3DS Catch-all

I was fine on Revelations without the Circle Pad Pro. You know where my vote goes.

Maybe an action game? Any recommendations?

Kingdom Hearts?

You could try tracking down the Mega Man ZX games. I those were supposedly decent attempts at making a metroidvania style game for Mega Man.

Also, Shantae: Risky Revenge is supposed to be a good metroidvania.

Also also, aren't there new Mutant Mudds levels coming out soon?

Did you ever grab Aliens: Infestation Clocky? It's kind of like Contra meets Metroid. It's not as good as either franchise in either respect (Darksiders joke har har har?) but it's pretty fun. You just have to go in with the acceptance that characters will die but hey, you get to replace them.

Both Revelations and MGS3 are great provided you own 3DS Circle Pro (it is bundled with big box edition of Revelations). Since I played MGS3 before I prefer Revelations - just a great game, best Resi since 4 I would say.

The reviews I read of MGS 3D pin it as the weakest release of the game. Still a good game, but considering how many systems it's available on now I think you'd be better off playing it somewhere else.

Looks like there is a Nintendo Direct tonight focused on a couple 3DS games. Nintendo keeps springing these out of nowhere. I'm hoping that it's about 3DS OS 2.0 with MiiVerse and a unified account system.

Edit: It was just about NSMB2 DLC

There is also a Donkey Kong promo going on. I'll probably miss out since I'm getting a boxed copy of Paper Mario.

The Gold Coin pack looks fun. The Nerve Wrack pack looks like a nightmare for me. I could never get the hang of jumping from enemy to enemy in midair.

Oh man, that interaction between the gold flower and the P switch is brilliant!

omg, the Nerve Wrack Pack looks awesome.

North American release dates and prices haven't been set yet, but Nintendo of Japan has confirmed that the following retail games will be available as eShop downloads starting on November 1st:

  • Super Mario 3D Land
  • Mario Kart 7
  • Star Fox 64 3D
  • Ocarina of Time 3D
  • PilotWings Resort
  • Mario Tennis Open
  • Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games

I find the lack of Kid Icarus to be disappointing. The Japanese prices aren't lower than their MSRP, so as with New Super Mario Bros. 2, I don't expect that we'll see discounts on digital 3DS games. (Cue the "Nintendo just doesn't get it" posts.)

How did that do at retail? Maybe there's concerns from retail about not being able to clear the shelf of game + stand if they put a downloadable version online?

As much as I'm excited about being able to download games on Day 1 for a Nintendo system, for some reason I've not dived into this like I did with Steam. Maybe because I have a little messenger bag with 9 slots for DS games? That plus the lack of any real install time means it's not that more convenient... yet.

Nintendo just doesn't get it

Spoiler:

I will probably sell Theatrythm and MK7 then rebuy them digitally. I am a sucker.

It didn't do well, frankly. Less than 1 million units worldwide; 300,000 in North America. Which is a damn shame, because it's awesome. It's the game I most want digitally so that I can just play it whenever the mood strikes me.

For me at this point the appeal of digital purchases still lies in two areas: convenience at the point of sale, and ease of access. I really like being able to shop for and buy games while hanging out at home and to then be able to play them more or less immediately. I also like having games with a lot of unlockable content (like Kid Icarus: Uprising) quickly and easily available wherever I have my console so that if I feel like driving for an achievement or just tossing some eggs for Idols I can do that without having to switch out a cart.

I bought Kid Icarus...and I don't have a 3DS.

And financial situations have changed my plans, I might not be getting one.

BNice pretty much proves your point I think once I exceed my bag's capacity I'll have to seriously think about getting a bigger flash cartridge. Still not sure what my plan is with the Wii U though.

One thing to consider might be the size of the games as well. I don't know how Kid Icarus and Mario 3D Land compare in terms of data. On one hand I'd think maybe Mario 3D Land has a larger world, but at the same time there's a much larger variety of textures in Kid Icarus, not to mention all the audio used for voice acting. Is it possible the games they're choosing for digital download are of a smaller file size?

I'm just trying to think of potential reasons aside from "well I guess since the game didn't sell well..." I don't know how costly it is to get a game ready for digital download, but as it becomes all profit without needing to package the game and all...

That or it could be BECAUSE of the stand that they don't want to make it digital?

I'm 100% sure we will see Kid Icarus on the eshop at some point. The reason it's not coming with the rest of those games is probably because they plan on trickling out "old" releases like they do virtual console games to fill in slow periods of software.

That's my bet.

So this uh, game, is producing some buzz. "The Denpa Men: They Came By Waves"

For a less brain-melting and offputting look, it was featured in a joystiq Portabliss feature yesterday.

$10 on eShop. I've put a freeze on gaming purchases at the moment but I kind of need to see what this is about.

Edit: Apparently there's a demo but the eShop is currently down for maintenance.

Etrian Odyssey IV is coming to NA in 2013

http://atlus.com/etrian4/

The only thing I know about the series is that it's supposed to be super hard. I think the 8-4 crew said the newly implemented "casual" mode is more like "normal" in any other game.

Wooooooooooooooooo!

So much 3DS news lately. This is all for NA.

Sequel to Pushmo called Crashmo - Nov. 22
The Guild01 games are coming to the eShop separately before 2013

Oct 18th on the eShop. $39.99 each.
Super Mario 3D Land
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
Star Fox 64 3D
Mario Kart 7 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Virtual Console
Mario Golf
Castlevania: The Adventure
Ninja Gaiden
Zelda II – The Adventure of Link
Wario Land II
Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels

Edit: Link with way more info

I should get back into Pushmo. I was enjoying it and don't know why I stopped.

Also headed to the eShop are: Night Sky, a physics-based puzzle-platformer; Fluidity: Spin Cycle, another physics-based puzzle-platformer that's a sequel to the awesome WiiWare game Fluidity; and another version of Cave Story.

Plus demos for Adventure Time, Epic Mickey, and some other stuff.

I really feel like the eShop has a pretty strong lineup these days. I'm impressed.

Code of Princess on Tuesday.

My evenings will should even be free(ish) next week if anyone wants to co-op.

I'm pretty excited about this. A crazy mecha thing from Suda 51, a puzzle game from Yoot Saito, and a RPG thing from Matsuno. Yes, please!

I don't know if it's a good or bad thing but the two things I am excited for on the 3ds is Mario Golf and Crashmo otherwise there's not a whole lot else for me.

("Tetsuo"-voice:) MATSUNO!

And how! 11,000-odd coins on my first attempt. There are some crazy-fun interactions in there between gold rings, gold fire flowers, and all the other things used to generate coins.

I just found a Dark Note in Theatrhythm that reliably gives 2 magic pots for the Boss 2 battle. I ran it with EXP Hound on Cecil at level 50, he got 19,000 XP and gained 25 levels in 1 song. That was awesome!

Atlus is upping the PR for Code of Princess, and I'm liking what I see. Unlockable characters? Yes. Smooth animation? Yes. I just hope the online isn't laggy and/or full of stupid notices you have to click past each time you log on. Code of Princess and AC3 Liberation will keep me going well into 2013.

So, I was excited about Code of Princess and picked up my pre-order during lunch. This is different.

I want to feel annoyed that I'll be grinding again, but it's gorgeous and charming. One of the Cut Scenes might even be one of my most memorable gaming moments this year after only a few levels. But I'm going to be grinding again.

My one online co-op was kind of laggy and mismatched, too. But, again, it was only the one match so far.
