Episode Spoilers:

Spoiler:

It hit home for me because I've had to deal with family members who have Alzheimer and probably will again. It's absolutely devastating when someone you love doesn't even know who you are.

How have I not heard of this!? Good thing I already set up my DVR to record any new Venture Bros. but seriously, I watch enough CN that I'm shocked this wasn't advertised more heavily.

Grenn wrote:

See what? I saw that CN aired two episodes and kept the next two episodes titled on Comcast but replaced them with How To Train Your Dragon instead, delaying all of them until January. I've not gotten any recordings on my DVR since then.

No, I jaught up with it a while back and really couldn't believe where it's going. Nobody else I know seems to watch. Really want to talk about M'Gann's recent bout with Kaldur and was getting silence

I haven't watch the last few young justice episodes because of the stupid scheduling of CN. But what I have seen was great. I might just watch the episodes I have and rewatch everything once the season is done. Also TMNT, Green Lantern, and Star Wars are good this season.

Well you got me at least. But I'm afraid any discussion would be just be spoiler space because of all the AWESOME! Seriously, the time skip and new status quo just adds so many layers and depth to their version of the DCU.

And the pacing and continuity is incredible (except for when episodes are aired far apart) plots that are hinted at take a long, tension filled time to resolve but when they do, it has great impact and outcomes that trigger actual change and growth in the characters. Pretty much unheard of for any "kids" show nowadays.

Only ones similar I can think of in recent years were Justice League Unlimited, that Spider-man cartoon, Gargoyles (obvious reasons) and Exo Squad (best long term storytelling in a show meant to sell toys).
Honourable mention goes to Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future whose last episode ended on a cliffhanger, completely changed the status quo and was my first time hearing someone cuss out loud on a kids show. Blew my mind at the time.

Double post. Sorry.

About that encounter between Mea'gan and Kal'dur, we still don't know the outcome of that yet. He could recover in time, or worse, be more "determined" in his immediate goal, losing sight of the "big picture". Which ever the case, "Tigeress" is most likely now on her own for the time being and it's going to be tense to see how she handles things.

I know. And I don't know if it was a conscious decision or if I was imagining things, but after that "confrontation" she seemed smaller. Like the animators drew her that way based off the consequences of her actions. Almost like her unconscious was making her appearance fit her new outlook since she can shape change.

Hmmm turns out I'm two episodes behind on Young Justice. I love the show but the scheduling is killing it for me. Time to catch up.

I honestly don't know what to think. Some of the earlier plotting was pretty rote, and you could see it coming. But the last few (sporadic) episodes have really turned things up a notch. I know Peter David's written a few of these. I wonder if they haven't brought him in on a more than freelance basis.

Peter David only wrote one episode this season and of course it's the one with Impulse. The only other episode he did was the episode with Secret and Harm last season. Weisman still does the major workload of the writing which I'm mostly thankful for.

I've been following the tie-in comic that DC puts out monthly and that too is written by Weisman so it's all in continuity but you don't have to read it to follow along what goes on in the TV series.

It does flesh out some background, since the current arc takes place one month before Season 2. Stuff such as how Superman and Superboy seem to be on much better terms when Superman left Earth with the rest of the League 16, why Beast Boy calls Miss Martian "Sis", hints of what the status between Nightwing and Zatanna is like after the timeskip, confirmation that Captain Atom has been operating as leader of the League even before the big 16 leave and why the alien partners are who they are instead of...say...Brainiac.

Holy sh*t, what a couple of episodes to miss.

@Falchion

What is the status of Nightwing and Zatanna?

Grenn wrote:

That's actually the most complicated to answer of those questions.
I highly recommend picking up the comic itself to really find out as there are a two scenes with a couple of beats and reactions by others that should be seen to get the full "impact", and to realize that while it tells you two things about the status of Nightwing and Zatanna, they don't tell you everything.

You can pick up the digital version of the comic from Comixology - goes for $1.99. I mean digital comics? My whole collection on a single device or web browser? We really are living in the future.

But aside from that the two scenes in question are:

Spoiler:

It's morning on December 1st and we see an out of uniform Nightwing on a video call with Wally and Artemis. They wish him a happy birthday, then they notice a freshly dressed blonde step out of the bedroom. Artemis recognizes her as Bette Kane from when Dick and herself used to attend Gotham High, but before she can burt out Bette's name, he cuts the call. Dick and Bette talk about his age and how she's the "older woman" but not by much. Bette doesn't seem to know who Dick actually is nor his name at this point, but catches on quick to him attending Gotham High as her junior when she was there. They flirt more but both run off to work.

*I'm not doing the panel in question with the last line justice. Lets just say that not for the work thing, additional birthday...celebrations would have commenced.
*Bette Kane is also known as the former Teen Titan Firebird in the normal old comic DCU. She appears in season 1 of Young Justice in the episode where Artemis starts attending Gotham High and Robin takes a photo of them together. Bette is seen in the background talking to Barbara Gordon (Batgirl) who is also a senior at the time.

Next scene is Nightwing at "work" about to conduct a mission briefing at Mount Justice, when the Zeta tube starts up and both Rocket and Zatanna drop by. Zee strolls up to Dick in front of everyone and plants a huge long lip-lock on him. Both Wonder Girl and Lagoon Boy are shocked/surprised, while Miss Martian is too but has enough mind to cover Beast Boy's eyes. There is a close-up on Batgirl alone giving a knowing(?) look. Zee whispers in Dick's ear her birthday greeting calling him "Boy Wonder". Dick's only response is to whisper back "Say it backwards".

Rocket breaks them up and kisses Nightwing on the cheek while asking how he is still friends with all his exes, to which he says while glancing over to Zatanna, that that is his superpower. Rocket and Zatanna leave for the Watchtower, Robin (Tim Drake) makes his leave too and Nightwing carries on with the mission brief.

