Borderlands 2 Catch-All

Oooh I think I had that one too. "What Plaything did you bring me today" or something like that. At least that one has red text to indicate that it's 'special.' So far I'm really struggling to understand some of the ideas behind E-Tec weapons.
I want a pistol. A pistol that when I shoot someone takes several seconds to actually hurt them. That would be awesome! Oh, and a rocket launcher. A rocket launcher that has one ideal function! To rain down death upon stationary enemies at short, mid, and long range! As long as they are perfectly spaced. And hold still. Oh and it would help if the ground is flat. And don't give us a range-finder, no, just sort of guesstimate and make the balls kind of floaty so it takes a little while to actually hit. /endrant

How many of these are designed though and how many are randomly generated? Throwing components together randomly you're going to get some stinkers.

But that's just it... as far as I can tell that's how these E-Tec weapons are designed. The E-Tec dart pistols don't do damage on impact and every Plasma Canon I've seen on youtube so far lobs three spheres. One short, one long, and one in the middle.

I get the feeling that these weapons were never playtested in a level appropriate fight or certain E-Tec weapons are meant to be just fun toys while slumming in lower level areas.
Example... If I pull out my Rocket Launcher am I a) facing something big that needs to die NOW! or b) going to nuke those varkid larvae back into the stone-age. If it is b) Then I wouldn't mind reaching for my E-Tec Plasma Canon. If it is a) Why on Earth would I use a weapon that can't be reliably aimed, only has the potential to do full-damage on enemies that are close enough that getting caught in the splash damage is a concern, and on top of that burns more ammo for the privilege?

Firing homing delayed damage darts are HILARIOUS when there's no real danger. Not so much when you REALLY need some of those dudes dead before they lob another grenade.

I don't begrudge them the fun factor... but the way they are presented and the rarity they are given sits in stark contrast to their actual effectiveness in battle. Heck, even the mission that introduces them has you using a 'decent' assault rifle. A bit underpowered, but ultimately effective. They then tell you "E-Tec guns are awesome!" and hand you a pistol that will get you killed if you use it against the enemies you were fighting with the assault rifle.

Seriously though. I'm done ranting. Just like Eridium, it's just another dud draw from the loot bag.

I think before we're too hard on the E-tec guns we should remember what they used to be back in Borderlands 1: even harder to hit with, but with terrible stats all around and no elemental effect.

I've actually used a pistol with slag homing darts to good effect, and I really like the E-tec assault rifles, shotguns and SMGs.

Think I've finally figured out Zer0. Level 48, lots of points in sniper tree, running around with 4 sniper rifles. Corrosive, Ignite, Shock, and a regular. It's amusing if nothing else.

Toss those guns on Gaige, run with Close Enough + Anarchy, and I bet you'll see things pop quickly.

You'll get no argument from me about the assault rifles and shotguns. As I posted I've only just found an SMG and haven't had a chance to use it yet, but if the firing range performance is anything to go by it might replace my Assault Rifle slot! Which makes the pistol, sniper rifle, and Rocket Launcher so perplexing... It would be so simple to 'fix' them.

That's how I roll at lvl 40, and I quite like it.

I really feel like the team overestimated how fun it is to fight Buzzards.

I haven't encountered all of the trouble that others seem to be having with Zer0, other than a slight playstyle adjustment at the start of the second playthrough. I went straight down the Bloodshed tree until I hit the last ability, and then rounded it out with the Sniping tree. Finished at 16/2/27 at level 50.

I focus on critting with pistols and shotguns, with a handful of elemental SMGs to share the ammo load a bit. Painful fights sometimes require me to back off and rocket/snipe, but for the most part I just shoot people in the head until my shield pops, hit Deception, and then either go on a melee kill chain against weaker opponents, or retreat to cover so my shield can regen. Between the Grim skill and an action skill cooldown reduction relic, I generally regain my Deception ability in a handful of seconds. The only time I run into real trouble is in fights where there's no cover, either due to a barren area or a swarm of enemies on all sides. And certain bosses on TVH+ mode which just one-shot me.

Oh.My.God. Do we spoiler easter eggs here? I'll remove if people want me to.

nvm, i spoilered it in case, it's pretty awesome.

