The Halloween Scare-All

Pages

So I did a search to see if there was a generic Halloween thread for every year, and it seemed that a new one cropped up every time. Some had dates, some did not. I still have God awful memories of trudging up old topics in past forums, so I figured let's start fresh with a general catch-all thread for Halloween that can carry over year-after-year.

Things can be discussed such as good movies for the season, or how to set up a proper haunted house, excellent locations for haunted hayrides or corn mazes, and, of course, costume concepts and ideas.

Myself, I'm currently working on a costume as The Penguin from Batman.

I ordered a toy umbrella gun (that is hopefully fake looking enough that I won't get arrested but I'll probably keep it hidden just in case), but since it's an import it might not arrive in time. In which case, I'll just use a standard umbrella.

I bought a cheap top hat, bow tie and cigarette holder from a Halloween store and have added a monocle to my shopping cart on Amazon (what kind of Halloween store lacks a prop monocle? All of them, it seems).

I just need to figure out where I can get a cheap tailcoat, suspenders and/or cumberbun, and pin stripe pants. I'm guessing I should try outlets or Goodwill first.

But the real trouble is the nose. Based on my Amazon search, my best options are this goofy looking thing, this larger and rounded shnozzer, and this Tim Burtonesque crooked beak of a nose. Just about any other nose at a Halloween store has a wart or mole to make it look more witch like.

I'm planning on some Halloween shenanigans in the Southeastern PA or South Jersey area, such as haunted houses or corn mazes, that I'll be posting here.

What are you guys doing for the holiday?

I wanted to be the creepiest thing I could imagine, but I still haven't tracked down a Strangeblades costume.

I will be 'on vacation' that week visiting family in Florida, but I do have a Dr Who costume I've been putting together for a party we're going to October 27. So for Halloween night I'll probably wear the costume answering the door all night at my mother-in-law's house.

I bought a couple of things so I'll be starting with this on the doorstep this year:

I'm also looking into making one of those bottomless pit boxes and maybe an axworthy ghost.

Well I got the prop umbrella gun today, and it is awesome. Evidently I also ordered it from China. Money well spent.

You pull the trigger and the umbrella opens up completely. It's awesome and actually quite snazzy. I may keep it around as a regular umbrella.

I'm just hoping to have my Halloween party this year. It's a Very Small party, and involves lots of drinking, watching of spooky MST3k episodes, Shaun of the Dead, The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra, and various fancy hats and capes. Then probably more drinking. A Jack-O-Lantern would be carved if I felt I could trust any of the attendees with a knife after several jello shots (including myself), or even agree on a design. We mainly just talk sh*t about the pumpkin's mother and draw on it with a sharpie marker; that works out pretty well and is quite festive.

I've never carved a pumpkin before. My mom was always paranoid so we drew on the pumpkin with markers.

I think that should be on my list of things to do.

My boys and I are going with a graveyard theme in decorating our house. I went out and bought 5 bags of mulch and went to a local Halloween store and got some nice fake tombstones and a couple of skeleton parts. Also found a fog machine at a "priced to move" price.

So, put the mulch in grave looking piles, plant the tombstones, have a couple of skeletons bursting out of the graves. Add some fog, some flickering lightbulbs, and some fake cobwebs. Will post pictures when it is all set up.

Bonus is that on Nov. 1, I will have my flower beds half mulched after we spread the "graves". Win-win.

My brother-in-law is having a GI Joe themed Halloween bash. Sadly, we'll be coming back from Florida the same day and won't be going. Probably no costuming for us this year.

My friends are having a Halloween party where costumes are mandatory. Costumes are not my thing, and I usually get grumpy and end up not going because I can't be arsed getting a costume together.

Apparently, Grumpy Englishman doesn't count as a costume, not even if I put my Union Jack shorts and Union Jack cycling jersey on.

One idea I have is Zombie Mario. I have a Mario hat I got as a freebie from Club Nintendo a while back, add a pair of dungerees and a T-shirt and slap on some zombie makeup, and I'm set, right?

