MechWarrior: Online - Catch all

Question: If you buy a mech and remove an attachment to inventory, can you put that on another mech you buy, or can it only be reequipped on that class or even specific mech?

It goes into your inventory so you can use it on mech that has the room and a ballistic hard point. I believe you can even sell it out of you inventory but I have never tried, Might only be able once the game goes live.

Yep. That was a bit much. Have they released any new maps in the last month or so? Thought they were talking about some new ones coming soon, but those were the first games I'd played since before they put the economy in.

Can't decide what mech to buy first. I played a base Dragon before. Liked that, but think maybe I should learn a medium. Might just get a Hunchback. Can't decide on a HBK-4G or HBK-4H. Need to read up on the AC/10 vs AC/20 play styles.

You only get 10 shots with the AC/20 so unless you are a crack shot you will find yourself out of ammo pretty quick.
I like running 2 AC/2 for nice range and 3 med laser's, If you chain fire the AC's you can keep rocking most mech's.

Don't Hunchies only have that 1 hardpoint on the shoulder though?

I really dig the 2xAC/5s on my Dragon.

I also am not a fan of the AC/20, but that might only be because I miss too much. Even after using the AC/5 for quite awhile every miss on a 20 is huge.

Depends on which variant of hunchie you use the one with the a/c 20 has 3 ballistic hard points and energy in each arm, some have energy hard points.

Good times yesterday. I do like that the mechs can play so differently from each other. I'm learning to play a Hunchback, and am not nearly as effective as I was in a Dragon several patches back.

Anybody want to get a group together at around 8PM EST tonight?

Thoughts so far;
i) Getting intentionally team killed is very bleh.
ii) Looking at the points earned per match relative to the cost of items is extremely discouraging. It may not be pay2win strictly speaking but when the convenience factor of using real money is so large it kinda feels like it might as well be. Furthermore I once again loathe obfuscating costs via pseudo currencies.

I think the economy is not too bad. In a couple of days of play (estimate 20 rounds?), I've got about 2.5 million cbills. First day I played with a trial mech, then I bought a Hunchback with some of my founder MC currency.

So it will take you some time to get enough to buy some of the bigger mechs, but it's not inconceivably long.

But everybody's taste on that stuff is different. I'm liking that a lot of these games that they likely never would have been able to afford to put into a retail box are getting made into solid games. But if you don't like to stress over the economy, I can totally understand.

Weird that a couple of old school PC games have come back this way (Tribes and Mechwarrior). It's the new shareware floppy

I think the issue is the first mech purchase, without dropping MC you can't pick a mech right off that you want, you can choose from the trial mechs but those aren't exactly ideal. However that isn't that dissimilar to something like League of Legeneds with its rotating stable of free champs.

The economy is much better than it was a short while ago.

I'm really *really* liking this game. I find the economy to actually be in the perfect spot. I've only been playing since Saturday and have already purchased 2 mechs, a raven and a hunchback, and am now saving Cbills for some weapons. I'm also really keen on the developer interaction, lots of developer interviews, weekly updates, and a well moderated community.

Really don't mind the economy so far, I think it's working. Crazy how right they got it after a very bad patch some weeks ago.

I was a bit put off by the economy a few weeks ago, but it's great to hear good things from you guys now. Will be tough competing with X-Com now though for my gaming attention.

Don't think powered down mechs due to overheat should keep a lock, it's kind of incongruous when shutting down normally will break the lock but because you overheat it's a different set of rules. Happy to see the autocannons get a speed buff and once ECM is implemented my Raven is going to be unstoppable!

Would love to try and group up with anyone but seeing as they don't have in game chat (not in main menu). What are you guys using to chat with vent or TS? make it easier in game if we could talk.

Combo of Vent and Mumble lately. There is a voice client they're trying to integrate with the game, I just haven't used it yet. It's C3.

Man, between family time and XCOM, I wish I had more time for MWO this week.

Man, the future is really Film-Grainy! Hope they tone that down a bit.

Really digging the patch so far, changes to river city were excellent, it's my favourite map of the bunch now. Hitting "Q" to see the general state of allied mechs is super handy as well.

I angrily shake my first at whoever keeps wiping my key binds with every patch.

MannishBoy wrote:

At least there isn't a lot of keys to bind. I kind of hope there's more eventually. I'd love for there to be an option to target friendly mechs like there was in previous games, so I can see what weapons and armor is left after a skirmish.

I have to rebind nearly everything because I don't use WASD. I use WERD for movement, and have since Quake.

I guess I should just find the file that houses the binds and back it up.

That is interesting.

I hope when the implement the CCC module (Command Control Communication I think) module it provides some sort of tactical display screen, to be used for like the leader of a group. That displays a screen with the status of all friendly mechs (% health, ammo, component health) and the last known information of all enemy mechs. If you last say alpha and he was retreating with 32% health and no arms or left and right torso then that is something very valuable to know. Would really help coordinate a group, and it fits in with the fact that this is awesome futuristic tech. Data mining is key

Mannish, I am sure you could just keep a backup of the bindings file.

Yeah kind of both Vent and Mumble. I play with a decent sized group of non-Goodjers and we use a Mumble server.

Anytime we get a decent sized group together to play I try to pop into the Vent server to invite any Goodjers over. I think the game is 100x better in a group.

So just a heads up if you didn't read the patch notes too carefully. ANY self-kill will void your Cbills and XP for the round. I overheated and blew up in a spectacular shut-down override alpha strike on a raven capping our base, which allowed our team to win, but I got nothing for my heroics

So the new update is pretty substantial. It runs much smoother and looks much nicer now on my system. (I'm still getting an out of memory crash every couple of games, though.) The unlocks are considerably more powerful than before, like ten times as potent.

I'm liking this more and more! Honestly Hawken doesn't have anything on MWO, not unless they fix the clunky feel. Playing MWO just feels better.

Yeah I was surprised how right MWO feels, I was worried when it seemed like MWO was going to be a blatant cash grab but they've really nailed the feel and the tactics of Mechwarrior. Might have to buy into this one as a show of support, if the economy continues as it is I don't see actually needing to put any cash into it in order to be an effective mech pilot.

Hawken mechs are just too fast for what I want in a mech game. I don't see why people on the MWO forums are drawing comparisons at all, about the only thing they have in common is giant hunks of metal.

Hawken and MWO are totally different types of games. Kind of like how an ARMA is different than a BF3.

I like both. I think Hawken needs to still tweak some stuff, but they're farther from release, so I hope it gets dialed in a bit more.

Was thinking about going back in for the stress test tomorrow to see what's been updated since I last played a long time ago.

Do they have team chat in game now?

Read up a bit We even talked about that today.

There is something half implemented, but we use Vent and Mumble.

Trying to get a big group together for tonight at 8PM EST during the stress test.

Will be getting together in voice chat to hopefully roll over the competition
