Battlefield 3 Catch-All

The youtube notes state that there's a new 'scavenger' mode. You start with a pistol and have to get your gear from your surroundings.

Didn't even look at that, but that's the rumblings I heard.

I wouldn't mind seeing CQD from CQ on bigger areas added, too. I think it would be less of a game of ring around the rosies if it was spread out a bit more.

Hmm, ending says "All-New crossbow" Not, "new weapons including crossbow"...

So one new weapon? Some new maps, new vehicles and some new assignments? Come on, that can't be it can it?

Sounds like a nice expansion to me. There are plenty of existing weapons I still haven't really played much with.

Blog update, too.

Fight for survival in the new Scavenger mode
Inspired by the earthquake theme and setting, the new Scavenger mode is a frantic hunt for survival. A new concept to Battlefield, lost soldiers start equipped with only a knife, one grenade, and sidearm and must search the environment for more powerful weapons to increase their chance at surviving and eventually winning.

In Scavenger mode, weapons spawn in predetermined locations all over the map, so it pays to learn the map to stand a fighting chance. The particular weapons spawning at these points however have an element of randomness to them, so in order to survive a Scavenger round you will have to explore as much of the map as possible. Sticking together as a team means you might be able to keep enemies from claiming these few and valuable weapons that can turn the tide of a round.

This is not your ordinary Battlefield map. Can you find the hardware you need to survive in Scavenger mode in this post-earthquake setting?

In all other respects, Scavenger behaves like a Conquest game. That is, the two teams battle for control over a number of bases and need to bleed their opponent down to zero tickets. The addition of the desperate weapon situation at the start of the mode is further underlined by the scarcity of ammunition – most weapons that you find in the destroyed environment have only one mag available. In the aftermath of the earthquake, every shot counts. Apart from this new Battlefield experience, the expansion pack also supports all game modes from the base game plus the highly popular Gun Master mode originally introduced in Battlefield 3: Close Quarters

Can someone except my invite to the Premium Platoon?

Makes me wonder if EA has formed a policy on player 'whining' and negative press meaning they tell their developers to 'just fix it and make them shut up'.

If it messes up IR vision on vehicles, it might be something that's more of just a curiosity than a useful thing. But they may be making a bigger deal than necessary.

Seems the bigger issue was the potential problems with having people install random crap from the internet to make their game prettier. If someone started loading up the install with hacks, it'd be difficult to fish out the genuine dupes with actual hackers. This is the best of both worlds, people get their pretty game, and DICE don't have to worry about dodgy 3rd party mods to the game.

As I understand it, that time between the game rendering and displaying things to the screen is where a lot of hacks work. So that's where a lot of anti-cheat stuff focuses as well.

So I can't really blame them for not endorsing some of these things.

After seeing how much effect the filters had taken some environments I'm very happy that they are allowing people to disable them. Really all I wanted was to boost the saturation of the greens in the environment.

I hope this gives them some info on how far to push the filters in BF4.

So I noticed something strange on a 24 player server last night. All of the transport vehicles were all DPV's. Is this the case on the smaller maps? Is this (smaller maps) where the A-10 is hiding as well?

Depending on whether it's CQ Large or Small, vehicles will be different. And the A10 is only on Rush.

Holy crap. Ok. So what else is hidden in the rush maps?

Or maybe not:

MikaelKalms[/url]]After discussing this further with my colleagues, we have decided to not implement this feature. This is the studio’s take on this matter, and I support this decision:

"As a studio, it is extremely important for us at DICE to have a unique identity in our games, not only from a gameplay perspective, but visually as well. While we appreciate that some players might want a slightly different look to the game, we are proud of the visual identity of Battlefield 3 and do not wish to change it."

I apologize for getting anybody’s hopes up, and if you have any further questions on this subject, I will refer back to the above statement.

That's a bit disappointing Scratched.

Having seen what the game looks like without the filter I feel like overall everything looks better, especially Metro. I browsed the forums that was posted on and while I wasn't surprised how angry they were I still think people are crying too much.

The only thing I am most annoyed with in BF3 is how far apart all the DLC is. I played for the first time in weeks last night and really I felt like my desire to play is almost gone. I had fun, but I kept thinking that December is a long time to wait for new content especially when I already don't play with GWJ people much anymore.

I keep meaning to play more BF3, but there's just SO much out right now. It's probably overall still my favorite game to play with other people right now.

I should be playing with Rybificus on Thursday night and I welcome anyone else to join us.

I think we'll play sometime around 6-8 PST.

This is pretty much where I am right now. I'm still enjoying other games and I jumped back in for a match the other night and it was just ok. Nothing to really make me want to jump back and play it again. Kinda wish they'd release all the dlc now in one big update and integrate it all together so we could all just go and have some fun before we move on for good.

Mocking those of us without power due to Hurricane Sandy. Bastards!

Might be an excuse for me to start playing again. It's funny, I feel obliged to play this since I bought premium, rather than actually feeling like I want to play it. If I had my time over, I think I would have not bought premium and let it die. I'm not sure. Maybe I just need to jump in and feel it again.

I'm still pretty keen to keep playing, but I'm probably going to wait for Aftermath, I think I'll enjoy it a lot more than Armoured Kill.

It's probably blasphemy, but I feel like Battlefield plays best in mid-sized, slightly more cluttered levels with a focus on infantry, the wide open levels are just frustrating, being balanced around everyone having access to vehicles, making playing anything but an engineer a chore.

I think that's why I never managed to shake the feeling that overall I enjoyed BC2 a lot more than I'm enjoying BF3. It was an infantry game first, with vehicles in a support role, even in levels like Heavy Metal.

Whatever the case, I don't regret my Premium purchase, I might not love the game quite as much as I wanted to, but I still enjoyed what I did play, and I have some hope for a resurgence with the next two content packs.

Knowing that BF4 will be on current gen consoles and a modern setting again makes me feel like it will just be BF3: The Expansion With Tweaks. If you want to design a Battlefield for consoles, design the whole game around the hardware in mind like BC2 and name it BC3. But when it's a numbered release, I expect a major leap. I would be so damn excited if DICE announced that BF4 was for next gen consoles.

Why assume that it's current gen consoles? I assume if it's coming out next year, it's really next gen.

I thought I read that it was for 360/PS3 but Googling around it seems that I was mistaken.

I regret my premium purchase. Even if the next expansions look great, I know that I will still be annoyed by flashlights, the sun, the vignetting, the emulated lens filter, the inability to easily play with friends, the lack of voice chat, the regression in destruction, the inability to change loadout on death and the lack of design focus. I also know that it will just be people zerging to fill up their XP bars. Because of this, I probably won't even play the next expansions even though I already paid for them.

I played for over 100 hours and enjoyed myself but all the small annoyances and lack of features really add up. I mean, you can't even chat after a match. Crazy stuff happened. sh*t talk most ensue and props must be given dammit! I'd rather have some features instead of a lame mode no one plays after a week.

It's also disheartening to think about Battlefield 4. One of the reasons BF3 feels so disjointed to me is the unfocused design. Do we know for sure it's a modern setting as well? I thought the details about it were pretty slim at this point.
