3DS Catch-all

That's the Suda 51 Level-5 mecha game, right? Thinking about, but might be waiting on reviews since I kinda want to focus on Borderlands 2 and Retro Game Challenge this week.

This just reminds me that I was supposed to start 999 a couple weeks ago but never got around to it.

Nah, it's the sequel to the DS game 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors.

Which was totally rad, BTW. I'm looking forward to the sequel, but I can't pick it up right now. Christmas, maybe?

Yeah, I liked 999 and have been looking forward to the sequel, but I don't have the money for it right now. I probably won't be able to get anything until Paper Mario comes out later next month.

That's Liberation Maiden.

Ah. Bah, still need to find a copy of 999 to play.

So the demo for the new Style Savvy game is bizarrely addicting. I'm not sure I'd drop $40 for the full thing, but I'd seriously consider it during a holiday sale.

So I usually just assume these games are shovelware without actually trying them. I saw your post, I saw there was an hour before the debate and was like "You know what? I'm downloading the demo right now. Lets do this."

So I fire it up and have to pick a model. Already I'm out of my element. I have no idea what I'm doing but I went with Lyza because she made a decent joke (at least I hope she was joking).

I decided to go with a Saints Row: The Third look. Pretty much nailed it if I do say so myself.

Annnnnd I came in dead last

- This game is pretty accurate since I'm clearly a fashion noob.
- The UI seemed decent, especially the rotate button which had you slide the stylus left and right.
- Sound effects had a nice amount of umph to them.
- Graphics were all over the place. Some of the clothes seemed low poly and poorly textured but when the model was on the cat walk the lighting and effects helped to boost it. Still, the game isn't doing much rendering so I was expecting more.
- Clothes had a price tag but I didn't really see how it came into play. Like I could give the model some expensive underwear but no one ever see's it. Does that count towards the fashion? Does it detract because no one sees it and I wasted money? Is there a "frugal" mode where you try and make ballin outfits on a budget in the real game?
- Even though I was playing it as a joke, it was strangely addicting. Like after I lost I wanted to try again.
- I also decided that the reason I came in dead last was because the judges were racist. My Saint Row: The Third outfit was stylin son.

What place did you come in Clock?

Fashion noob indeed.

I also got 4th, and I had a cute outfit. But, like you, I was strangely interested in giving it another shot.

I downloaded the demo for two reasons: first, the game was published by Nintendo, and while they publish and even develop some real losers, their involvement is still enough to make me take notice; second, I read an interview with the developers today where they talked about how they wanted their game to help people understand fashion better, which is a really interesting goal.

But yeah, color me genuinely interested in the full product, especially with the sim aspects thrown into the mix.

We need a fashion pro to download the demo and show us what's up. I think I saw Minarchist give suit advice in another thread...

I came in first on my first try. I tried to match the theme instead of making something I liked.

That's the thing: I did try to match the theme. I guess I just don't know what a bold look is.

I slap together web pages for the Fashion section of a major shopping network and I couldn't tell you what that means. Sounds like the same sort of descriptive fluff people use for everything. How a movie is "Heartwarming, invigorating, stunning", or a video game is "visceral". These are horrible descriptive words because they give a broad meaning that could be used for just about anything. "Bold" is that sort of term, but for fashion.

Alright, I'm at a proper computer. It told me Always a Lady and hinted at "Elegant." So, I threw my standards away and tried to think of something that would be at home in a modern gathering and early color motion picture just about equally.

I chose "Latisha" who hinted at being a diamond in the rough. Diamond? Elegant! It looked like a clue.

Then I went for a dress with a pink camisole and expensive jacket to make sure my layers were covered. It said to do layers.

Purse was small and expensive. Her gloves were chosen the same way. Shoes were small with big heels and a big price tag.

Hair: I went for long with curls, made up intentionally. Nothing messy, and nothing to wear to go jogging in. Then I chose a not-pale blond, and it suggested pumpkin colored highlights so I added those.

The bottom makeup option was the only one that hinted at being appropriate for socialites, so I chose that. This was the end result.

The clues seemed to be spread thin: A few choice words here and there mixed in with a lot of flavor text. I was trying to treat it more like a Carmen Sandiego game than anything to do with style.

