It must be fall in Oregon, as I had to engage in glorious battle with 3 arachnids of unusual size over the weekend.

AOUS's? I don't think they exist.

I continue to maintain that jumping spiders do not belong in this thread. They're too adorable.

“This was a male wasp that suddenly found itself trapped in a spider web,” Poinar said. “This was the wasp’s worst nightmare, and it never ended. The wasp was watching the spider just as it was about to be attacked, when tree resin flowed over and captured both of them.”

...

Its large and probably terrified eyes now stare for eternity at its attacker, moving in for the kill.

Until the Fringe team extracts them from the Amber.

What's that it's attacking? Some sort of water skimmer?

What really disturbs me about that picture isn't the spider they show. It's the single leg of the GIANT spider next to it.

The freeze-frame image of predator attacking prey is not the only interesting feature in the fossil, however. The amber held both an adult and a juvenile spider, and the researchers write that the two of them together represents the "first fossil evidence of sociality in spiders."

That. is. AWESOME!

OMG that would be the ultimate Halloween "thing". I've got nothing that I could do that with but damn, what a perfectly done effect.

You obviously don't shave your head. The Sun becomes something to respect with all gravity.

Absolutely. I was not being sarcastic. I have some formal black bandanas myself.

It rained the whole weekend.