Zombie Mario would probably count, and wouldn't be too hard.

I dunno. I get psyched up about costumes lately, which is funny as I never got much opportunity to do them in years prior. In fact last year was the first one I had done in a long time, but it got a lot of positive response.

Anyone else notice Halloween stores stocking up on a metric crap ton of zombie baby animatronics?

The wife and I have been discussing that. Except of course, which Doctor (I don't own a bowtie) and which companion we could be?

I made an awesome Chuck costume a couple years back and no one really got it. I even used this web site that let you make a Buy More ID with your picture, and printed it out for a name badge and everything. Bought some cheap shoes and it was quite authentic I think. Apparently just not enough people watched Chuck.

Last year a friend of mine went as Matt Smith, and her very large, hairy husband dressed up as Pond. It worked out pretty well.

Right now I'm doing something I intended to do last year: Playing the Undead Nightmare DLC for Red Dead Redemption!

It may have worked out better to be doing it this year, with a longer break after having finished the normal campaign. I'm really thrilled to be visiting my old haunts from RDR. It's a little meh that there seem to just be two gameplay modes so far, and not really a variety of mission types, but the atmosphere and cutscenes are so good that they more than make up for it.

Also reading some Lovecraft stories and horror comic books.

I'm recycling my Satan getup from a couple years ago.

My kids and I talked about possibly doing matching costumes. He's a green muscle shirt and some hair gel away from being Guile if I did M. Bison. He also wanted to be a Spy on the same team as my Pyro. But that's money I'd rather spend elsewhere. So, he and his brother will probably both assume some version of Ninja/Ninjago/Power Ranger.

Costume Quest is the Halloween-themed game that I've played during the past two Halloweens and intend to continue each year.

I'm going as the 11th doctor (Matt Smith). I found a good tweed jacket at a thrift store and Amazon has cheap bow ties and suspenders. My wife wants me to wear a fez, too; not going to happen, though. She found a blue skirt that she is going to sew TARDIS window dressings on and is going to wear a white blouse with a bow tie. I recommended the Amy Pond police outfit for her, but she said no to that one.

Awwww.

So it seems finding a tailcoat and pinstripe pants on the cheap is a pain in the ass, so I'm giving up and just ordering some on Amazon. That way if they don't fit too well or some such, well, it didn't cost me a lot anyway.

My Fiancee and I are going as TOS crewpeople. Her trek dress will remain for bedroom uses.

That costume was her idea. I was hoping for Green Arrow and Black Canary, or Robinhood and Marian. But if the lady wants Trek then by GOD I give her Trek.

I just need to get the shirt and some new black pants.

If I can convince my wife, I really want her to be Freddie Quell to my Lancaster Dodd.

Our family went to our neighborhood's costumed dog parade this weekend. By far my favorite entry was the Gangnam Dog dressed as PSY who also had backup dancers and a kid with a boombox playing the song.

Played some Undead Nightmare, read some of the new Dark Horse version of Creepy.

I fear you and I live in different dimensions!

It's a little early, but I was just Castiel from Supernatural at NYCC over the weekend:

I would love to see what the set-up is for something like this. I super love this. Halloween is pretty important to us. I should start putting my decorations out this weekend, but I'm not sure I'm smart enough to get a proper start.

Would love to see any pics or vids of costumes or house decorations. Pics never seem to do my house justice.

At Lowes, I initially thought that this was the Frazetta Death Dealer. Had that been the case it would be in my house now.

Well, I paid $25 for that video of the singing pumpkins. I paid .99 for the song on amazon and used windows movie maker to put the 2 together. I paid $70 for a used projector which we plan on using this winter for outdoor movie nights and we just bought 3 pumpkins today, so not too much

Here is a page for bottomless pits - http://www.hauntproject.com/projdeta...

Admittedly, at first I laughed. Then I thought about my daughter in a few years. Okay. I'm on board now.
