Either I've been playing too much D3 or they're just not that good. But the game is still a lot of fun.

Yeah it feels worse than the original Torchlight to be honest, but they're probably about the same, just feels worse after the progress we've had in the last few years. The first game was actually pretty neat looking in a cartoony way, this one doesn't have that charm for me yet, but then I've barely scratched the surface.

And like you say, the game itself is still great.

I enjoy the look of it really. From my perspective the best comparison i could make wouls be vanilla WoW to Wrath of the Lich King. Not a whole new generation of graphical engine, but certainly better looking than it was a few years back.

Also... i love my two handed engy with support bots. the healing bot with mana pulses... both damage passives from the damage tree and some health steal and regen gems and i barely have to stop other than to loot.

They aren't in the same style as D3, but much better than T1. Crisper, but still cartoony.

I disagree completely - almost to the opposite. Funny how different perceptions are.

Disagreed so much I had to emphasize with a double post.

Yeah, i'm much more into this one than TL1, not sure why. It's REALLY good.

My sentiments exactly. Grabbed me more than D3 did right out of the gate. Both are great but T2 out Diablos D3 in my book.

I love this game. I just gave my pet the rumble spell and now it looks like he has a bad case of the hiccups. It's just about the most adorable thing I've ever seen.

Same. I haven't put a lot of time into it... maybe 2-3 hours, but so far it's great fun. I like it a lot more than TL1.

Act 2:

Spoiler:

!@$% the Sand Hulk and his rock prison. Most annoying creature ever.

all three in this house agree the graphics are much richer and nicer/prettier than the first one. Comparing them to D3 would be like comparing Hero Academy to SStarcraft 3 or TF2 to Crysis2.

The graphics rock. It's like T1, but better. Sweet game.

Up to 30s with my Engineer on Veteran now. Enough variety, although the cannons are a bit useless compared to two-handed melee weapons. I have to have one, though, because occasionally I have to backpedal from a tough fight and thin it out a bit with spider bombs before wading in.

Loving the enemy design. There's still a bit of the T1 issue of hitting the same guys over and over again, but it's nowhere as bad here.

Worst thing that's happened is my offline play hasn't registered with Steam's stats, so I'm missing some 10+ achievements and 12 hours of time. Also there's been a couple of enemies where I just can't make a dent and the fight takes ages... maybe a sign I need to diversify my arsenal a bit.

Also, I can't imagine hwo hard it would be to read what's going on in an MP game.

I guess I'm the odd one out. It's probably rose coloured glasses for the original.

One thing that's certainly great is the music, Blizzard really should have shovelled a truck load of money at Matt Uelmen to get him back for Diablo 3, the music he does for Torchlight is amazing.

The style is the same as the first game, but they're smoother and more rounded. Lots of nice little touches as well that show a good deal of care putting the game together. GWJCC has a little on this, I think in the last episode.

The spell and other particle effects seem to have the greatest improvements. The Berserker transparent-wolf effects especially are superior to anything I remember in TL1.

I like it better than D3 as well, but not because of the graphics. I prefer it because it doesn't make me feel like a rat in a Skinner box grinding through the same sh*t over and over again all for the privilege of screwing around in a broken auction house.

Stop holding back. Tell us how you really feel. (-:

Actually that's the edited version.

Yeah don't think I've played Borderlands since Thu. Tl2 ha its hooks in me.

I'm already at level 51 with my Engineer. The loot lust in this game is fantastic. I'm swtiching out items constantly.

Yup, rather than grinding gold to get upgrades from the auction house... I'm just getting items. Crazy.

Torchlight 2 got that part so right and, for me, that's D3 biggest failing. I have almost no wish to play the game because it got the loot aspect so frustratingly wrong. D3 has better and more interesting skills but that's it. Torchlight 2 feels like it has a soul. Diablo 3 felt soulless.

Also, Diablo 3 has a story that they want you to care about, and I wanted to, but it fell on its face. Torchlight 2 doesn't care if you care. It's there but it doesn't get in the way.

Still, these are different enough to coexist.

One thing that isn't getting a lot of talk, Torchlight 2 has a day night cycle. It's pointless but a really nice touch.

So far I like the combat mechanics in D3 better, but Torchlight 2 is a lot more rewarding overall. I bet multi will prove to be more fun, too. Invite please http://steamcommunity.com/id/complex...

I was digging around the Steam folder for TL2 to see if I could do any modding yet.

Turns out the the soundtrack is already on your machine if you bought from Steam.

So I just got a legendary bow drop from a random mid 40s trash mob

Lesson learned: kill everything

I've gotten decent loot out of urns and rocks and skulls and such (nothing like that bow though). I try my best to loot EVERYTHING, though it can get tiresome.

So what's the class demographics breakdown? I see a lot of people on here talking about their engineers. I haven't had a ton of time to play, but have gotten an embermage up to 5 or so, and an engineer to 9 (I think).

So... 16 hours later, still no friends list. Thought I would just submit a support ticket since I created a Runic Account for the game right? Wrong! Runic Support requires a different account.

So... I'll just post on the forum, or PM one of their support guys who is posting on the forum... Wrong! Still a different account.

So apparently the only thing the Runic Account I had to make to play Torchlight2 is good for is Torchlight 2. Except, not support or forums for Torchlight 2...

Why couldn't they just make the game Steamworks? This is ridiculous...

There's always trade-offs. For a start if you were to use steamworks, you'd either have to make all copies steamworks, or split the playerbase between that, and another system if you wanted to have a non-steam version, as TL and TL2 have. For a company like perfect world it's probably not ideal either, as they have their own account system or policies that mean you don't tie yourself and your customers to an external company.

As for all the separate accounts for the game/runic online/forums, that's a trade-off as well, as the separation that brings also means that unfortunate security breaches which will happen occasionally are limited in scope.

Steamworks isn't some magic wand that suits everyone, and you can't have it both ways

My favorite class so far is the outlander. Although right now I have a melee focused embermage that I'm having a lot of fun with.
