Torchlight 2 Catch-All

Good to know. Thanks.

So there's an exploit that lets you buy items for the buyback price, or also for free. It's also quite bad in that you can see what the random item merchant is selling, which can be rare/unique items.

Apparently will be patched next patch.

Spoiler:

Drag an item onto the buyback tab, then let go of the mouse. Buyback will open, but you'll still be dragging the item. Drop it into an empty slot and voila.

To get it free, do the same maneuver but drop it on the X that closes the store window. Then you'll still be dragging and can drop the item on the ground.

Only caveat is you can't drag the item to start with if you don't have the purchase price covered.

Played around with one random store just to see it work. Pretty crazy. Have to resist the temptation or it will make things too easy.

Is resetskills a command that marks you as a suspicious player?

Tried an Elite Hardcore Engineer tonight. Made it to level 7 and still haven't died.

I don't appear to have access to my shared stash though. Is that from the Hardcore flag?

That made things a little rougher as I had definitely been passing stuff into the stash that would work on an engy later. Oh well.

It's too intense to play all the time. There were a couple segments I didn't think the potion was going to kick in on time. Or another time I ran out of potions, but the purple I was fighting dropped like 4, so I was able to continue. Fun for a while, but have to rotate back to non-hardcore characters most of the time.

If there was some possible way to recover loot or whatever, that would be cool. Like joining the dead character's world and tracking down their corpse to loot. Otherwise I can't see doing this more than once. It's going to hurt to lose stuff whenever it happens.

I think I may have set my difficulty too high to start out with. I chose "Veteran" because I had played Fate and TL1, but the game feels like a potion chugging contest most of the time. And with no re-spawning enemies, I can't go back and pad my levels at all. That and the no-respec thing makes the game feel just a bit too unforgiving for me to enjoy. Should I knock the difficulty down? Are people chugging potions all the time like me? I feel like I'm doing something wrong. (2-handed Engineer in Act II, splitting 1vit/2dex/2str pretty much every level)

I've played two classes to 14, one to 6, and one to 22ish and it seems to me that outlander is by far the hardest character...just doesn't seem to output enough damage.

Dunno. I played Normal Berserker up to 17 or so, basically finished Act 1, and I may have used 1-2 potions ever. Normal seems way too easy.

But my Vet Embermage is up to 39 or 40 now. Vet feels about right most of the time. I think you might just need a respec to focus your skills. The only respec mod I've seen is actually a shared stash replacement filled with potions. It's probably as easy to just enable the console and use the resetskills command.

So I'm a bit confused. IN the popup tooltip, it says strength increases weapon damage. But that doesn't go for guns and bows does it? Wouldn't dexterity increase that damage?

Enemies in dungeons to respawn so you can go back to those over and over again. Not in the main game world I don't think, but the dungeons off of it.

I use a potion or 2 during boss fights. The rest of the time only if I'm not paying attention.

It's for all weapons.

To redo areas can't you just start a new internet game and say "reset world" or something? I think there's an option close to that, it's early so I could be lying.

Well my engy hit his first big snags last night crazy goblin and yeti filled dungeon... amusingly it was not the bosses that gave me trouble but the ice mage yetis. Those seeking ice tornados are killer. Rip through a fully charged shield and proc shield like they aren't there and the healing bot and potions barely kept me going. Definitely a few deaths.

Aha. I did not realize that. I may also try to reset some skills if that doesn't seem to help. Thanks.

Used the console to RESETSKILLS this morning. Aaah, all is good in the world again.

It sounds like I have a different build but I also struggled with that area as well a couple nights ago as an engineer. My setup is based on quick 1-hand weapons to get Overcharge, and then beat down the enemies with that plus Dervish spell, blowing all the built up charge in lots of Flame Hammer attacks. It works great when I am at full speed as I get tons and tons of hits + lots of fully charged flame hammer attacks.

The killer in that dungeon is that the ice breath dudes would slow me down to the point where I couldn't attack fast enough to proc Overcharge, so my damage output would slow down considerably. Healbot was just too slow to keep up with the ice damage spells, and I was too slow to run away from them.

Even with a relatively quick two-handed sword with a lot of DoTs it was baaaaad. Finally got through it with single step forward pulls but ouch. Was nice to be back out of there and tearing through goblins again. May have to try resetskills soon though and go onehanded for overcharge. Got a nice shield and two swords that are both unique.

Not for me. I have a hard time figuring out which attacks I want to own my foes with. I can go with the poison breath that spawns minions, I can fire up my bow and use the poison explosion and bat summons on death to kill things, or I can use my seeking triple shot to kill things.

I am using a bow BTW so that may be the difference? (2 str, 2 dex 1 vit on level up)

Yes, though that only matters if you're pubbing... which I don't think you should ever do.

Ever.

I ran with with Seismic Slam, Ember Hammer, Healing Bot, Gun Bot, Overload, and and Tremor for skills. Lots of close combat AOE. Guys get near then pop Seismic Slam, Tremor, and Overload. Not much survives that. Eventually added Earthquake and Immobilization Copter. Most of the skills had 5 points or more in them. High damage, rarely ever ran out of mana, and didn't need defence because everything died when it got near me. The Gun Bot was great when its cool down was reduced.

Anyway to add sockets to existing items??

There is a vendor that does that but the only one I have found was out in the wild and not in any town.

You'll randomly find a guy out in the environment that can do it. Otherwise, no, I don't think so. Take advantage when you find him.

ahh cool.. good to know.. maybe I'm not deep enough in yet to have found him.

You can add a socket to completely unlocked items in town.

eh? what do you mean by unlocked?

You can add a socket to completely unsocketed items in town.

Speaking of sockets the other day I had a socketed item filled with gems, and wanted to recover the gems. Imagine my horror when, instead of a pack full of gems, he returned to me a pristine weapon full of empty sockets. OOOF.

My goodness, you can't wait 30 seconds for an edit?

Who does this?

*wince* EVERY time I go to do that I'm TERRIFIED I went to the wrong guy and double check.

Yeah, it was getting late. It was a good sign I needed to turn in for the night. This happened right after I spent the money to respec a skill point and accidentally put the point back into the same skill again.
