After-Action Report

Ah, right.
Sounds fun, I'm in as Heavy or Assault if you need me.

So, I was at work today, bored out of my mind, and realized that the game will be unlocked by this time next week, and got a little excited. Considering I still had 2 hours to kill before I could go home, I started brainstorming ideas for making this AAR a little more community-oriented. An idea bore fruit in my imagination, but I was unable to verify with Tkyl if it will work or not. Long story short, I'm not sure if this will work, but I'd like to get volunteers lined up just in case.

I'd like to recruit some "officer candidates" for this AAR. What does an officer do, you might ask? Simply put, once your soldier in game reaches a certain rank (I'm thinking Corporal right now), your soldier will be eligible to lead an X-Com squad on his own. By leading a squad, what I actually mean is that if you are chosen as squad leader for a mission, I'll be sending you the saved game file, and you will play the mission for me, and upon completion, send it back to me to continue the game. Now, before you rush to sign up, here are the requirements that you must be willing to fulfill as an officer candidate:

1. When you receive the game file from me, be able to play the in-game mission sometime in the next 2-3 days, and get the file sent back to me.
2. After you complete the mission, I'll expect to hear YOUR after action report in this thread.

As a squad leader, you will only be playing the mission that will be (hopefully) set up ahead of time for you. I'll still be operating as X-Com commander, so I'll be making the big picture decisions (research, base-building, etc), along with assigning the squad members and the gear loadouts. I am thinking about ways to give some decision making perks to you if your soldier continues to advance in rank. This is not set in stone, but I was thinking something along these lines:

Corporal: Eligible for squad leader.
Sergeant: Eligible to pick your own perks for your soldier.
Lieutenant: Eligible to choose squadmates/gear when assigned as squad leader for a mission.
Colonel: Eligible to have a say in the upper level decision making of X-Com.

If you want to be office eligible, just PM me on the boards stating your interest, and with the e-mail address you'd like me to send the file to if you are lucky enough to be chosen for command. Additionally, if you have suggestions, post here and we'll brainstorm.

Sounds like a really cool idea. Hope it works out, Lars.

That sounds awesome.

Hey I'm on the list twice, just wanted to point it out. Also I'm picking up x-com so I'm interested in sharing the game saves. I think it sounds like fun. Writing the AAR though could be brutal cause frankly my grammar is pretty poor. Playing the game in the time frame you mention sounds easy enough, what is the time frame on writing the AAR?

Opps... fixed.

Pretty much as soon as is possible for you. I'd like to delay the next write up of the game until the officer AAR is posted, and obviously I'd like to keep things moving along. Don't worry about grammar, I'm no writer either.

Ooo, I like this whole idea. Go ahead and sign me up as part of the squad too!

Reporting for cot duty, sir.

I'll fall on a grenade.

Oooh! Oooh! Pick me! o/

lol "Obama"

That was the only Swahili name that started with "O" on the website I was using.

Because I didn't wow too many people with my totally awesome officer idea, and only got a couple volunteers, I'm going to move those soldiers up the recruitment chart so I can hopefully get them involved in the AAR a little quicker. Except for that Prozac guy, since he won't get the game until the weekend. Don't worry, I'll only taunt you on Steam a LITTLE bit.

I'm in too! Heavy weapons would probably be appropriate with the name and all, but go with whatever you'd like really.

Yes, Dogo is a name.

I plan on getting started with the AAR Tuesday night. I would like to test out the saved game files, to see if they can actually be used by other people. Any volunteers? Edwin had a good idea to use dropbox to transfer files around, so if there are no objections to that, great. I'll send the dropbox info to the officers so they can use it when the time comes (assuming it works).

I'll volunteer as an officer. This is my first AAR, so I'm excited to get started.

Is it too late to get in on this? I'd like to be Pvt Zappa. Country of origin: UK. Weapon of choice: submachine gun. Catchphrase: Back home in time for tea and medals.

If I don't become a zombie and eat another Goodjer I'll be sad btw.

Well, personally, I think Dodo Duoae would have been better.... but I guess it's a difference in culture or something!

Can I still sign up to take some plasma to the face? I'm not picky about class, but I'd like my country of origin to be Germany.

If we can choose our country of origin, can you make me Russian?

Nope. I have the feeling I might need to have a pretty big roster before this is all over with.

Since I only got 2 votes for game difficulty, and they were both for Classic, well..... it'll be done on Classic mode. Expect a bloodbath, people.
