Pony Up for Ponies - Achieved!

For what it's worth, my thought on the booze article isnt actually "Hendricks Gin with FTL" but rather to use that as a conceit to write about alcoholism, addiction, dopamine response to virtual stress, and games as PTSD therapy. I already have 3 guys I want to interview on it.

Yeah, that's a spin that I agree has mad potential. Years ago I was digging through articles on the use of virtual worlds for returning soldiers to reduce PTSD. As interesting as the concept was then I can't imagine how much it's evolved since. I can completely see how this has potential far beyond "BEER IS GOOOOOOOOD."

Spoiler:

Beer is good.

I voted for Epic Mickey II, but only because I want independent confirmation that Sean Vanaman and others dug up the ground work for making a game about Oswald for Disney, long before Warren Spector became involved in the project. Not that I have a reason not to believe Vanaman, or that I think Spector (creator of Thief and Deus Ex) has been insincere about the genesis of the game (as far as I've read); but because the whole meandering story of how a project goes from idea to finished product, and all of whose hands it might surprisingly pass through, would be a fascinating one, and not a story we often get with PR-leashed interviews, previews, and dev diaries, and an almost total dearth of investigation and in-depth retrospectives.

But I'm also fine with letting the rabbit decide.

I've closed the voting. With 40 votes in, the top choices are (in descending order of total votes):

1. Let the wily Rabbit choose for himself
2. The collapse of games journalism print-media
3. Alcohol & Gaming (and the various incarnations around this topic)

Some write-in candidates:
1. League of Legends & the Rise of E-Sports (my guess is a LoL Fan)
2. The Cruelty vs. Generosity Paradox

I'm ignoring the suggestions for Steel Battalion or Phantom Dust (Edwin).

Thoughts on how people want to proceed? Just let Rabbit choose? Have a 2nd vote with options limited to top 3: 1 vote per pledgearino, limited to pledge participants? Go to the pub & discuss?

As someone who didn't get into the pledge (it went so quick, I thought I had more time) my suggestion would be one vote per pledge since you guys are the one who paid for the privilege.

I'd say lets just go with the one that come out on top. So let Rabbit choose.

I think article #2 should be Mists of Pandaria. So say we all?

That sounds like a good plan to me.

I second this.

Y'all DO have some time here. I'm doing the interviews for SOTMC right now, but it'll probably be a few weeks before that ones fully baked.

Assholes.

Do we have 2 articles, or just the first? I'd vote for the first being his attempt at gleaning meaning out of Sparkle Ponies stuff. The second, whatever he wants (as compensation). I trust him to do a bang-up job with a crazy theme like ponies.

Maybe he'll enjoy Sparkle Ponies enough to do a second article on that subject.

Maybe this is the beginning of a dark rabbit hole (no pun intended) where he becomes addicted to that game.

I think this is what the kids call "tough love" right?

I wrote in the LoL suggestion, and I am definately not a fan - I've never played it in fact. However, at PAX the single biggest hall was devoted to the game and more and more people have gotten into watching videogames as sports. Rabbit clearly loves the game, and I believe has talked about watching games online (hmm, could have been Sands). Anyway, I was choosing for him, not me, because I thought he'd be interested.

No matter - let the Rabbit decide.

I wasn't digging on you, I said that merely because as a complete outsider to both LoL & E-Sports it was an contemporary pick given the driver of the rise which i thought was Starcraft.
And you're right. He is a big fan!

Mmmmmmm, fully baked assholes

Everyone who had an escrow payment pending has come through; so I've sent along the last bit o' funds to the overlords. Which of course pushed them up over the $20k threshold.

I don't know if Elysium has already updated everyone's profile, but your usernames and pledge amounts were sent over a few days ago for credit.

My Wiener Bomb confirms your awesomeness. Thanks for escrow duties Hedge!

Awesome. Thanks for doing that.

(really just posting to see if I have a car)

Edit: Doh

Probably too late to toss this into consideration, but the recursiveness of having Rabbit write about Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit seems like too good an opportunity to pass up.

Sokay, I don't have my bomb yet, either.

I don't have a vote, but what about Devil Bunny Needs a Ham?

I think that, after the Sparkleponies article, Devil Bunny Hates the Earth might be more appropriate

You were in the 2nd set of names, and they may not have updated yes (since payment was made this morning).

I figured that as well, but I wanted to make sure since we did not donate the normal way.

I can (& will) follow-up with Sean since he is the master of the keys.

I have yacht to see any change from my plain old icon.

Or I'm still waiting for my ship to come in.

Or I have jet to see my boat, esse.

It takes a while to get everyone listed and tagged. Latest update here!