Fire Emblem: Awakening

Animal Crossing: New Leaf

No release dates for either but Reggie said "early next year".

"New Leaf"? I thought they were calling it "Jumping Out"?

Fire Emblem looks great. At least the 5 seconds of grid gameplay. I have no idea what to make of the anime.

If Tom Nook is still your ruler in spite of being the mayor we'll know that he's basically an oligarch.

Wasn't that just the English translation of the Japanese title? I'm not surprised they went with something different.

I will always get on board with more Fire Emblem, I can't get enough of that series. Shadow Dragon on DS was the best by far, so I hope they use that remake as the template for this new one.

I finished Code of Princess during my move, since I lack the interwebs for now. I enjoyed it, but it's not hooking me the way I thought it would. I don't think I'll wind up doing most of the bonus quests, I've already moved back to NSMB 2. If Atlus does a sequel, I'd like to see a wider move set so you're not just repeating the same combos all the time, and less annoying voices in the game (seriously, if Zozo says "here's a curse" one more time, I'm going to smash my 3DS).

Guild 01 is apparently being released piecemeal in the US (I think it was a single purchase in Japan). Liberation Maiden is out today! It may not be very good, but I'm excited by the prospect of getting my hands on the other titles soon.

Wait. I think that's the first time I've ever heard that. Mostly I hear the opposite. What did I miss?

Wait. I think that's the first time I've ever heard that. Mostly I hear the opposite. What did I miss?

What I really liked about it was the interface. It made good use of the two screens, it sported single-use mid-battle save points (something the Gamecube/Wii games DESPERATELY needed), and the visuals were a solid upgrade from the GBA games. I didn't make much use of the reclassing feature, but it seemed like it had potential if you really wanted to tune your squad with specific characters.

I'm also not sure where you heard the opposite, the game got really high scores when it released.

The main criticism I heard is that there were far too many characters and units (long battles as well) and that the game was easy. I played a couple levels and then moved on. Just wondering if it's worth revisiting.

All Fire Emblem games have tons and tons of units, it's to offset the fact that if a unit dies they're gone for good. You'll only find yourself with an overwhelmingly large roster if you obsessively restart to keep all your units alive (which I did).

The long battles are made easier by the single-use save points, which other FE games didn't have and they had some equally lengthy battles. This also shouldn't be a huge issue since you can just suspend the system and resume later.

The difficulty of the game will depend on how much you abuse your Lord and your pre-promoted units, and your familiarity with FE games. Generally FE games give you one or two units early on who are already promoted, and yes they will wipe the floor with every enemy they encounter early on. You'll be screwing yourself in the long run if you abuse this though, because later in the game when you're facing promoted units you won't have enough of your own to handle them. If you're an FE veteran, you'll know this and most of the game might be easy, but I didn't find it to be any more or less difficult than any other FE game I've played.

Personally I think the FE games are the best strategy games on a Nintendo system. Lots of people will praise Advance Wars more highly, but I think FE has more tense battles (due in large part to permanent unit death) and rewards proper planning and unit tactics more. That's my 2 cents, and I recommend you revisit it.

Definitely interested in the new Fire Emblem.

Never played an Animal Crossing game.

Super excited for Animal Crossing. Being Mayor, is going to be awesome. It means you can force Nook to not be a douche and keep his store open late. YES! Take that you evil raccoon!!

Also, you can SWIM. That's a feature I always wanted to continually never got.

I bought this to show some support and because the video in the eShop was pretty rad. I really haven't jived with 1up's reviews in 2-3 years, either.

I'll post something once I play a bit. It might not be for a few days, I'm in something of a lazy, non-gaming funk.

I agree about Fire Emblem writ-large, BTW. Fire Emblem 7 and 8 would be my two favorite SRPGs were it not for Tactics Ogre. The recent TO port takes that title, but otherwise I find Fire Emblem not only more enjoyable than Advance Wars, but more enjoyable than Disgaea, FFT, etc.

That's why I asked. A couple convincing reviews could talk me into trying it out again while we wait for the 3DS FE. I pray that's not coming in Fall 2013, but I fear it is. Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem are my most anticipated 3DS games.

I'm very curious about Liberation Maiden, but mostly because it has a Mech. It looks to be more of an arcade game, so I'll wait to see what the forum reports on it.