Can't decide on my 2nd Assassin tree. I'm all Bloodshed, and then started on the middle. Thought that melee override ability for taking more damage might be good. But yeah the deception one that shows all criticals seems cool too.

Anyway finished the game with Gaige today too. Probably will be playing her in TVHM instead. Went into the last mission at 28 or 29, made it to 30, and then 31 right as the last boss went down. But everything seemed so much easier than with Zer0.

Fun part was my robot still killing Raaks during the final cutscenes. I got a couple screenshots I should put on Steam later.

Okay... I am no longer upset about that bubble launcher!

Thanks, King Mong!

Very cool! I need to try and get that. How many tries did it take?

Tries?

Oh, I understood.
First time hitting the Blight in TVHM. Got savaged by the new Demonmongs right by spawn but managed to catch a second wind, climbed the wall and there he was. A few headshots later (and dodging lots of rocks) and that beauty was waiting for me. Lucky. f*ck. Seriously. Now the GF is yelling at me to play Dance Central 3 with her. Gots to run or not get any. "Yup" she says. *sigh*

Haha... Well, that's quite a lucky drop!

I could think of worse things to have to do to prevent not getting any.

Stele:

Gaige is easily the most powerful character in BL2; an "easy-mode" character to ease newbies into the genre. I had her Deathtrap going around killing entire encounters by itself and I'm not even speccing BFF tree. I'm speccing LBT. If there's a class that doesn't need to shoot, it's Gaige. Axton's sentry is just not on the same level; even with DT's longer cooldown.

I found Bloodshed/Cunning on Zer0 to be extremely entertaining. Sniper's okay, but it's not like I don't snipe with Axton or Gaige. You can just do it from way farther off with Zer0, which doesn't help you at all against guys like Henry. Bloodshed is a little more suited to encounter ranges in BL2 in general, and it really changes the gameplay, being much more melee-oriented. Deadly Bloom and Love Thumper have to be the go-to shields for this playstyle. I just got them and ripped faces with Law.

Lyuda's my drop for this shooting gallery session with Axton. Finally got it to drop off Gettle. It's amazing with the Bee, as expected.

Well, any item with red text is specifically designed to have some sort of unique behavior. Some are very beneficial, like the slag sniper with transfusion properties I got, others are just zany fun, like the talking shotgun.

E-tech basically is higher damage on top of whatever regular effects the gun has, which includes any elementals. It also has that distinctive laser bolt look to its projectiles.

All E-Tech weapons shoot standard ammunition in a variety of different forms, ranging from lasers to energy balls to slow projectiles that ricochet. E-Tech weapons almost always use multiple rounds of ammunition per shot, and usually have low muzzle velocity for their type but high damage.

Huh. Just ran across InnuendoBot tonight. He seems to be broken.

Something the wiki doesn't state is that alternative etech projectiles are NOT bullets, so riot shields and spinning blades do not stop them. These prove useful against Bull Loaders, PWR Loaders, and Nomads with riot shields.

Well damn, that's very useful to know.

Pirate robot spoiler line that's awesome:

Spoiler:

Executing execution.exe

Holy crap that level 50 mental block takes a while to get over. I keep thinking that I should maybe take a few sessions to clear out some of the extra missions that unlocked... to level up a bit. :/
I'm as leveled up as it's gonna get (for now), so it's all equipment for now.

On that note, does Moxxi not give out weapons for tips in TVHM? I've put about 100K in her jar and nothing.

I disagree, I had an easier time with Maya than I have with Gaige. Deathtrap is awesome, but he glitches constantly. He gets stuck on the environment, trapped behind objects, clips through the world, you name the glitch and he runs into it. Early on he'd clear entire camps without my help, but now he just gets owned if I'm not there lending a hand.

Sex!

Looking to farm stuff for monies (or possibly better loot)? Have the 1st DLC? Good, I have just the solution for you: Apparently if you go back and forth between Oasis and Wurmwater...

Spoiler:

All the chests in Oasis reset with new stuff!

Gotta say, although I'm not even half way through Pirate's Booty, I'm really enjoying Shade's character.

Spoiler:

All of them ; )

Looks like new DLC info has already been discovered:
