Goojers with job opportunities

Ok this is a longshot, but I've hired from the GWJer pool before and that wasn't the worst thing ever (Hi, Oily!), so what the heck.

I'm looking for a person or couple to manage Ravenwood Castle. Hospitality experience is preferred, but isn't an absolute must. I'm a big believer that the key to hiring is finding talented people with the right inherent attitudes and personalities. Specific skills can be taught from there.

The original job posting is below. I'm going to be modifying it a bit and re-posting it on some job boards shortly, but thought I'd give you guys first crack at it.

Tempting, Teneman. What is your policy on only saying "Hodor" to the guests?

Hodor!

Hodor Hodor Hodor, Hodor Hodor?

Hodor. Hodor Hodor Hodor.

Hodor!

I've been doing that for a week now, works great! Except for that one guy that tried to have his kid ride me around...

I suspect he'll be getting his just rewards soon.

Ooooooh. Too bad I am going the IT route, otherwise my decade of experience in the food service industry (waitstaff, bartending, catering, and managing a restaurant) would come in really handy here. I really wouldn't mind getting back east either.

Java Software Engineer (Mira Mesa)
There is an immediate position available for an Enterprise Java Software Engineer to contribute in the design and development of cutting edge cashiering systems. The OLCS Division develops distributed cashiering systems for retail, healthcare, higher education and municipalities using some of the latest java technologies. If you have some of the qualifications listed below, contact SalePoint to build your career and our products.

Requirements: BS Computer Science or equivalent. 3+ years experience developing software using Java required. Experience with the following tools and technologies desired: GWT, SWT, Spring, Hibernate, EJB 2 & 3, Servlets, JSP, UML, JPOS, WebSphere, Tomcat, Rational Rose, Enterprise Architect, SQL, Oracle, JUnit

I'm not directly involved in this but I might be able to put a good word in, assuming the position hasn't been filled yet.

Next week my workplace, the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission (http://www.niagarafallsbridges.com), will be putting out a job posting for a Computer Programmer / Systems Analyst. If you're interested in knowing more, send me a PM. I'll also probably update this thread / post with the actual job posting when it goes live.

Ok, since I'm trying to hire for someone for the Castle, I figure I might as well throw in a position at the law firm. Wouldn't want the day job feeling left out now, would we?

I have an opening in my IT department. The position is primarily Help Desk, with a pinch of network administration thrown in. Add a dash of project management for flavor. It's a small department, so you kind of end up doing a bit of everything. We're a group of high power attorneys who like to argue a lot, so ability to deal with strong personalities without losing it is a must. Located in Cleveland, high atop the Erieview Tower. Lovely view of the inside of a server room...

PM me if you're interested, and we can make arrangements for the whole exchange of resumes and such.

I'm looking for a web development person to make a simple registration page for pencon.

Ideally, this would be voluntary (since pencon is all volunteers and any money we make goes to child's play) but we can maybe come to a financial arrangement if we need to.

This would maybe lead into a redesign of the existing pencon site for next year and possibly a regular gig but first thing's first, we need to get this year's registration up =)

Please PM me if interested.

My company is hiring for a number of positions in Charleston or Greenville, SC for:

  • Senior .Net engineers
  • Senior and Mid-level Java engineers
  • Project Managers (All levels)
  • Senior QA Analysts
  • Senior Interaction Engineers
  • Sales Engineers - In Oregon and San Francisco
  • Senior Business Analysts - EDI/XML literate

Let me know if anything sounds good. It's a nice place to work and the Charleston tech-industry is really blowing up these days. They call it Silicon Harbor. Which is equal parts ridiculous and flattering.

My company is looking for a Developer Operations/Application Server Analyst position. It has a fairly large range of resposnibilites including release management, TFS management, server administration, and DBA. We are a web-based software company in downtown Chicago. Send me a PM if interested and I can send you more info.

Our company is looking for an entry-to-mid level business intelligence consultant for our San Diego office. All consultants are involved in a full software implementation (not development) cycle, from planning, implementation customization, ETL scripting, data normalization, data analysis, report generation, occasional training, and level 2/3 technical support.

The boss prefers someone with a comp sci degree or MIS with a strong core GPA and courses taken in database management/programming/scripting. He's open to other majors but would need to be impressed with a strong understanding of data flows, general scripting knowledge, Linux scripting, and understanding of relational databases. Nothing too fancy but he would expect you to know how to link a given set of tables with primary keys and determine the optimal data flow. All our scripting/programming is done via our proprietary scripting language on Linux terminals, so knowing what shell scripts and cron jobs are and some Perl would be a plus.

