Rocksmith Catch All

Sweet! I think I may have just found my ticket to migrating to the PC version!

To celebrate Rocktober, next Tues (10/16) we will be releasing 3 DLC MONSTER-PACKS of our greatest hits: a 15-song Classic Guitar Pack ft. Queen, Boston, CCR, & more - a 12-song Classic Hits Pack ft. The Police, David Bowie, & more - and a 15-song Alternative Rock Pack ft. The Offspring, Radiohead, blink-182 and more!! All 3 Packs are heavily discounted and will be available in for a limited time only, so be sure to check them out!

[Edit] The PC version works great with the 360 controller too. With Steam Big Picture the whole controller experience works great. Too bad the beta expired.

Well, not quite at heavily discounted as I had hoped. Guess it beats a stick in the eye though.

To be clear, none of this is new DLC, right? These are all songs that have already been released?

Exactly. It's a discounted repackage, I'm guessing to deal with all people wanting to move to the PC version but complaining about losing their DLC.

:(

That's a shame, and really doesn't make any sense.
Why would they need the down-time between the end of the "beta" (looks more like an RC to me really) and the release of the final version? They are actively pushing patches to the "beta", so I cannot see why they couldn't just go for a rolling release. Perhaps there are some retail shenanigans involved.

Any idea what "limited time" means in terms of the discounted DLC packs?

Is there any way to turn off the creepy crowd in gigs in the PC version? I'm a little bit horrified by them.

No. The fact that they all look the same to you is actually a direct commentary on the alienation and dehumanization that all rock stars eventually feel.

Once you level up and do bigger venues they will downscale enough that the robotic twitching and flailing becomes less noticeable such that they are no longer even people, just a writhing mass of flesh and noise, once again perfectly emulating the effect on a person's perspective as they rise to superstardom.

Hope that makes you feel better about it.

Certainly gives me an incentive to improve

I don't notice them because they are sheep, baaaaing to no effect or meaning, worshiping the Rock God that is me.

As I 84% Good Enough for the tenth damn time.

Got my PC copy of the game today, without a CD key in the box. Apparently this has happened to quite a few people in the EU.
Kind of herpy-derp there, Ubisoft...

Any luck dialing out the latency?

I think so, but I need to play with comparing the PS3 to the PC and see how it compares. I really have no lag to speak of on my console setup so even the tiny amount of lag on the PC is now noticeable.

Even if I decide to skip it for now it's nice to know I can get it on Steam if (when) my PS3 craps out in the future.

So I was finally able to eliminate the latency by switching my audio output off my Asus PCIe card to onboard audio and tweaking the MaxOutputBuffer in the ini file (to 256 or 512, I can't recall how low I was able to make it). I didn't have to change settings to stereo output to achieve this, so that's nice. I have Latency Buffer set to 1 with no ill effects.

Even with all audio processing off the card was introducing noticeable lag. The final nail in the coffin of card-based audio I guess.

I've officially bought the game and a fair amount of DLC, some new ones and some old favorites. The experience on PC is far superior.

Yeah I was surprised to hear Elysium kind of slagging it on this weeks' CC. I have had a couple of CTDs so far which are annoying. But the extra speed of the menus and load times more than make up for those. The convenience of having this in my office means I have actually put in approx. 12 hours. Got to level 6 on the bass with almost 4M RSPs. I'm at the point where the songs are really starting to push me.

The PC version is worth it for the load/save speed alone.
I play for an hour to an hour and a half almost every night. When my wife and I do multiplayer it's arduous on console. I have had several freezes at load screens on PS3 as well which requires me to power down and restart completely. At least if I get a CTD on the PC I won't have to reboot the whole dang machine.
I would estimate that I am able to get at least a couple songs extra in with the elimination of the save and load times on the console.
Plus the added speed actually makes this viable as a party game (we know a lot of musicians :p).

