Borderlands 2 Catch-All

I'll just show this off here.

So this is probably not news to anyone, but there is a dude in Sanctuary named "Michael Mamaril" who will cough up a blue weapon when you talk to him. And you can do it repeatedly if you want (not consecutively on the same visit to town, but if you quit and reload or zone out to another area and come back to town etc.). You have to track him down though because he's not always in the same place.

Michael Mamaril was a major fan of the original game. He died a few years ago, and one of the things he wanted was for Claptrap to deliver a Eulogy for him. Gearbox dedicated a character in his honor.

Side note: bad guys who run away are annoying as hell, especially if they get in lucky shots that knock you down beforehand.

Does every character start off with Gearbox weapons if you have Premiere Club preorder bonus?

Skimming to avoid spoilers.

I'm having trouble with the weapon slots and backpack UI.
I can generally figure it out after a couple of clicks but it seems awkward.
Is there a secret?

Yup

There's two ways I use to put a gun in a weapon slot,
A: Click once on the slot, click once on the gun I want to put there.
B: Click twice on the gun in the backpack, click once on the slot I want to put it in.

I use A if I want to see if I've picked up a better gun than what's currently in the slot, and B to see if a specific gun is better than anything I already have equipped.
I think you can drag & drop as well, but I don't change out guns that way.

I have proof that Orange weapons exist! I got this off Captain Flynt on my first play through. I actually saw it at the same time as my first Blue, also off Flynt. Was a little weird seeing an Orange so early, I figured they were just more common now, but I guess I just got super lucky.

Edit: Weird, dunno how I managed that. Fixed now, 5 hours later...

I use the keyboard for all UI. Enter to select and move stuff in/out of slots. 1-5 to switch the pages in the backpack. The number keys will flip you through any actual inventory screen (so you can use them to flip between the buy back, purchase, and sell screens on a merchant... 1, 2, 3 respectively.).

They pretty much didn't improve the inventory management/menu system at all in BL2. The keyboard is still the easiest way to move around it, despite the fact that the player has a hand on the mouse basically the entire time they play the game.

Actually, they made it worse. I used the mouse to navigate the inventory in BL. It was primitive, but workable. The menu system in BL2 is downright unwieldy with a mouse.

I still haven't looted an orange, but I finally got a purple (excluding golden chest items). Old Slappy dropped it.

It's not all that great, but it was slightly better than the blue sniper I was using.

Also, my reward for the Old Slappy mission (given by Hammerlock) was actually more impressive, even though it's just a blue.

I really like Tediore weapons. Reload after every shot for maximum mayhem.

I just looted my first orange at lvl10; I have, on a completely unrelated note, discovered that I like weapons with unlimited ammo. Especially orange ones.

Bonus question: red weapon text "Now I am free". Anybody have any thoughts?

Some of you folks who are not seeing rare drops, go find a Goliath, shoot him in the head, get him to rampage enough to level up to God-like level, then kill him. It's like a purple item pinata. I always get one purple, my record is 3. I assume its a mechanic unless I'm just extremely lucky. The Goliath's level seems to determine the level of item drops, but I've not experimented enough yet to say for sure.

In addition to the drops, it's just damned fun training a Goliath around a zone having him wreck anything in his way.

Goliaths creep me out. First time one of them ran at me with his destroyed head flopping around I actually jumped a little in my seat!

Creepy buggers!

LOL you know I totally forgot to activate that on my account.

So, I'm lvl 13 and picked up my first Orange. I picked up an Orange grenade that explodes creating 9 baby grenades. One word for it... Chaos. I hope it's not the only Orange I end up with.

At a gun vending machine, I just heard Marcus say "Catch a guuuuun! Ugh, never doing that again."

I LOL'd.

Alright you yahoos, apparently I should have complained about oranges a long time ago, because I just started a new Axton and before level 10 I already have an orange grenade and rocket launcher.

Glad I'm finally in the Orange Club. :p

I think you answered your own question:

LOGGINS

Speaking of weapons, does anyone like any Hyperion weapons? I tried them out there and there early on, but pretty much when I see "gets more accurate the longer you fire" it's instant trash for me. I found 1 incendiary pistol that was good, but only because the fire rate was so slow that it got accurate within 3 rounds or so.

BONERFART

Speaking on the Goliath thing, 1dgaf was telling me this weekend that it is an intended mechanic. The longer a 'headless' Goliath rampages, the more it levels up, hence better loot the longer you let it go before you kill it.

Got my siren up to the late teens in levels today- havent gotten to play any co op yet but still having a blast. I was starting to question whether I liked her cataclysm skill tree or not, but the last few skills I picked up have really ramped up her effectiveness. Feel free to drop in and say hi if you see me on!

On a completely unrelated note, after meeting Tiny Tina I'm kind of unreasonably excited for the mechromancer class to drop- they seem similarly characterized, if concept art is anything to go by : )

I think you also can click and drag a weapon over the top of another. You will get the comparison popup and then can let go if you want to replace.

You can also right-click for a popup option of compare.

At a New You today, it said "We would just like to remind you that the light you saw after you died was the re-digitization of your body and not a higher power. At least, not higher than Hyperion."

Assassins: what are you folks putting points into? I feel like going for sniper, but then that feels like it's completely ignoring his special ability. Buuuut, I'm not a big melee guy and he's very squishy close up. Would like to hear your thoughts on builds and tactics.

Nope. Unlimited ammo is something like "It's closer than you think (not really)". The "Now I am free" is on another weapon, and I can't see what it does that's out of the ordinary.

List of red text and their definitions can be found here: http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Sp...

Currently it's a work in progress. Looks like they haven't figured out your pistol yet Chumpy.

Marcus sounds quite similar to Strongbad, at least to me, anymore.

Also, the earlier music in the game gave me huge Dust Brothers / Fight Club soundtrack flashbacks.

Gunzerking rocket launchers. Pure joy, the way a boss just sort of goes pooooof. Well, boomboomboomboomboompoof.

How do you get the Goliaths to the "God Like" stage? We have tried several times to no avail.

I don't like you right now.

I have a lvl 23 commando, lvl 9 gunzerker and lvl 6 siren. Haven't looted a single orange item yet, and I've only looted one purple (at lvl 21 or so).

Along those same lines, if you let adult varkids start to cocoon into badass varkids, but destroy their pods before they hatch, you still seem to get the good loot you would if you had killed the badass version. A much easier "fight" for the same loot reward, it would seem.

Caustic Caverns in general is a great place to make money because of this and the crystal guys.

I haven't been paying attention to how long I let goliaths go versus the quality if their loot, but I will now.

Just killed Terra with a pub group. We failed once due to a stupid accident, and I suggested we do a 3 in 1 out strategy. That worked quite well. It's just really easy to die from bad accidents.

I went down the sniper line. I kinda regretted it around 15-17ish, but now I'm really liking it at 23. The penetration skill that shoots through 1 and hits the next is awesome. But I definitely use the special skill just about every chance I get. Your shot does more damage while stealthed, plus I have the skill that shows the crit zones while in the special ability, and on top of that I have the skill that builds up damage the longer I'm zoomed. So with that shot I can do a good 3000+ damage.