*What we do know from all this is that Nightwing and Zatanna were involved during the 5 year skip. While they have since broken up, they still remain...close.
*Nightwing actively dates other girls, with or without them knowing his full identity, including former schoolmates.
*That is a seriously mysterious look from Batgirl. It's not surprised or angry or even a smile. More like she knows more about what's going on here than what we are seeing and is accepting of that knowledge.
*There is a parting glance of disapproval from Robin at Nightwing's back as he leaves at the end of the scene. It's like he too knows more of what we are seeing but that he's not accepting of that knowledge.

That might be worth picking up.

I would be re-miss to provide additional background that in the old comic DCU that Young Justice seems to adapt story plots from, Barbara Gordon and Dick Grayson were also involved on and off for some time when they were Batgirl and Robin, with Barbara being slightly older there as well.

7 years (more or less, because, comics) would pass during which Babs would semi-retire to get her degree, be crippled and confined to a wheelchair by the Joker, re-establish herself as the superhacker Oracle, personally hand over her mantle as Batgirl to a newcomer (Cassandra Cain) and directly train the third Batgirl after that (Stephanie Brown, first seen in this latest episode of Young Justice Season 2. She's the captured blonde girl in purple who questions Robin. Her name appears in the credits).

Dick Grayson would never finish school, change his callsign to Nightwing at the advice of Superman, lead the Teen Titans and nearly marry one of them (Starfire), return to Gotham to help train Tim Drake as Robin, reconnect with Barbara and actually propose to her during or just before were he takes over as Batman when Bruce Wayne is missing and presumed dead.

That's all old hat. What I like about Young Justice and also JLU was that they accepted the premise and then made it their own, like watching the lives of Earth-7 or something. I like it when they mix it up. I still think that the possible Batman/Wonder Woman romance was the coolest.

Agreed, especially when they take the seeds of what came before and build something new with it. Young Justice really gets that balance right as opposed to...most of the Nu52 DCU. Take Roy Harper for example, having there be a clone who is (sorta) more stable and be the father as compared to the original who gets the shiny arm was a great move far better than the version currently running around in the comics.

Anyway my trust is in Weisman and his team of writers to continue to deliver awesome, when CN gets around to figuring it out and letting them do so I mean.

See? This is the conversation I wanted to have weeks ago!

Thanks for the link to the young justice comic, I wanted to start actually reading the series, but my comic book store stopped carrying it, then I moved.
Best part, $2 is actually the price I think comics should have.
I've been hesitant to start buying episodes of any show on Amazon (forget iTunes), cause I might start doing it too much and I have a good memory for cartoons.

I still have trouble accepting ANY April O'Neil who isn't a buxom auburn-haired journalist wearing a tight yellow jumpsuit. But I only saw the first episode.

Did anybody catch the season finale of Adventure Time (The Lich)? Whoa, what an ending. (I really really hate how they always cut to black so damn fast).

Spoiler:

It's obvious the Lich is either trying to destroy all reality or stop the time waves so that everything is frozen forever (not original, but then again, neither is destroying all of existence).

The new Green Lantern episodes are apparently part two of season one (composed of 26 episodes in two 13-episode arcs).
I really like the fighting now. The romance sub-plot is stupid beyond reason though. "You love me and I love you. Let's break up." Can't wait to see how the Aya sub-plot unfolds.

Ultimate Spider-Man continues to be good.

Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes is canceled and will be replaced by a movie-verse tie-in. I hate you so damn much right now Disney/Marvel. I really wanted to see the end of the Surtur arc.

I was honestly surprised it didn't happen sooner. I loved that show, but nobody in the comics business is going to pass up a movie tie-in just because something's well done.

Grenn wrote:

Hah! So shoot, what else you noticed that you like where they are going or want to see backstory of?
Me, I've been wondering about Wonder Girl. The Wonder Woman of Young Justice (Earth-16) seems to be significantly different from what we usually see; alot more hard edged but truth to be told, we haven't seen much of her because Wonder Girl seems to be her first sidekick.
We do know that she didn't approve of Robin but don't know her thoughts on how Superman was treating Superboy.

From the tie-in comic, we know that Wondergirl (Cassie Sandsmark?) is not the newest recruit - that's Blue Beetle (who has a crush on her it seems) but she seems to be the most rookie of the lot. I do wonder how much training Wonder Woman gave her and if it involved a stint with the Amazons.

I think issues only go down to that price after a month since it comes out. It's usually $3 during the month of release.

I like the idea of a harder Wonder Woman. Although this Wonder Girl seems kinda green so its kinda funny to see her in contrast with a hardass Batgirl.

Spoiler:

I'm very interested in seeing what happened to Beast Boy's mom. Apparently Queen Bee had something to do with it. That, and I really want to see Nightwing tear M'Gann a new one. What she was doing wasn't cool before she did it to Kaldur and I'd like to see some consequences besides self-loathing.

Also, is Enchantress not super hot?

I'm not sure how new this tidbit is, but Hulu has attained quite the cartoon collection.

I noticed that not too long ago the 2nd season of Transformers Prime was added to netflix and have been watching it on there. Glad to see the season is fully done. I've been waiting to watch it all at once.

And I just finished season 2. Man, why did they do that!? Season 3 (this spring) can't come soon enough. It'd be even better if each episode went up on netflix soon after airing, but I know that won't happen.

Young Justice and Green Lantern are being cancelled. I hope we at least get a end to the invasion arch and wrap up of the antimonitor.

Hey, Voltron Force on Netflix is OK so far.
My kids started watching it. I usually surf the iterwebz while they're veg'n. I watched this.
Only two episodes in so far though.
