DayZ - ArmaII zombie mod

Died twice because I couldn't fire a pistol or swing a crowbar. It's equipped, what the hell?

make sure to hit F when you first get them to make sure they're 'loaded'

What do you mean by "when you first get them"? I think I tried hitting F to no avail. Got in a stupid fight with a Z while holding a pistol in front of me and throwing flares instead.

you hit f and it swaps between fire/modes and weapons. When you get a crowbar or an axe you sometimes have to hit F to swap to it and THEN load the crowbar/axe. Once done you'll see ammo assigned (a number like something around 99999)

I've been posting some vids to youtube on my channel from various play session on the CKW servers. Not just DayZ, but one of the guys is a pretty avid modder, there are a few vids up of a Hunger Games mod he has where everyone starts unarmed around a pile of weapon crates and have a battle royal. He also has another mod that has all weapons, vehicles, helos and planes respawning on the NW airfield for Chernarus and it is just a complete free for all. Fun getting to test out all the gear.

ARMA is a somewhat finicky server application to run; it has a tendency to crash and burn at the worst possible times. If Malor's going to pony up for dedicated hardware for it, we should have some backup folks on hand to act as administrators for the box, as it would be a pain to be the sole admin for an in-use server.

"F" cycles through your available fire-modes for things like assault rifles (Full-Auto, Burst, Semi), and though your available "weapons" (Flares, Empty Cans, Bottles, Grenades). This will display in your upper-right corner of the screen as:

AK-74/M4A1/M14-AIM (etc..)
Full/Burst/Semi # of Shots | # of Magazines (even your hatchet will show "Hack 99999" after you've "reloaded" it)

or

Grenade/Flare/Empty Can/Bottle/Chemlight (Colour)
Throw # of "Shots (and if you've equipped flares also: | # of Stacks of Flares (10 per stack))

I'm not sure if that helps Floomi. I should be on later today; maybe we can actually find eachother this time .

I've managed to get it working with the hatchet and sniper rifles, but crowbars and pistols have given me plenty of trouble. Feel free to message me on Vent if I'm around (it supports text chat, right?), although I may be busy eating delicious apple pie this evening.

You should be able to switch between your main and secondary weapons (rifles and pistols) by scorlling the mouse wheel and clicking it when the opposite weapon is highlighted on the left.

Obviously you have to have a pistol in your main inventory at the time.

Now, apple pie you say...

some pistols and the crowbar dont automatically arm/install/load (whatever term you want to use) You have to hit F to cycle through the weapons and fire options until you see crowbar along with an ammo count. Only then will it work.

One of my more recent engagements on the Takistan map. This truly is a brutal map, blood bags are pretty much nonexistent, there are no forests so you have to collect wood from within towns to cook meat, the Zs can see you from if feels like twice as far and there are a ton more of them.

Killed Cpl Reiber 2x in that video. Strikes me as a little odd. I know a time when I was on the CKW Takistan, there was a group of guys that sure seemed able to move around faster than I would expect. Especially on a fresh server-reboot. I hope that group is getting some "spectating" by admins.

nice to see i'm not the only there that has that ui problem when using an item from the inv the first time after loading in.

lol nice grenade toss at the end btw

Pretty cool video Redhwk. Nice work on taking out the bird.

I'm itching for some DayZ. I might be on late tonight (Central/Pacific), or a bit earlier on Saturday (early evening Central). Maybe on the CKW Takistan. Find me on Vent.

I felt the same way, but we talked on Lingor a couple nights back and you can see in his comments for the video that he said he spawned a town over at Sakhee http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=11642 you can see it just SW of the middle of the map, our engagement was just NW over a hill from there. He wasn't on the Osprey at all, and that is a legit spawn location as it is where I spawned after dying at the end of the showdown.

I rewatched my normal speed uncompressed video and could make him out on the hill just behind the compound just before I ran to loot the final body. He ran in and grabbed the Bizon that was on his teammates body inside the barracks and then came over to confront me.

So am I correct in the perception that a dedicated server isn't of much interest?

Not until the standalone I'd imagine.

Actually, a dedicated, private hive server would resolve the main issue of cheaters, wouldn't it?
I've seen folks here saying that they're itching to get back into DayZ but the cheating is what keeps them away.
So it would make sense as a stop-gap solution until the standalone comes out, I would think.
It seems to have made a big difference with guys like Sacriel.
But, as has been mentioned, keeping a server up and running and monitoring for cheaters who slip through the cracks requires a considerable amount of admin time.
Might be easier to just find an existing private hive and make it the new GWJ home, eh?

Yeah, I'd hate to say "go for it" and be inept @ trying to help out with any of the admin.

I'm not againt it in principle though. Then we'd get the debate over which map to run...

If anyone seems to have persistent issues authing with BattlEye and getting autokicked as a result, check your systray and see if PeerGuardian/PeerBlock/whatever is blocking the connection. I was fine playing on private, non-anti-cheat servers but if I tried connecting to official servers I got booted in short order because PB wasn't allowing me to register with BE. Disabled it and bam, everything worked.

I had to manually update battleye.

I played on Vigilant Addiction private hive for a while. They're pretty good i guess. I was enjoying lingor a lot though and it was mostly empty of players so i petered out. Lost interest after a couple hundred hours in Cherarus so didn't try it private hive.

It does solve most issues, but i'm still not going back until standalone and more gameplay features. Vigilant Addiction was running a number of private hive servers as of a few weeks ago though, probably still are.

I was under the impression taht we'd decided on the CKW servers. Private hives with multiple map options. They've been fun and steady the couple times i've been on and Red and others have been a regulars.

They did a DB wipe over the weekend and opened the servers backup to the general populous in hopes of getting more players, the Lingor server was constantaly 0/100 over the last week when I was jumping into game.

The CKW servers are definitely my new home, so much so I applied to join their clan.

Had the most embarrassing death earlier today, will update later.

for the standalone he talked about possibly being segregated server types. Normal/Hardcore...

Some stand-alone screen shots have been released. A little better than what I was expecting!

Ya, I'm actually missing this game. The first month or so we had with it was the most memorable gaming I've had in years.
