Entirely possible. Now it's 3:00 CST/6:00 EST so we'll see how many times it gets pushed back before they're actually able to get it out. Just a couple hours ago there were over 3 thousand ppl just on the forums and now the forums are down completely, so my money is on the demand being much higher than they expected and everything is getting clogged up.

is this the open beta start?

No this is just the alpha phase. Beta starts the 30th or 31st

I just started downloading it. I was refreshing the page on my phone to see when it was up and it kept showing the same message. Then I just randomly checked the site on my computer and it was ready. Now I'm like 2 hours behind >:(

And it's moving at a blistering rate of what seems to be at least 100 kb/sec.....ugh

But I guess that's what I should have been expecting

I'd be on this right away but I'm traveling out if the country until Thursday night. I'll be loading it up and checking it out on Friday morning, jet lag permitting. Hoping by then server overloads etc will have calmed down.

Not sure if people were able to connect last night or not. I tried a couple times and it kept saying it couldnt find a server and when clicking on one would say it was full even though it was showing 10/40.

Yea there's some odd stuff goin on, good to see several folks are interested though.

Basically, do not buy this to play an alpha as a game ready to be played right now. Buy it now if you want the discount you get by buying pre -20th and wanna help alpha test it....

It's truely an alpha state right now with many features missing, many intentionally held back for beta, and they're utilizing the alpha to work strictly on fixing game crashes and server issues and stuff that comes with first letting thosuands of players into your game at once. Also for starting to tune loot distrobution and spawns etc.

They've got much work to do over the next couple weeks. The game is playable atm, but barely. Honestly, it's slightly more playable than i expected for less than 24hrs into alpha.

Right now the starting out experience is also just like elektro 24/7 deathmatch so....anyhow. The game looks like it has a lot of promise but i'm expecting a lot out of the beta transition.

I am finding the best way to get survival goods is to try to sneak around starting towns collecting the loot piles from dead noobs that died to zombies as they ran around. Crouching and crawling really do work for evading zeds...just...god help you if you attract 2 or 3. In spite of the slew of asshole players, the zombies are still deadlier.

They also appear to have total players capped atm which may be the cause of full game message on server which appears to have slots.

I'm not sure what they're goal is with that...but ok..long as they keep working and up the cap steadily and soon.

I think this is gonna get pretty fun when the map is opened up with a 40 player cap over the whole thing or so for the size of colorado map. That and addition of strongholds in beta release has me pumped after gettiing a couple hrs total in game now.

I still cant help feeling that this is a big cash in on the DayZ meme. I know this was in development longer than DayZ, but with them changing things up and monetizing everything... just feels wrong.

I'm unclear on some of the stuff in the market place atm. The producer/devs have said many many time and in every FAQ for example that weapon attachmeents won't be available in the store for pay to win....so i have to wonder is this just for alpha...or if it just needs updating from whatever closed alpha version they had or wtf.

I don't expect and seriously hope they don't, stay in the store.

Game should be fully playable without the GC store items. Many items in the store, and actually many of hte more desireable ones atm, are in game currency though, which i'm not even sure is gettable yet.

Found a spot where someone died to zeds, used my hammer to take out the 2 zeds by him (hammer is awesome for zeds) and picked up his massive pile of bandages, metal bat, extra hammer, and alice backpack along with meds....nice...dumb noob carrying that stuff around atm:) Transfering to my global inventory after finding a safe spot.

I wasn't able to log in last night since I didn't get it downloaded until after I had planned on going to bed. I played for 20 mins or so before I went to work and a little during my lunch break, and Fuzzball you're definitely right about it barely being playable; the game crashes regularly.

It seems like it'll be enjoyable enough once I can get some guns. Someone found me almost right off the bat and tried to kill me with his flashlight (fail! I backed away and ran circles around him hitting him and killed him after about 6 hits) right after that encounter I literally spent 3 minutes or so hitting 1 zombie with a flashlight repeatedly before he killed me, so the difference between how much damage a player can take vs. how much a zed can take is enormous. After I created another player I found a hammer and some other supplies in a grocery store before the game crashed, so I'm waiting to get off work and see what kind of damage I can do with that and if it'll help me survive long enough to find a gun.

We definitely need to get a group together, that way when some dickhole tries to attack us with his flashlight we can own him. Rate of success increases exponentially.

Best place currently for updates on alpha is facebook....they seem to be using that since their own forums are constantly getting overflooded or attacked or something...who knows....

Another thing, I'm not sure if they are locking off part of the Colorado map for Alpha, but I definitely hit an invisible wall in almost the exact middle of the map.

The difference between zeds and players is players take at least some damage anywhere, but zeds only in the head. 1 or 2 solid head hits is killing most low level zeds for me with the hammer, sometimes 3. Same with nail bat. I prefer the hammer though cause 1 on 1 you can keep the zeds staggered and put them down.

Only head hits hurt zombies, and the aim is currently off which makes it seem way worse with meleee weapons. The "crosshair" for a melee strike would actually be 25 to 35% from the bottom of the screen it seems to me. So aim a lil high and pancake them with that hammer. I'm getting better at it.

Yeah, they've said they will restrict the map initially to about 30% to keep folks from wandering around too much. They are really trying to test server capacity and loot spawns etc. It's alpha TESTING, so that doesn't mean it's necessarily going to be a great play experience, FTR.

Only 30% max of colorado is currently unlocked. They're unlocking more as we go through alpha. By beta fully unlocked it will be.

Only accessible to owners with alpha access i believe.

If you find something cool, quit to main and save it to global inventory asap.

A sudden disconnect from server can happen rather frequently during this time which may cause loss of items recently picked up.

Also there's an error message on crash that if recieved often leads to death and or total item loss from that toon (no zombie hero 0) or something like that.

Well.....I finally got home, cranked it up, and spawned back in the grocery store where I got disconnected........to a group of 3 players......who murdered me....fml

The good news is you can play other toons then in an hr your revive your guy and he's very nearby where you left off.

Not too hard to sneak around with crouch and crawl

if you're able to log in at all.

After last night's patch (the second post alpha patch) i went from very hard to get on a server and crashing every 5 minutes at best to only crashing once over a 4 hour period and immediately getting on a playable server with a fairly quick load every single time i hit quick join.

I'd say they're making rapid and large improvements.

I've been trying to be nice and give it a shot, but this is a complete pile of crap. It's just too 'gamey' and cheap feeling, and if they're too damn lazy to create their own ToS or at least proof read it then they're too lazy or not comptentent enough to make the Everest sized mountain of changes or upgrades that would make this come across as something not cheap.

If you want guns and zombies wait till December for teh stand alone version of DayZ.

I'm enjoying the game a lot.

naw i wont ask for a refund because i'm still going to keep following this. I'd love to be proven wrong and want to see if it can happen, but i have friends and folks from the site asking my opinion on the game. So i posted my opinion. It's a cheap knock off and doesnt deserve any extra money.

You just told everyone to pass on this, that it's a complete pile of crap, and called total foul on it....

But yer gonna keep it and still login....

I'm just saying, if you really feel about it how you said. Back it up by returning your key to the game. Or you just being sensationalist?
