NFL 2012 Week 5 Thread

I don't know what the Texans are but at the very least they seem to be consistent. Which is a compliment in the NFL parity era. Showing up and playing 4 quarters goes a long way in winning games. Just ask the Packers who are doing their best Jekyll and Hyde impersonation.

I might be ignorant but none of the players really stand out to me as truly elite (caveat this NFL is plug and play RB's IMO so I question Foster). They haven't beat anyone in recent memory where I was like "wow they beat .... and really laid the smack down"

Besides Andre Johnson, clearly one of the best WRs of the past decade? Jonathan Joseph, who has played phenomenally for the past few years? J.J. Watt, who is unquestionably the DPOY right now? And, of course, Foster, who's been one of the best backs in the league the last few years.

That's a really solid team across the board. They went through years of suck, finally started drafting well, and now are really good. They deserve it; Texans fans had to deal with crap for a long time, and it's their turn to get a decent team.

Packers might be that first game where they really lay down a marker in a prime time game. Still have Baltimore, Chicago and maybe the real test at NE for a monday night game. I say that because Baltimore and Chicago can also be extremely inconsistent IMO.

Maybe they are just a victim of their division. Its hard to get amped up about how good they are when you get to slap around the rest of the AFC south ;D

That's a fair point. I'm judging them on this year and their playoff run last year with a 3rd string QB. But we will need to see them beat some tougher teams on the road to really see what they have

So are they really good or a decent team? haha

I think Johnson is overrated now. Definitely was a big play guy before some of the knocks but I think people overestimate what he actually produced in raw stats. Best season for TD's was 9 and hes sneaky old at 31 already. So yes 'one of the best WRs of the pas decade?' so his best years were when Houston wasn't peaking.

The other 3 you kinda prove the point in itself. Joseph past few years, Watt DPOY this year and what I said of Foster earlier I think RB is a plug and play position in todays NFL.

Not trying to put them down and if anything maybe going under the radar will be an advantage for them. I'm sure a couple of the latter guys will build on their reputation but yea when you think Houston Texans I don't think theres a single player other NFL fans identify with. If anything that guy was/is Johnson and then he had last years injury plagued season.

and they will probably show up for 4 quarters and consistently beat the Packers :/

edit: Not having that marquee guy isn't necessarily a bad thing either. This is a team sport. I'd trade 2-3 for 4-0 right now and 0 of the Packers being in commercials.

Two things.. Houston really up to now is the only team that appears "complete" IMO. Maybe SF as well but I'm still not 100% convinced..

310 yards passing and 311 yards rushing yesterday. And we know the defense is solid. 1st in defensive rushing yards allowed, 2nd in passing yards allowed. 4th in the league in Takeaway/Giveaway ratio at +5. Not sure how you get more complete.

I would throw ATL into that mix as well.

Guru: What isn't PC about the Oilers' name and logo? Fossil fuel? We love the energy industry in Houston (and Texas in general).

No chance anyway, because Houstonians love the current name, colors, unis, and I've grown to love the logo.

Would have loved that at founding, though.

On the subject of notable Texans players, you video game fans need to know that Antonio Smith calls himself the "Ninja Assassin", and imitates Ninja Gaiden when he makes a big play.

Well we're not going to have to watch this for long. The Jets suck.

They gonna cut to a different game or something?

My three year-old daughter is getting to stay up late right now. She just said "Yay Texans! Yay Texans! Yay Texans!"

Eh, there's a baseball playoff game on. Tempted to watch that anyway. But giving the Texans a few minutes to take control. I do need a bunch of fantasy points from Foster.

Man, Tebow was robbed by his receiver!

And Sanchez's follow-up pass was not nearly as on-target as Tebow's!

Everyone in the house over here is saying the same thing.

Also is anyone else watching? Cause Fedaykin and I could talk somewhere else if it's just us.

Those were two good Sanchez passes. Didn't think we'd see the endzone tonight.

Texans up, daughter down...it's margarita time.

Do not need Brian Cushing to go down this year. :/

ANOTHER JJ WATT TIPPED BALL! Again for an INT!

That JJ Watt guy is good eh?

How about Bilal Powell, FROM LOUISVILLE, saving the play there... I was hoping it would lead to a Foster TD, but just not enough time to safely run.

NY Desprejets I like it tho. They honestly have a better chance getting a defensive turnover or letting their special teams play.

Yeah their offense is pretty anemic.

Ugh...special teams killing us.

On the subject of the team name:
I believe when Bud Adams moved the Oilers to Tennessee he kept the rights to the Oilers name or something. I dunno how true that is, but Bud Adams really hates Houston, and we hate him. I wouldn't be surprised if he did actually give us one last finger on the way out.

Yup. That's why the Titans wear Oilers unis on throwback days. Which incites murderous anger in Houston every time.

JJ Watt > The Jets.

Fixed, and I agree!

When the hell did Andre Johnson become a scrub receiver who never gets targeted and when he does he doesn't haul the catch in?

A little nervous here, but if you can't trust this D, you can't trust any.

I don't care about your team, I need 4.5 more points out of Foster, and I don't see any way to get that with the D on the field. :p

Actually I do dislike the Jets a lot. So need a quick turnover for Houston to get the ball and run some clock. Or the Jets need to score quick and Houston be forced to move. Whatever... just need more Houston offense!

EDIT: Like that dropped INT would have been perfect.

He's seen his best days, but still occupies the other team's best corner. We know he's not what he used to be. Houston has to retire his number the day he's done.

Crap. Do they have enough timeouts to make Houston run?

Need Foster to just break one all the way...

Ballgame!

Tirico essentially crediting Watt with the win. Hard to argue.
