GWJ-ATX 2013: Third Monday Movies

I was in CS for the last game, and I know MBHz was as well, though we didn't meet up. I'm playing the role of dad with 3 year old girl at games, which is pretty sweet. Might could meet up at other times, though.

Sorry about that... I was trying to coordinate between my own two girls, my sister, and the group I was at the game with (including my boss). Hectic, to say the least.

First of all, thanks to all who came to the events and activities earlier this year. They were fun and I enjoyed meeting you all.

As for the future, I tried, but between work and GWJFFL, I've had all the cat-herding I can stand. I tried to back it off but all that did was kill the little momentum I had left. Should someone pick up the mantle, I promise to keep the OP updated and try to make it out to some events, but as for the organizing, I'm done.

That being said, there are two activities this month that I'll drop here in case anyone is interested.

As mentioned previously, koshnika hosts, or is somehow otherwise involved in, a fairly large UT tailgate. I understand it's easily big enough to absorb a few more people. On 10/20 is the Baylor tailgate. Entrance fee is $20. If interested, PM koshnika for details.

On the same day, local brewer Jester King is having their Second Annual Funk n’ Sour Fest. If you like funky beer, tickets are $30 each and there are only 350 of them being sold. Click the link for more information and, if you're interested, PM Boogle who already has his ticket.

Of course, you're welcome to use the thread to discuss and coordinate and I've pretty much just sent you to Boogle and Koshnika without their permission so... sorry?

Oooohhh, I thought I had missed this. That isn't one of my 3 day weekends but, seeing as the game is on a Sat I still might be able to make it.

Does this mean I'll have no one to hang with when I come to town next month?

Not at all. I'm happy to gather, just less keen on the herd wrangling. As long as I don't have a prior obligation, we'll hang.

We need to bring this sh*t back or it's back to the hermit life for me.

Road trip to Houston!

I'll be there one Sunday in November, watching every Jaguar offensive lineman except Eugene Monroe get punked.

Do look us up!

We should have planned something for Austin Comic Con.

I'll be in Austin at the end of the week with nothing to do after around 5:00 PM Friday. Who's up for a Goodjer gathering Friday evening? For geographical reference, I'm staying at the Austin Airport Hilton. So, a place that's not too far off the beaten path from there would be great.

Hrmm. How open to travel into town are you Oldman? There is not much out by the Airport Hilton except fast food, clubs of the gentleman's persuasion, and other hotels. I believe you can get a shuttle from the Airport to downtown if so, there is a Lot to do down on 6th street or 4th or the Warehouse district.

You're staying at the AAH, but is that where you'll be come 5:00 on Friday?

Other than not knowing my way around, travel is not a problem. I'm driving down, so I'll have my own vehicle.

Grump, yes I'll be at the hotel Friday. I'm staying there Friday night and driving back Saturday morning. I might free up a bit before 5 but not completely sure.

Ok, I wasn't sure if the event was at the conference center, for example. Hopefully, some of the other locals will chime in and pick a place and then I'll try to work it in to my schedule.

Bueller?

See? Now you know why this thing fell apart. They're all a bunch of anti-social curmudgeons.

I was originally planning on skipping my soccer game but I found out last Friday that our regular keeper won't make it and I'm the backup.

Im good for a beer or three.

Hey. I had an honest to goodness wedding on Friday to Sunday. Which is my excuse for missing Austin Comic con.

Already have convinced my brother(the one whose wedding caused me to miss comic con) to go next year.

In the mean time, beers are always good, but will need to get clearance for leaving the wife with the kiddos. Also, not really good on the suggestions, we're way up here in north austin. Blackstar coop was good. Went there recently with some buddies who just came into town.

Beer is good. Where and when?

Let's start at Doc's Motorworks. It's nothing fabulous, but it's close enough to the office that I can hopefully drag Boogle and Bonus_Eruptus over to say hi. The earlier, the better as I'll have to leave about 6:15 or so for soccer. If the night goes late enough, I'm willing to come back down afterwords. I'll PM you my number.

Had a good time meeting Grumpicus, Boogle, Bonus_Eruptus, and cohorts last night. Thanks for the beers, guys! Looking forward to doing it again sometime.

I maintain that pitcher of Blue Moon was expensive.
And my original estimate was only off by 50 cents.

We had some good times in 2012...

This year, I'm eliminating -- or at least reducing -- the amount of hassle. Both the activity and the time will be fixed!

On the third Monday of every month, I will be going to the movies. It will be a venue that also serves food (i.e. either an Alamo Drafthouse or Flix Brewhouse) and the time will be 8pm, give or take based on the schedule. The only thing left will be to decide which movie and which venue. These will be based on the consensus of those committed to attendance. Specifics will be selected and posted one week in advance (i.e. on the 2nd Monday of the month) so get your two cents in before then.

So does anyone want to go see a movie?

Sounds good to me.

I would love to; will you pay for me to move back to Texas?

Send me your resume and I'll see what I can do.
