Doubt it, they aren't shipping USPS.

I've gotten a lot of packages from Amazon (some release day delivery items) through the USPS. They use them. They seem to use pretty much every service out there. I'm not sure what set of circumstances leads them to choose any one over the other, but I've gotten release day packages from Amazon through pretty much every semi common delivery service. Even DHL a time or two.

I know they use others, but I don't think I've ever had anything from Amazon itself (not a 3rd party) ship via USPS.

But still, if they're changing delivery across the board, it's not USPS at the root.

Release day for me in Nashville means that the game will ship late the night before from a warehouse in KY via UPS, which is a one day shipping situation no matter what level of service you pay for.

Three hours til unlock, too bad I'm away from my computer. On the plus side I could have tomorrow off.

*sigh* 3 more days till unlock...

Can someone confirm it's possible to delay naming your soldiers until they've leveled up a bit and become a little more hardy?

Yep.

I'm going to name all of my squaddies Rob Zacny so that I can laugh maniacally each time one of them bites it. Then I'll upgrade their name once they've rated.

Amazon will definitely use USPS for items shipped directly from them. Not saying that's the root of delays here or whatever, just that it's been a very common thing for me. I would bet if I dig through my last ten orders or so I'd find three or four items direct from Amazon that shipped USPS.

Sorry, I wasn't saying they wouldn't ship USPS, just that I've never seen it here. I believe you

This last-hour lull seems like a good time to mention our usernames for friending up for possible multiplayer matches. If interested, please mention both your name and the platform you'll be XCOMing on.

I'm Keithustus (as "[GWJ] Keithustus") on Steam.

I pre-ordered from Amazon, selected the free two-day shipping for release day receipt, and my package tracking shows it is already in Houston. I also pre-ordered back at the beginning of September, so maybe that's got something to do with it. I wouldn't think you could pre-order only a day or two before release and expect them to be able to process and ship in less than 24 hours.

That said, I know the store page was still saying release day receipt as recently as Sunday afternoon, because I checked my order at that time and the store page still showed Oct 9th. They should have changed the store page sooner than that.

I could name everyone Notch to mirror my FTL experience. Without fail, whenever he started in my crew, my ship would blow up by sector 3.

Added.

'Datin' on Steam here.

Unlocking...

Every single person on my friends list stopped playing whatever they were playing about 15 minutes ago.

I am officially an XCOM widow now.

At least Amazon didn't screw up my Dishonored shipment...yet. Bowing out of the thread to avoid spoilers.

Wow, that unlocking process is glacial. Wonder what it's doing? It doesn't seem to be using much CPU, so it's probably not decryption, and I don't see any network activity listed, but the bar slowly, slowly creeps upward.

Mine is stuck updating. Says it's going to be at least 20 minutes. I'm not sure it took it that long to pre-download. Bit of a bottleneck on the update server?

At least your bar is creeping. Mine? Holding.....

Tried switching to Ireland to see if i could route into the land w/o XCOM right now, didn't help:(

I saw a couple of folks get into the game pretty quickly... do they have it installed on an SSD or something?

aaaand corrupt files on the install after the unpacking... sigh. Verifying local cache now..

So Amazon finally allowed me to start downloading. What did I get? A tiny application I have to run that links to a web page with my Steam key and instructions how to activate a product.

Couldn't have done that three hours ago so I could pre-load, huh?

At least I seem to be getting my full bandwidth from Steam.

Obladi Oblada, right?

Yeah, I just got that too, LtWarhound.

Still moving. And I'm in Portland too, so you can't even blame Comcast.

Preload, Schmeeload...

It's decryption. Remember, the game is 12 gigs on disk.

Mine just finished verifying game cache after failing to load. Still won't load.

What a bummer.

It finally finished, starting to set up now. I dunno if this helped, but I went into the process manager, and set Steam's priority to Above Normal.

edit: It's running!

I'm in this camp, too.

Word on the Steam forum, trying exiting Steam if you are getting the corrupt files error on launch.

Which got me past that problem and now its in the launcher! Woot.

If you want I can spam his Steam chat, distracting him, and causing his entire team to die. I'd be happy to do it. I can't play for another 3 days.

I had just figured that out. Seems to be installing.
