Borderlands 2 Catch-All

Haven't seen this mentioned before, but mission givers are an impatient lot. Walk up to an NPC with a mission for you, and instead of accepting it, just wait with the mission text open.

Scooter has all the best lines. Claptrap has a few good responses, Moxxie has one or two amusing ones. Everyone else? Boring. Except that Zed/Marcus/Lilith/Mordicai/Claptrap all asked if Moxxie had said anything about them recently...

Random NPCs ask that too.

Fixed.

Spoiler:

Are we having a Staring Contest? I will win. I am good at staring.

Open to trade/gift.

Hit level 50 yesterday. Levels 48-50 were painful, I was getting my ass kicked pretty consistently by anything with a badass in front of its name. A couple of golden keys over the weekend helped, but it was still rough. then I got to Saturn. Yup, no chance of getting past him, so I figured I'd go do some farming.

Someone mentioned a Bee Shield to me before, and my current shield was crap, so off I go. 30 minutes later I'm the proud owner of a level 50 Bee Shield. "Cool, let's see how this thing works", I thought to myself as I headed to the shooting range. Whipped out my trusty 4019x18 damage shotgun that I've been replying on for the last 5 levels and boom, 1200 damage. "Well, that's significantly less that before," I think, "what the hell?" Oh, wait, there's a little red "k" after the damage number. Yup, that was 1200k, 1.2 million, damage in a single shot.

Yeah... Bee Shield is kind of spectacular.

Spoiler:

Probably too good actually, feels broken. Switched back to normal mode and killed Terramorphous solo a few times without breaking a sweat.

Well you can't get hit at all. So if you're on Gaige or Axton, yeah it can be pretty awesome. On other characters it's awesome until you get hit and then it's really a terrible "shield."

Of course I haven't hit 50 yet. I used the level 26/29 versions when finishing up the first playthrough. But I quickly had to give them up starting TVHM, when almost every other shield I would run across had 4-5x the shielding.

The level 50 one might hold up better, at least until DLC raises the level cap.

I'm more interested in getting my hands on one of these:

Ah, if I get hit I just duck behind some cover for 2 seconds and it's fully charged again. Gunzerking with 2 shotguns and the Bee Shield is... ridiculous!

Yeah, that's the one I want. I'm at 20 something seraph. It's going to take a long time. Haven't been able to kill the second boss yet. I've pretty much resigned myself to duping weapons. There's really no other way to get those bosses. Also, when I eventually get 120 seraph, I'll be buying something that none of my friends have and sharing it. They designed these to be duplicated because the time investment is just ridiculous.

I plan on at least killing the 1st boss for the crystals each night if I can get enough people together.

Played this quite a bit over the weekend and got my Mechromancer up to 40. I have a love/hate thing going with this class. When you have a couple hundred Anarchy stacks she trucks along like nothing you've ever even dreamed of. Then you get bonked off a ledge or a barrel explodes next to you and there's nothing nearby to respawn from (and with that much Anarchy stacked, you need something close in order to be able to hit it).

Suddenly you're nigh worthless. You've built your kit around closing to point blank ranges and mowing fools down, regenerating 80% of your massive shield every time you pop someone, only now you can't risk getting that close because you'll die before you can get a kill. This isn't the end of the world in most circumstances; you can always warp to an easier zone and farm up some stacks if you're having a truly rough go of it. Unfortunately it's the kiss of death if you happened to die in a boss fight. No stacks equals no kill for many bosses when solo.

I haven't done any of the boss farming with my 50 that you folks have so diligently done, but she's clearly going to be a lackluster choice for that. Anarchy isn't built for playing the game in 10 minute chunks.

Yeah, the Mechromancer can be a lot of fun, but

Suddenly you're nigh worthless.

seems to be a common theme for both her left and right skill tress (as it would be for any class built around on-kill skills).

I power leveled mine to the mid 30s using the BFF tree, and solo or in a small group that tree is amazing. However, even with cooldown reduction skills and gear you have a VERY long wait before you can be useful again if you can't keep landing kill shots. Other than some survivability boosts EVERY skill point goes into making your robot more powerful, so you have very little in terms of offensive tools. As such, when it came time to play in a full group of four I very quickly decided to go back to my face melting, crowd controlling siren. I'll probably keep playing the Mechro solo or in small groups, but I'll have to look into the middle tree if I ever find myself playing that character in a full group again.

Crinkle: have you tried balancing Anarchy with the ricochet skill from the left tree? I was talking with a friend about Mechromancer builds and he was lauding the Anarchy stacks, and when I expressed some doubt about trying them myself he answered saying that's where the ricochet skill comes in handy.

Crinkle: Have you tried playing assassin, to at least get a sense of relative worthlessness? (/mild sarcasm)

Heh, yeah, I abandoned a level 18 assassin alt to play my Mechro instead. In the hands of a truly skilled player he can be a godly powerful sniper, but despite the fact that I enjoy that play style I just don't have the twitch skills required to not feel useless.