I'd say the time spent between doing technical work and project/customer management is 50/50, so being comfortable on the phone with CTO, CFO, VP, and Director level customers is a must. That's been our biggest challenge, finding someone with the technical chops who can patiently handle talking through data and reporting with a CFO who might not be the most technical person in the organization but will be signing the contract and demands to know what he or she is paying for.

We're a close knit mid-sized company, privately owned, no outside investors, and operate in growing business sectors. During the economic downturn we never had job cuts and still saw steady growth.

PM me for more details.

MSU Communications and Public Affairs web division is looking for someone to help run and manage our new CMS (so new in fact that we haven't purchased it yet!).

http://www.montana.edu/jobs/classified/12-243

Tragically, it is Bozeman Montana, so there's the scenery tax - expensive town for meh pay, but the location is second to none for outdoors stuff. It's a good place to work though, good group of people over in CPA, and this position has quite a lot of ability to affect some serious change to our web presence.

Note, on the off chance someone is interested, pm me and I can coach a bit - MSU hiring is a bit more than just sending in a resume.

My team is looking for two more members. We do mobile (80% iOS, 20% android) development for Army Game Studios, the same studio that makes the America's Army game. However, so far, our apps are not games. We release mostly internal apps, but we do some public facing ones such as this comic app.

The first position is for someone with design skills, with hopefully some programming to augment. This would be designing UI, implementing prototypes and concepts, and helping realize the final product. Any experience level is welcome here.

The second position is for a junior to mid level programmer, with experience in iOS (preferably) or android.

All positions are in Huntsville, AL, with some relocation assistance provided. Huntsville has a low cost of living for the pay provided, and is growing well.

I hesitate to ramble on further for fear that no one is interested. If you are interested or just want to know more, pm me.

The place where I work is looking for front end and back end developers. This is in Raleigh, NC.

The front end position is all about HTML/CSS and some Flash.

The back end position is all about python/django.

If you are interested, shoot me a PM and I can give you more specific information about the job!

Serious warning, these positions report to me.

It's harsh butt-fair.

It's finger-->butt fair...

The University of Texas School of Public Health is hiring a Systems and Application Specialist II/III.

http://jobs.uth.tmc.edu/applicants/C...

This basically boils down to a server and desktop support position. We are a post-graduate institution located in downtown Houston in the Texas Medical Center. Depending on your experience and skillset the job is anywhere from 40-80% desktop support with a generous helping of server-related projects. Because we are a research institution, we get to play around with new tech more than most private sector tech departments. The faculty and staff are great, the benefits are good, and despite a grueling commute (my choice, you could live closer) I've kept coming back every day for seven years now.

Apply at the link above or, if you want more info, feel free to PM me.

Still hiring developers, but I'm also now looking for a program manager:

http://blacklocus.theresumator.com/a...

So I don't actually work there (yet, fingers crossed), but there is a very large number (over 100 at one point!) of tech-oriented jobs of all levels open here at VGT (Video Game Technologies), a company that builds video slot/bingo/poker machines for various casino markets. Everyone I've met with so far has been quite nice. Mostly located in Williamson County, TN, which is supposedly the richest county in America when adjusting for cost of living. There sure are a lot of nice cars around here, at any rate. Some also listed in Reno, NV and Tulsa, OK. Full listings here.

I'm not sure if quoting myself will cause a rip in the space time continuum or anything, but here goes:

I originally put this position up back in June, but then put it on hold as I thought I had an alternate solution - I basically outsourced much of the IT function. That may or may not be working, but for a variety of reasons it's time to re-post this position.

Just to be clear, this position is for the law firm, not the castle.

Does working for the law firm net you any castle discounts?

And don't tell my current job this but you'll have a goodjer resource for quick questions about that environment.

Mentioned it in the Joy of Programming thread, but my team is looking for a UI Engineer. If you know HTML, JS, and CSS, PM me.

EDIT: Also, we just learned that a guy who had accepted our Senior Engineer opening decided not to take it for some reason, so that position is now open as well.

I introduced Susan to Stackoverflow Careers, but she wouldn't give me the referral bonus for any hires from there. Totes bullsh*t.

Also, your daughters' college is probably already paid for with all your referrals for this year.
