As the official registration has opened (and not finding an existing thread), figured it's time to put up a thread.

PAX Australia

When: July 19th to July 21st 2013
Where: Melbourne, Australia

Official Site: http://www.paxaustralia.com.au/

Registration: http://www.paxaustralia.com.au/regis...
Hotels & Travel: http://www.paxaustralia.com.au/hotel...

Pricing:
Friday Only - $45
Saturday Only - $45
Sunday Only - $45
Three Day Pass - $115

It's worth noting that for non-Aussies who are thinking about coming over, this is going to seem expensive and unfortunately you are correct. Most things in Australia cost more so make sure you take that into account.

If you need advice or help myself or any of the other Aussie goodjers can help you out!

I'll be organising some kind of meetup/drinking session for probably the Saturday night (20th) but more information will be given closer to the date!

Hope to see as many goodjers representing as we can!

UPDATE 1: 30/10/2012
3-Day passes are 90% sold out! http://twitter.com/PAXAus/status/263...

Oh man, definitely interested in this, but it's such a long way off I'll struggle to make the commitment at this stage. Is this the sort of thing where if you don't register early, you don't get in?

Usually. If you really want to go, don't wait to get tickets.

Hmm, I may throw caution to the wind and grab some tickets early then. Absolutely don't want to miss out on the first Ozpax. So consider me there I guess. Who else is coming?

If it does end up selling out (and I'd be surprised if it didn't eventually, even if it doesn't sell out as crazy-fast as PAX Prime this year), I doubt you'll have any trouble selling your tickets to someone that missed out. I'm not entirely sure where I'll be by July next year, but I've followed my own advice and bought a three-day pass anyway

Hmmm... The showgrounds... Not optimal for the size I think this could end up.

Bruce's couch may be available.

Meh. Melbourne =/

It's not our fault that Sydney sucks

I actually quite like Melbourne, although I've only visited twice. I was just hoping PAX would be held in Sydney so I could schedule it around visits home.

Melbourne is so far. Why not Brisbane.

They've heard a rumor that you tend to throw celebratory molotovs when you're overly happy/excited.

I will certainly be attending this and will be keen to meet GWJers for some slap and tickle. My couch and or spare room may be available for the needy.

Cos Melbourne is the best city in Australia! The most event friendly too I suspect.

Not gonna happen for us this year; we're tightening the belt. Gonna be sad to miss all my friends

It's only a two-hour flight! I've done Melbourne to Brisbane and back again in a day for work -- it's really not that bad.

Melbourne seems like the logical choice, I don't have to travel too far at least. Sydney would be nice though, simply because I've never visited there and would like an excuse.

Went there once on business, overrated :).

If I show up, what are the odds of me hooking up with a local hottie like you did when you came to Pax East this year?

Melbourne or Sydney? Or both?

PAX Adelaide I say! We could do with something interesting to do here!

Lived in Melbourne for 4 years, loved it. Sydney for 5 days, overrated ;).

I'm from Adelaide but, yeah, um, it has a lot of churches and parks I guess?

Definitely want in on this. Still the closest I would most likely get to a PAX in years.
I'm due an overseas trip anyway and haven't visited Melbourne since I was a teen too.

But pulling the trigger on the AU$115 3 day pass with still more than 6 months to go is alittle daunting since my work schedule is mostly too fluid to forecast accurately.

*unsure*

Hmmm, hard to say exactly. It'll be the middle of winter for us (such as it is), so all the hotties will be rugged up. That being said, we do have some nice looking gals around

I think you mean PAX RADelaide!

It'd be great if you could make it down Falchion. I want to catch up with the Ozgoodjers as well, but I figure I'll probably get a chance to bump into them eventually in the course of usual country wanderings, but PAX might be a great opportunity to catch up with some adventurous international goodjers as well.

So come on down everyone, we have hardly any poisonous animal deaths these days, so long as you stay inside the designated safe zones!

PAX Australia just tweeted to say that half of the three-day passes have now been sold, so if you haven't got yours, you should get cracking!

Still unable to decide if I can risk buying the 3 day pass...

*foams at the mouth, twitches uncontrollably*

IT IS DONE!

Just finally pulled the trigger on this.

I'm going to PAX baby!!

Grabbed a pair of tickets, one for me and one for the girlfriend. So I guess I'll be there.

Planning on coming in a day early to settle down, see some of the rest of the city, figure out the best route to and from the Showgrounds and the nearby eateries.

Thinking of putting myself up at the Hotel Ibis Melbourne that's along Therry Street. 3 Star, reasonable cost, close to a Tram station that goes direct to the Showgrounds and close to the Queen Victoria Markets for some shopping for the non-gamers back home (me Mum). Any thoughts on this from the locals?

The trams are all over Melbourne, so you shouldn't have a problem there... That's a pretty good location (almost anything in the CBD is a good location really). Quick access to all the important things

Can't speak to the hotel itself, but it seems ok

Ibis is fine. Not amazing, but not a dive. At least according to my non-Melbourne friends who have stayed there. That's the problem with recommending hotels for the city you live in. I never stay in them. I stay at my house. How would I know what is a good hotel in my home town? Actually a mate manages thehttp://www.viewhotels.com.au/st_kild... and could probably rustle up a good rate if you used my name. It will add to your travel time though.

Vic Market will sell you some stupid koala or kangaroo based souvenirs. I prefer the food hall like the borek or the brattwurst stalls.

You are correct with respect to the tram situation. The 57 runs past there on it's way to the Showgrounds. Get out at Epsom Rd - stop 33.

It's also a good pocket of town for cheap eating. It is a pseudo student district and has a lot of varieties of asian cuisine. You also go through Ascot Vale and Newmarket on the way to the showgrounds which has the famous Laksa King and other great eating.

July will be football time and if you want to see an Aussie Rules game, we can try and organise something. Ibis is popular with travelling fans so be ready for that.

July will be COLD as far as Melbourne weather goes. Max temps likely to be 12-14C. Cosplay appropriately.

I would definitely be interested in taking some people to the footy, even if it's not to see the MIGHTY SAINTERS!!
