Guild Wars 2 Guild organization thread.

Can we make the guild stash free to take again? It's overflowing with stuff that isn't worth more than 2s each, except for the actual money. Is it possible to just lock down the money and everything else free for grabs?

Well, I have the unfortunate curcumstance to have a Mac (Don't laugh! It was a deal with my wife), but I will buy a copy and join the Mac beta soon. I hope once the beta is over, I can come to you all's server. I am really looking forward to playing the game with a good group.

Any hints for a newb player?

Mac players play the same game, so it's the same servers etc. Make sure you sign up on Northern Shiverpeaks so you can join us in WvW.

The game can be pretty opaque, but a bit of patience, asking questions in guild chat and the odd bit of checking the wiki will go a long way.

Try a bunch of classes, see what appeals and go from there. Make sure to level up as many weapons as you can for the classes you try as they make huge differences to the skills you access and how the class plays.

Not the way the permissions are currently designed. If you get access to a container (stash/trove/cave) you get access to its items and gold.

We should have the Cave expansion within a day or two. Once that happens, we'll move all of the stuff from Stash into the Cave (and therefore free to take), and leave Stash locked for withdrawals. I'm tempted also to move the handful of yellows/oranges we have into Stash, just for a bit of safe keeping -- what do you all think?

For the record, my concern is not about our regular members taking these things... my concern is that we now have 300+ members, and it would take only one of them to have an account stolen by some password cracker, to take everything we've accumulated.

Sounds to me like a good argument for having someone trustworthy hold the guild gold on their account so that people can get the items while this is sorted out.

I had been donating everything green or better that dropped for me to the guild bank. If folks have to ask to get it, there's no point. I've been in multiple games/guilds before to see that the whole "just ask for it" bit isn't all that simple, even if for no other reason than officers may want to actually play the game instead of sitting between a banker and the mailbox.

Yes, this is a good idea. Separate places for free-for-all loot trading and high end stuff and gold is a good solution.

Well I bought a Key, but It is a EU key, which means apparently, I can not log in from the US. I have not used it, and have asked the seller for a refund, but no word for a few hours. *Sigh*

EDIT: The reply I got was "Use a Proxy Server", which, quite honestly I do not know how to do. I just need to pass a check once showing I am in the EU on registration, but honestly, this is turning out to be too much a bother for saving a few bucks.

There's no EU/US client split, you just change the world in the home screen.

*edit*

Read your post again, sorry. To be honest I don't understand the problem.

It should be as simple as creating a GW2 account and entering the key, then downloading the client, so I don't understand what the struggle is.

From Arenanet's support page:

For customers in the North American and European regions, upon registration our servers will perform a one-time check to ensure your serial code matches the region you are connecting from. Customers in North America must register the North American version of the game; customers in Europe must register the European version of the game; customers in other regions may register either version. When you purchase the game from buy.guildwars2.com, you automatically will receive the correct version of the game.

Ah, okay. Sorry about that. Need to get out of the habit of posting off my phone when I'm distracted. Hopefully you come right with the seller.

I'm playing on Mac and so far so good with exception of WvW. It crashes when there are too many players on screen.

Well, I am disputing the charge with my card company.

Meanwhile, I bought it someplace else got myself registered for an account, and added my name to the google doc.

Looking forward to playing with you all.

I do PvE on my Mac too. I do have bootcamp installed too, so I play WvW and other stuff on Windows. You can install Ventrilo for Mac too if you want voice chat.

Just did the Google docs thing for a guild invite... rolling my first MMO character since giving up WoW when my daughter was born a few years ago... will need all the help I can get!

I still think it's unnecessary and kind of insulting to the normal members. Items in the bank are meant to be taken by anyone. If we're worried about having an item stolen by a hacker or an unscrupulous new member, that item shouldn't be in the guild bank to begin with. I think Elycion's idea is a good one, have all the stuff we actually care about keeping stored by someone trustworthy (one of the leaders, perhaps on an alt character made just for storing high-end loot and money). I'd like to repeat my suggestion that if it's decided that we have to keep part of the bank off-limits to members, it should be the stash, and it should be done ASAP instead of waiting for the cave to finish. All it will take is for a leader to take the money out of the trove and put it into the stash and change the permissions. As it is, no one's requested anything out of the bank while I've been playing. It's quite a hassle with the guild stuff not working in LA (it's like we're in an overflow, but there's no message about it).

I don't disagree that items in the bank can and should be used by anyone -- I'm only suggesting that there should be a small line of defense between public access and total looting via a stolen account. Every other MMO I've played with a formal guild bank has had restrictions similar to this, and none of them I found to be overbearing.

Regardless, the Deep Cave is complete. I've moved everything from the Stash into the Cave, and swapped permissions so that Members should now have full access to the Trove/Cave, and restricted access to Stash. I did not move yellows/oranges into Stash as I mentioned earlier... it's just holding money now.

Howdy...I am Tolar.4365 and sure could use an invite!

Hello hello,

first time poster to the forum, long time listener to the GWJ podcast.
I've been hearing so many good things about the community here I thought I might take the chance and the plunge.
I'm looking for a laid back and relaxt guild that's willing to help each other out but also with a strong EU presence. I've tried a couple of guilds now and the guild chat is nothing but quiet, quiet, quiet all the time. More chat in the /map chat. Can anyone in the know let me know how that is here?
I'm an up and down casual gamer, male, 36 with a job :).

I can't say how big our EU presence is, but we are laid back and relaxed. Guild chat usually has people chatting, but sometimes goes silent due to everyone being focused on what they're doing.

There are a couple of us in EU time zones, would be nice to have another. As Stengah says, sometimes there's chatting, sometimes chatting gets you a repair bill, but it's not usually silent for long.

Thanks for the replies. Have added my information to "The List" as mentioned in the first post. Will add my info here as well just to be sure:

Nice of them to still have free server transfers :).
Am playing a lvl 24 elementalist who isn't very quick in changing attunement because of this silly wireless MAC keyboard with its silly weird function keys that don't seem to work without pressing another key. Bah.

MAC client is working brilliantly so far though. Yay.

I started off with an Elementalist (lvl 8 now) and have been playing with 2 daggers. I have been really impressed with the burst damage from the Air and Fire trees. I tend to use water more when there are events with other players around to take more advantage of the debuffs and healing, but I admittedly could use it better overall. Earth, I have not figured out yet (except for the marvels of stacking bleeds), but just got it, so I have some time.

Survivability has been an understandable issue with a cloth wearer at close range. I try to focus on quick takedowns, but I could perhaps do more with maneuverability.

I perhaps would like to try a necro too, but I am still having lots of fun, so I am not in a rush.

I think there are also a few gwjers stateside that have irregular playing hours (early mornings or late nights) that might be compatible with EU players.

That's true. I've never logged on and been alone.

I use a wireless BT Mac keyboard and I haven't had any problems with it.

Huh, that's odd. Can you just press the F1 - F4 keys to switch without also pressing the fn keys? The keyboard my girlfriend has is one of those official silvery small things.

edit: ha, fixed. There was a setting in preferences you can select to switch the function keys around. Works like a charm now.

edit2: yay gods. I just tried WvW for the first time and I felt completely lost. Gods. Back to PvE it is for the moment.

Excellent. That was going to be my next recommendation. I forgot about that in my first reply.

You should try to get on with other gwjers. There is another thread about the Saturday night WvW group. It's much more fun (and easier) when you play WvW with others (and use Vent to communicate.

I'm one of those players. I tend to log on early morning US East Coast time, and only sporadically during "prime" time. Usually there's at least five of us online.
