Hawken - Catch All

I haven't read this whole thread. Have they implemented joystick support yet? That may be a silly question, like asking if the new car you are buying has a steering wheel...

I don't think we're supposed to talk about that stuff.

EDIT: Just saw this:

I checked the spam folder at got nothing. Sad panda.

Yesterday they reissued keys to people after some of the initial keys didn't work. On twitter, they said we could give the extras away. I've already offered mine to somebody, but there may be others here that got one that didn't know if they'd get in trouble for giving it away.

I just got a new "working" code (my first one seemed to work, as I installed and updated last night before I went to bed). I'm going to double check tonight when I get home, but if my initial installation works and I can play, I'll be happy to hand out this second code.

I will take it if you have the extra

Cool, you've got dibs. I'll let you know tonight.

I want to play this. Also, I need to play Borderlands 2. So, sadly, B2 is taking my time.

Hopefully they get the friend's list and party system up soon. The game is fun, but it would be better with a party in Vent.

I played it at PAX, and my fears were assuaged. It was super fun. I was a little skeptical while I was in line because it is not a game that is easy to watch - its a lot more twitchy than mechwarrior online seems to be. Once I started playing and was in control of the movement myself, everything fell into place. I actually got to play hide and seek in a giant mech while peeking out and firing at people. Brilliant!

I also talked with the lead designer, who was there, and asked him if they were planning on having any more open levels, since the two they were showcasing were very closed in urban/industrial settings. He said yes.

Wow this game is FANTASTIC! It feels great. The controls are really slick and feels like a Mech sim and a fast paced FPS had a baby. It really is a nice lend of the two.

My only complaints are pretty minor. Too much noise grain and motion blur. At the moment there is no way to turn off but it's Alpha right now.

Combat is really a blast.

I didn't get to play it much this weekend, but what I did was really fun (in spite of getting my ass handed to me pretty much the entire time). I was able to turn off the AO and motion blur in the advanced settings, though I honestly can't recall now if they actually turned off. I read somewhere in the forums that the advanced settings don't work yet, but that you could edit the settings *.ini file to make those changes (I didn't bother).

I tried to play last night but the launcher wouldn't launch the game (I think there's an update coming soon, as earlier in the day I was able to deploy but there was only one empty server with a one-player limit). I'm kind of fiending to play it again tonight.

So far I like the sharpshooter mech the best. I've gotten in first place in death match most times using it. The missile mech needs some work because it's too easy for other mechs to get close to you and the heat gun isn't very effective.

I heard a rumor that I may have gotten in Alpha.

Woohoo.

I did not get into the alpha and am not downloading it right this very second.

I did not too and won't be downloading it in the morning. No sir. Never. Not I.

Me three? If only there was a working friends system so we can get together. To Ventrilo!

It's too bad none of us got into the alpha and that I'm not registered under my usual name for friending purposes.

It's too bad there might not be friending implemented yet.

I didn't install it yet (not that I can, of course).

Er, hypothetically.

All I can say is that I'm not supposed to talk about it.

+1

Quiet you blasphemers! #1 rule of Hawken club. Don't talk about Hawken Club.

I see that absolutely none of us got in. Bummer.

I wonder if they are supporting joysticks....

To be honest it's not a joystick type of game. It's to twitch like. It's a hybrid of a sim and unreal tournament.

Keep your joystick for mech online.

I'm not sure how well it work work on Mechwarrior, either. But I'd generally agree with your statement after possibly playing both. If I was in the betas.

(Actually, I'm pretty sure about all you can say in either is that you're in the beta)

Funny thing, I'm in that beta but I never fired it up after downloading it. Perhaps I should do so now that I have things to compare it to.

You are probably right that it's too twitchy and probably feels like a lame FPS with a strange view.

But last I checked, MWO still isn't supporting three axis and without the third, I don't see how it can be played... kind of like trying to shoot a bow without a string... I'm sure it's coming though!

Having played both, a joystick only makes sense for Mechwarrior. I don't see how you could turn and aim fast enough in Hawken with one. Doesn't mean I don't want the damn thing, though!
