Diablo III Catch-All 2.0

No, that's my current pa-- crap, now I gotta change that! And actually, they couldn't get into anything except my email anyway, cause everything else has additional protection.

Just wanted to post that I'm trying to finish the game as my October project and would love some company. If anyone is interested in starting a new character with me (I just rerolled a demon hunter), I'm Jornas1556.

I've been dropping in occasionally. I've been levelling my "youngest" character each time (lately WD), so they're all >55. I doubt I'd "start over" (instant respec seems to have eliminated my need to have 24 characters).

That said, I idle in Vent when I'm playing games (mostly FTL, DayZ, or D3). If you see me in a channel, I may be up for switching games.

I've got a WD and DH that need levels. Both are lvl 1 or 4 or something small. I'm on most nights as this is my go-to game right now. I'll friend you up and we shall rain frogs or arrows together. All I ask is that you allow me to pause every 40 minutes or so to queue up another episode of whatever I'm watching on the other screen.

What he said. The West Wing and Diablo make one hell of a combo.

I've been playing as well. On my aging Mac, Diablo is scratching that MMO itch I get on occasion. I'm in Act IV with my level 30 Witch Doctor. The only friend requests have been bots, which is rather depressing. I'm Aristophan1755, and I'm up for leveling a new character or Nightmare mode with my WD when I get there.

EDIT - Diablo dead. Nightmare awaits.

What will bring me back to Diablo: once they add the option to "start" a character at level 30 on nightmare.

The first slough through is tough. My next toon took 2 days to get there. My secret? A head socket with the highest ruby I can make adding xp%. Right now I've got a star ruby adding 25% xp. That ruby bounces to whatever character I'm playing. Until I make another.

In normal difficulty I almost ignored stats entirely and went for +xp on kill wherever I could get it. With enough +xp on kill you can get like 75% bonus xp per kill. I made a beeline for the end of act boss, had no trouble taking him down and was well above the expected level. In nightmare I had to be a bit smarter, but not very.

You'd think that would be trivial given how stat and skill/rune gains are static. That'd be a better reward than a you killed Diablo on difficulty X achievement.

Yeah, and the actual time spent to grind through normal/nightmare/hell dwarfs in comparison to the time you'd spend grinding for gear and Paragon levels in Inferno.

Seems like the least they could do is let you start out with a character that has all its skills available, rather than force you to go through short-bus mode again.

But guys, Captain Rumford would be overwhelmed by those 5 zombies in New Tristram if we didn't come around and help him every 30 hours or so.

I did this with my hardcore character. At the end of normal, I've got +134 xp per kill. It was higher at one point but I started transitioning to actual stats.

He's just a farmer!

From your character's point of view is your memory wiped every difficulty setting or something? If not why can't I just slit Leah's throat in A1 and avoid all the drama?

Spoiler:

Probably over thinking this, in that I thought about it at all.

Yes, spending time considering the story after your first Normal run is over thinking it.

FTFY

Since I started back to school, I haven't had a chance to play much (or post here, dammit). I feel like every time I manage to boot the game any more, none of the people I play with are online and it just feels like a crapshoot to play with randoms. It's also starting to feel a little like a job... Grinding is fun when your upgrade loop is relatively quick, but I guess I'm just not made for late game Diablo play.

And skimming over the posts I missed here doesn't make me want to come back... I guess I'll just pick up TL2 when it comes to the mac.

I haven't abandoned the game but I kind of needed a change of pace. Seeing as next month's big purchase is ME3, I'm going back and replaying ME2. But I always come back to Diablo.

I can't say the game has interested me much lately. Been busy with Fallout: New Vegas. I realize I am way late on this, but I got a little saturated from Fallout 3 and the break has really made it nice coming back. D3 is just... as JillSammich mentioned, a little like work.

For me, grinding Inferno is just incredibly bland. Everything feels too strong - dies too slowly - and it doesn't feel like you're actually going anywhere. I hadn't played in several weeks because of that.

This week I started a new barb, and it's feeling pretty good around A2 normal (once I had enough skills to do things). It'll probably fizzle out again soon, but for now it's fun enough.

I thought I would move on to TL2, but that game is completely failing to hold my attention for some reason.

Same here. The combat mechanics just aren't sufficiently interesting to hold my attention. With D3 the skills all seem distinct and can be combined to different ends, dynamically even, while in TL2 it seems like you're mostly expected to pick one of the three trees and build it out permanently, and the differences between the trees seem mostly to do with the range you want to fight at. I prefer everything about TL2 except the actual feel of the combat, which is unfortunately the focal point of the game.

I think you summed up what bothers me about that game as well. The skill system discourages experimentation (which is something Diablo 3 does such a good job at), and by and large it feels like "hold mouse button to kill." Diablo 3 combat seems to have a... rhythm, and a flow, that TL2 seems to lack.

There's a lot not to like about Diablo 3, but its combat loops (short of Inferno, anyway) are exquisite, and the skill system is ingenious.

I am totally coming back for patch 1.0.5 because of monster power. Though it will be quite tougher than /players 8 because monster power increases the damage as well as the hit points. Whereas in D2 it was sufficient enough to just increase the hp corresponding to the xp increase on diminishing returns.

I've wanted to come back to Diablo for at least a week now (since I got bored with Borderlands) but I feel like it's a waste of time to play before the next patch comes out. They really need to stop advertising how awesome the patches are going to be so far out in advance.

I've not been paying attention to the patches and whatnot. What is 1.0.5 and monster power?

Public Test Domain patch notes and monster power article.

I haven't stopped playing at least a few minutes every day, I'm at Paragon Level 18.

Honestly if you got bored of the game a few months ago, there's nothing different or worth coming back for yet. Let's see how the new patch changes things.

I'm rocking something like 365% Magic Find on Inferno and I still don't find anything worth it. I don't even pick up blues or sub-63 level yellows anymore. I've found a few legendaries, but they've all been crap. Out of probably thousands of items I picked up, only 1 item has dropped that was slightly better than the equipment I bought on the AH...

I still play it because it's relaxing to listen to some radio shows or watch TV in the background while you blow up some demons... But honestly, it's getting boring. The little blue bar for Paragon levels hardly moves anymore, I can't imagine how unbearably slow it's going to be around level 30, let alone 100.

Hot damn, that is an awesome patch! I can't wait.

Cool. The prospect of starting a new character on Normal may no longer induce suicide.