I ground it out to 50, got a bee shield, and if i'm in a group, his burst can be ridiculous, but man it was a tough road to 50.

My first character was an Assassin, and I didn't run into the trouble everyone else did getting to 50, as detailed in this post on my build. Maybe I had better luck with good pistol drops or something.

I will say that the second playthrough has been laughably easy with the Mechromancer, whereas with Zero I could actually die without being careless (since I'm not a fan of the sniping playstyle). Didn't play any of the other classes, so I'll have to take everyone else's word for it that he's the wimpiest class.

My build at 40 looks like this:
IMAGE(http://rharvey.home.die.net/forumstuff/Mechro40.gif)
Except it's 4 points in the "restore shields on kill" skill in far right tree and fewer in the "more Anarchy stacks" skill. The skill calculator is broken and won't let you allocate more than a point to the restore skill. Which makes things wildly different. Restoring 80% shields on every kill is f*cking ridiculous.

Couple of one-point wonders in there to take advantage of my Anarchy class mod.

This class is really well suited to taking some points all over the place, since none of the high-tree abilities have much of a wow factor. I have respec'd many, many times to see if any of the trees play better than they appear, and this build is definitely optimum for my playstyle of running in and shooting dudes in the face with a revolver. With the last 10 points I'll finish the shield boost and then peg her movespeed-on-kill skill, then dump the rest into max Anarchy stacks.

I'm not going to clean up every single possible mission, but I am trying to finish most of them at least before finishing the game (I think I'm at the end, dunno). I'm at 60 hours and on my first play through. I'm looking forward to playing a second time and looking for sweet loot (wish the locker was bigger). Still, when I do finish I think I'm going to take a break to play the last two eps of the Walking Dead before starting play #2.

Er, I am using something of a "cheat."

It's the infinite bank glitch. So long as your inventory is overfull (over 27 items), the bank will let you store things in it infinitely (or, at least, larger than I can detect). My biggest worry at this point is for a later update or patch to fix this and kill something like 90% of my loot stash.

Had a good day loot hunting.

Thanks Mantid for the class Mod! Now I just need a few levels to use it...

Gave this a go. It's not bad, but it's still not enough to kill things that aren't in hittable range at any kind of speed. If I was a heavy SMG/LMG spray-and-pray-er I'd probably love it, but I'm almost exclusively a semi-auto Jakobs pistol/rifle whore.

The ricochet ability in the right hand tree (The Nth Degree) is also fairly ineffective. Small targets in clumps already get wasted so fast that you hardly notice them, particularly if Deathtrap is out. The only things that can survive 3 pistol rounds once your Anarchy is stacked up are the big single targets, and it doesn't help with those.

The top-tier abilities are really underwhelming with this character. Which is fine, since there are so many good ones in the early tiers. I definitely recommend slathering the points across all three trees.

I didn't know what it looked like- but I can speak to the fact that it does like to burn some enemies up.

For peeps still gathering their purple stashes, please note that not all of a gun's capabilities immediately show up on the gun card. Sometimes, you have to go by name.

For instance, I picked up a Razrez sniper without any specials, knowing that it had a hidden +100+% critical damage. Sure enough, "+120% Critical Damage" showed up when I equipped it. Jakobs Tumtums also sometimes hide their properties this way. Don't throw away your Tumtums!

So the Bee shield on a Commando is a touch OP. It truly is the easy button.

Also my level 50 gold key treated me real well. Don't have pics but, it was a Dastardly Revolver 15000+ DMG, 15FR, 96.00 ACC, 2.3 Reload, 11RNDs; I had been rocking an 8200dmg revolver for only about 3levels. I have been running fast hard hitting revolvers for both of my play throughs; they are just so satisfying to use.

Push your head into your Tumtum.
Re Bee=overpowered. Did a quick Warrior run this morning. And I mean quick. The first time I fought the warrior on TVHM was extremely touch and go. Twice I had him down to a quarter and twice I ran out of ammo and targets to hit while downed. With the bee... Warrior pops up. Shotgun shotgun shotgun. Warrior pops back down. Warrior pops up. Shotgun shotgun... You get the idea. After four shotgun sessions the baddie croaked and spilled the goodies. Just in time to enjoy breakfast while picking through the vendor trash.

This is a Tumtum Buffalo:

IMAGE(https://dl.dropbox.com/u/16402314/Borderlands%202%20Screenshots/2012-10-23_00001.jpg)

It is one of the most powerful sniper rifles in the game. Arguably, it's the most powerful single-shot sniper rifle, able to OHK pretty much anything short of a Badass on TVHM. It's capable of doing this without Bee damage boosting. With Bee damage boosting, it's ridiculous. It has massive damage as a Buffalo rifle, married to the +180% critical damage modifier for being a Tumtum.

Are those just random drops or are they quest rewards?

Tumtum is a quest reward off Dukino's mom.
