I am officially an XCOM widow now.

If you want I can spam his Steam chat, distracting him, and causing his entire team to die. I'd be happy to do it. I can't play for another 3 days.

I think one of our other friends has it covered.

I'm in!

And second mission in, Billy Idol takes one for the team. We'll miss ya, Billy.

Seems to be running very nicely. I have a high end machine, and it's absolutely lovely. The first part of the game is basically a repeat of the demo, so if you're feeling jealous, you can at least get a feel for it.

Man, 1994 me's jaw is on the freaking floor, just looking at this game. A lot of that stuff they were promising in SF? It's here. We're officially living in the future.

I'll return home in an hour and half and play Borderlands 2 some more I guess! I really wish they hadn't changed the wording in the Steam EULA to imply they might ban you for using a VPN to get around region delays.

So anyone playing it on the 360? How is it control-wise? Deciding on PC or 360...

I'm having a lot problems trying to remap keys. It seems to not like me wanting to change camera controls and the weapon swap settings. It looks like they take on the screen, but after Save/Exit they don't work ingame and going back into the settings those entries are blank. Set them again, Save/Exit, go back to settings and they're blank.

Tell him I hate him.

Yup, going to be a long couple of days.

ahhh preloaded, now it's saying "corrupt game files"!!! wtf?!?!

So I go to boot up the computer:
BAM! Windows can't start up and tries to fix itself... wait... wait... wait...
Windows can't fix itself, "do you want to send a error report?" No, I want to play XCOM.
REBOOT. Looks like a victory!
Start up complete, Steam can't find network. Sad Panda.
Reboot router, and... NETWORK! Launch Steam.
Everyone on earth is playing XCOM. Cool. Click Play XCOM.
BAM! Patching. Microsoft-esque countdown that keeps increasing.
It's DONE! Play.
Error. Retry.
Downloading... Done. Play!
...
Installing Direct X.
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

So there's the first mission. Sorry for any spoilers.

(Oh, I finally won the battle. :D)

I'll try to repro tomorrow when I get into work.

:gnashes teeth in jealousy:

I am green with envy that you guys are playing it already. Dangnabit!!!

May the fleas of a thousand camels infest the groins of the publishers that made the decision to delay the game on Steam.

It's a digital copy for frack's sake.

!@#$%^&*()_)(*&^%$#@!

What is the total download size?

I am in the land of prepaid 3G internet so I need to stock up the right amount.

HUUUUURGH THE WAITING FOR IT TO FINISH DOWNLOADING ARRRGH

Question about the Thermo Generators. Do you have to build them on steam, or just in the column of where steam is? The description doesn't make that clear.

Well, that's enough for one night. I don't know what they put into the highest difficulty level, but completely removing my soldiers' ability to hit any alien for an entire round makes it tough to make progress.

I hit that too. Just shut down and restart Steam and it should patch itself back into reality.

I think you might be on the tutorial.

Crap, it disappeared off my stats window, but I'm pretty sure the download was 12.7 gigs.

Properties on the containing directory shows 12.9 gigs taken, so it shouldn't be MORE than that.

I am. Is that a feature in the tutorial? After the first couple of missions you automatically lose?

Just... one... more... mission!

My boss sent everyone home after three hours of work so we could all play XCOM. My copy unlocked in less than a second after restarting Steam (yes, I'm on an SSD). So far Cyranix has died.

Who else wants to be a squaddie?

Happy to be a squaddie. Should at least keep me entertained that I'm being shot at all around the world in the days before I get to jump in and play.

Also, your boss is awesome.

It worked, BP dropping to safe levels.

Who else wants to be a squaddie?

Make sure Maverickdago dies admirably, or at least, humorously.

Put me in, coach!

Any preference to class, color and helmet?

No problems on my end. That isn't totally true though cause I need to go to bed and I'm angry I took the 1st week off in Oct instead of this week.

Game runs pretty good on the pc I bought to play Age of Conan on. It makes me wish Gamesworkshop would make a pc version of warhammer 40k that plays like this game.. I know it would cost them a fortune in miniatures...

So I guess my question is will there be any mod tools released?

Here's what happened to be tonight. (Classic Ironman)

First death in the squad. Ah well, I guess "That's XCOM!"

Alright! Now we're cooking with Crisco!

...so this is what happens when you forget your Sniper has their pistol equipped instead of their rifle.

Well, now that I've killed my whole team off and have a decent feel for the game. I'll allot myself one restart to hit the ground running.

Having fun though!

Sniper, green and whatever

Took a break, and just for yucks, I did a verify on game cache, and it came back saying that 1 file hadn't validated -- a 9 meg download fixed it, and it passes now.

So, I think there might have been a problem in the unlock process, and a quick file check probably wouldn't hurt.

So... It's good. Tkyl, you're the best.

Playing on Classic, and it seems right for me. I've already had some classic X-COM moments where the gameplay just "felt right" with reaction fire and general mechanics. New mechanics have proven to be awesome and I don't miss TU at all.

I've had a few minor things that felt like they were missing, but they weren't anything that's reason for me to be Debbie Downer. Just nostalgia more than anything.

Nobody tell Fry that Professor Farnsworth didn't make it...

Now I have to figure out how I'm going to sit in my cube all day NOT playing XCOM.
