Got Windows 7 working, pre-loading now! I'm just happy to have more X-Com.

EDIT: In fact I seem to be so happy that my nose just started bleeding. What the hell?!

Hell, yeah. The Elite Soldier Pack was finally added to the Steam Version. Man, does it make the guys look so much more bad-ass.

I'm tearing through my 360 and DVD library now, hoping to have enough trade-in value to grab it without spending any cash. This game came at me sideways - completely unaware - and has me in a bad, bad way...

Create desktop shortcut... nooooooo, so cruel...

I'm confused - wasn't that always the tier/reward one perk?

Yes, but it didn't actually get added into the Steam build until today. And since I didn't work on these armor sets, I never really got to play with them. But now that they are in, I can customize my guys even more. The squad looks so much better when they are in matching colors, with helmets!

It's all about the flat top haircut.

That's how I knew it was in. I started a mission and one of the soldiers in the Skyranger had the Guile haircut

Preloaded through GMG, saved the five bucks and I'm never one to look a free gift horse in the mouth.

Pre-loaded and good to go ;D

Ah okay! Is it okay if I tell you I hate you and all the Americans on here who are or will be playing the game days before I can?

Seriously though, I never understood why the US release dates are always mid-week. Friday or Monday releases make more sense to me.

Does the Guile hair give a razor kick ability? Sonic boom?

Does Edwin work at the studio too?!

I think it had to do with physical shipments and stocking of physical media. Same applies for movies and music.

Well 'I' think that because console owners didn't get a pre-launch demo they should get (pre-oders) Monday!:)

I noticed steam said it unlocks on Oct 8, and I was real excited. The I realized that it meant late at night, around 11:30 central time. Grrrr.....
All you west coasters will be able to play before work.....

So I wonder if being on paternity leave on the launch date is going to be a good thing or a bad thing...

Who needs sleep?

May be Ethereals close by.

Do the console versions get the ability to customize their soldiers, too?

I believe all pre-orders come with the Elite Soldier Pack, which gives you the bonus customization (Armour color, unique looking armor, helmets and Guile Hair)

Without that pack, you can still customize the name, hair, hair color, skin color, head, race and facial hair.

I need to make a team of all Guile's and turn this song on when a mission starts. The team would never lose.

For Steam, I think it's because they don't like working late hours. They release during normal working hours in the middle of the week, so their weekends aren't disrupted if something goes wrong.

For retail, I think they like to release early in the week so that, if there's a problem, they can get fixes or extra games or whatever out to retailers through normal channels within a day or two. UPS and Fedex charge a mint to deliver on Saturday, and won't pick up or deliver on Sunday at all, so Sunday is dead space, and Monday is deadish.

edit: In other words, if they release on Friday in meatspace, and some retailer sells out, or has defective games, or didn't get some tchotchkes they were supposed to, then they can't really respond until Monday; they lose Saturday and Sunday completely. That first week of sales is usually the biggest with most games, so they need to make sure they can fix problems fast.

Some games just sell and sell and keep selling, but those are very rare.

Malor, those reasons make sense. However, they don't explain why other regions differ.

Maybe it's just to give a few extra days to ship discs around the world (and the Steam unlock being pushed back to match)?

I pre-ordered the PC-DVD version from Amazon. As a prime member I should have the package on release day...so Amazon says. I want the actual disk for this game.

Yeah I'm starting to wish I had opted for the DVD version. I believe the Collector's Edition includes an nifty artbook and some other goodies. It's $60 with a $15 Amazon credit, which is not a bad deal actually.

You don't get the extra copy of the Civ V or TF2 items though, so YMMV.

I had a look at the game informer review. It was quite light, but made some points that I hadn't seen before. And I think it's a useful counterpoint to people's enthusiasm, including mine.

Is it here yet? No? Damn it.

Now? No. Crap.

Now? Dangnabit
