For some reason, my free 2-day shipping estimates delivery time on Friday and it didn't even give me the option of release date delivery when I placed my order. So I'm gonna pretend like I'm in Europe.

Amazon's been screwing the pooch on 2-day lately. My BL2 "release day" delivery shipped Monday night--I got on Friday. My buddy's hadn't even shipped on launch day.

Alright, XCOM multiplayer gameplay and discussion with Rob Zacny and myself now live!

So tired of this stereotype! It's an acceptable military tactic to surrender rather than fight to the death in an un-winnable situation...

Happily, the RAF did not share this view when faced with the incipient Battle of Britain. Hmm, perhaps I'll have to write an AAR in the voice of Winston Churchill. The Doctor Who version, of course.

In the minus column: pulled muscles/ligaments in my lower back sending it into occassional spasms; hurts to drive (clutching is painful).

In the plus column: not going to work tomorrow to give my back a chance to rest *AND* XCOM comes out.

On balance: Win.

Soldiers will earn names and the right to remove their helmet once they've been promoted once. (Someone on some podcast or preview vid came up with that rule. Thank you!)

My rule is: You start with the basic customization until you level up once. Once you get promoted, you get your squad colors and a helmet. Once you get a nickname, you get a class specific color set. Once you reach max promotion, you get to lose your helmet and take a unique color set.

Love that approach. Will be doing it that way from now on.

Also love the game. Greay jorb Tkyl.

I'm glad to see this does not suck. The game kind of came out of nowhere. I'm not an X-Com fan because it was a little before my time, but I am very interested in a good strategy I can enjoy from my couch. Previous attempts like Halo Wars didn't cut it.

If Charlie likes it, I imagine I'll like it. Glad for the pre-order!

<9 hours to go. Damn, this day is dragging.

The place I've preordered from just announced their stock arrived. Why are they taunting me?

Similar situation here. My coughing is so bad my new client asked if I wanted to take tomorrow off and rest up. It's considered rest if I'm reclined in my gaming chair, right?

Absolutely.

I've been skimming through some of the reviews. This is my favorite line so far. It's from the Play UK review, http://www.play-mag.co.uk/review/xco...

"A few hours in you’ll be making progress, a few dozen hours later you’ll barely have scratched the surface. You’re not just playing: you’re planning. You’re using strategy. You’re not being patronised. You’re being treated like an adult.

But the best part? The best part is that XCOM hates you."

Can you guys help me? I've decided to preorder. But as much as I love Steam, the soundtrack is really important to me. Please let me know how I can satisfy these conditions:

* I'm in the US
* I want the PC Special Edition (for the soundtrack)
* I want to play tonight at midnight
* I want the customization armor/hair/etc. that is Steam preorder bonus #1.

How do I do this, if at all? If not, I'll just Steam order it then look for the soundtrack later using other means.

I believe all the digital pre-orders and the first batch of physical DVDs come with preorder bonus #1.

Same thing happened to me. However, I just got off a customer service live chat with Amazon about it that ended with me getting a free upgrade to 1 Day Shipping. Was quite painless and worth a shot if you're in a similar situation.

Amazon failed to get me Skyrim on release day. I bought it on Steam that day, sold the Amazon copy that finally arrived on Thursday to a friend, and switched to Steam for all new releases since then.

I just spoke to Amazon. The shipment delivery date for XCom is now 10/10, with no explanation as to why it isn't "release day shipping". The customer service rep I spoke with wasn't sure what they was, or why it was promised, and couldn't confirm that it was ever even offered.

Somewhat disappointed.

Wonder if they underestimated how many copies it was going to sell on release. This seems to be garnering some pretty impressive buzz.

Perhaps, but I'll never pre-order from Amazon again.

It's usually a case of the publisher not getting ahead of things or snubbing one retailer in favor of another.

Perhaps. But I placed the pre-order based on the Amazon store page showing a "Want it on release day? Choose one-day shipping" note. I paid for that. Now I get to spend an extra $3.99 waiting for it to arrive a day after release, maybe. nd

It's piss-poor customer service -- made worse by the inability to arm the customer service reps with an answer. I can live with a "hey, we screwed up, sorry". But claiming no such offer existed? Bah.

Yeah, well us International GWJers still have to wait till Friday before we get ours to unlock. Still, gives me some more time to play Skyrim I guess.

In the past, they've done some good things to correct mistakes they've made. I'd file a complaint again and see what happens. Or check the CAG Amazon thread where there's an active Amazon Games guy that posts regularly.

Can someone confirm it's possible to delay naming your soldiers until they've leveled up a bit and become a little more hardy?

Amazon has been great, so I'll give them this one as a pass. I did cancel my order though. Of course when I ordered it, I didn't think I would have a week or so off due to injury, so waiting that extra day and half is much more difficult. I'll just run to the store tomorrow and buy it.

Yep.

I wonder if Monday being a holiday in the U.S. is what is messing with Amazon's normal release day shippings.

Doubt it, they aren't shipping USPS. UPS still runs today, and Amazon uses UPS in my area.

I ordered some stuff on Prime Sunday night and it's supposed to be here tomorrow according to UPS.

Three hours til unlock, too bad I'm away from my computer. On the plus side I could have tomorrow off.

But the best part? The best part is that XCOM hates you.

Awesome. That sounds like X-COM.

I've gotten a lot of packages from Amazon (some release day delivery items) through the USPS. They use them. They seem to use pretty much every service out there. I'm not sure what set of circumstances leads them to choose any one over the other, but I've gotten release day packages from Amazon through pretty much every semi common delivery service. Even DHL a time or two.