The game finally launched in Europe. Played an hour on the Xbox last night and yeah, it's everything I wanted it to be. I didn't expect the virtual amp to makes such a difference compared to my cheap crappy home amp, but it totally does. Should not underestimate the value of sounding good. (Also I'd expect the noise masking to be a factor...)

No issues with lag, but I did pick up the 360 version over the PS3 for A) loading times are generally shorter on the 360 and B) I had component cables for the Xbox. Loading times don't grate me at all, thanks to the amp being active during them.

Welcome to the club! Rocksmith is great provided you can look beyond some of the rough interface issues. After not picking up a guitar for almost a decade I've been playing nearly every day for a year thanks to this game. I still need to get around to learning proper music theory, but my practical playing skills have improved enormously.

The big problem I found with the console versions was that load/save times kept getting longer... and longer... and longer... as I got more DLC and posted more scores. I got very used to hearing the first 15 seconds of 20th Century Boy every time I came back to the songs menu. One reason I switched to the PC was that loads&saves take about a half a second.

Rush Pack is out on Steam (not sure about you console folks - I assume it is):

Tom Sawyer
Limelight
YYZ
Red Barchetta
Subdivisions

$11.99

I've always dreamed of being good enough to play YYZ not-horribly on bass. I guess this is my chance.

Oh my. I guess I need to squirrel away some funds for more DLC.

Edit: Although, buying this DLC will just increase the barrier for jumping over to the PC version. I really wish they'd just let DLC transfer. It's probably a licensing nightmare, though. I wonder how much the licensing fee is. Would be nice if we could just pay the licensing fee per song to get the DLC on PC.

Just get the PC version. It is better.

Maybe Steam will have a nice discount during the winter sale.

Is the new DLC since the PC launch available on the PC? Or has the DLC been stuck to just the console?

I think everything is available on the PC. The DLC before this was the Avenged Sevenfold pack (+ individual songs) right? That's out for PC.

According to their Facebook page, the new Rush DLC is available for all platforms - 360, PS3, and PC.

I believe the only thing missing on the PC is the Christmas pack and maybe two other songs? I might be making the latter up but I seem to recall there were a couple missing that I assumed they had licensing issues with the new platform release.

I finally broke down and bought the PC version over the weekend. I'm still really pissed that they broke the song unlocks on bass and then had the audacity to charge for the Unlock DLC, but ultimately I really enjoy playing and by starting over I should avoid the bug*, assuming it exists on the PC version.

*The bug is that if you unlocked songs on the guitar version, then get the bass DLC, those songs aren't unlocked on bass and other than one song they won't unlock through the usual double-encore system. I'm assuming it works if you just start your profile with the DLC installed.

bandfuse got pushed to 2013 so my will to hold out on these dlc packs is fading fast (or completely failing in a couple occasions)

Had an irritating thing happen playing this on PC today: was half-way through a set, the song switched and the game stopped recognizing my bass. I was rocking it pretty hard, but a goose-egg on Synchronicity II (an easy song to play) meant no encore.

Check out the power settings tab for all your USB hubs/ports in device manager and make sure they are not set to allow the system to turn it off to save power.
I've heard this helps some people with this issue.

Yeah, everything is set up to not allow that. Thanks for the advice though. Besides, I can still hear myself play throguh the port just fine, the game just doesn't register it.

I've notice it happen in rehearsals and during tuning check. But you can fix during the tuning check by enabling bass simulation mode (or whatever the hell it is called) and then switching back to bass. During a rehearsal, quitting the song and restarting works. It's like the DSP engine crashes or something and needs to be restarted.

But I had never seen it during a gig, which was aggravating.

Funky new tracks:

Super Freak by Rick James

Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof Off the Sucker) by Parliament

Good Times by Chic

I will definitely get the Parliament and maybe the other two at some point. Still catching up on DLC though.

Just announced: New DLC every week for the next 3 weeks. According to the developer, all are "highly requested bands and songs."

First clue for next week:

This band’s first album was produced by the drummer and lead guitarist’s father.
