Torchlight 2 Catch-All

haven't bought a game on release date in... well years, due to pricing/maturity and issues like I'm getting tonight with Torchlight. I've spent over an hour trying to create a runic account and link it to my steam acct and am still unsuccessful because the site is so bogged down... This'll be the last time I break my 6-month rule for the forseeable future...

So I've played 5 minutes and I'm already impressed. Little things like the pet animations are obviously made with love.

More importantly, I only had to take a few steps to discover that the ponderously slow, "wading through honey" movement of D3 is not present here.

Looking very good.

Just hit 80 in GW2. Now I can play TL2. Perfect timing

Funny. Diablo3, I wanted to play single player, and couldn't at first because it was an online only game and there servers got scr***..

Today, I want to play TL2 MP with RL friends, and I can't, because there servers got scr***..

Oh hack and slash, when will you be perfect?

Lan play is wonderful now that I explained to windows that vmware isn't where to send TL2 packets.

me to please

I also wish the site wasn't so bogged down but it won't let me register my steam copy for multiplayer.

I got to about level 20 and the second zone (act?).

I'm enjoying it, but I've found it to be extremely 1 dimensional so far. I'm playing an Outsider and really only use 2 skills (the initial skill and the spit poison, make minions skill). Maybe I'm just doing it wrong, but as of now, I prefer D3's skills and choices. Maybe once a respec mod comes out, I'll have more fun with it. Until then, I'll play through it with all the classes and hope I find something that works for me.

Though TL2 would probably run OK in a VM. I could play multi-player with myself!

maybe. My problem was that windows/torchlight/directx simply ignored my wifi connection that the rest of my system uses without issue, including guild wars 2, l4d2, chrome, zune, itunes, firefox, spotify, steam, etc. Only tl2 insisted on using this vmware network adapter. And I don't even run a vm. I think I installed it ages ago to play with Linux.

If we didn't have 3 pcs and 3 torchlight2s I would probably still be banging my head on it... I'm the only one on wireless, the other 2 wired.

It's very weird.

Anybody know how to rename your character? I guess I have to wait until somebody makes a trainer...

I just finished off General Grell. I'm really enjoying the pace of the game so far. I've been able to make use of multiple skills as the engineer, it doesn't feel particulary one-dimensional for me at the moment. I have to say the fight against General Grell was much more intense than most fights in Diablo style games. He took a beating, that's for sure.

So far the online component seems spotty. Getting friends on the Runic list from Steam requires a manual refresh, and logging on is very slow. My guess is there are tons of people trying to sync their lists with Steam all at the same time. I guess they really are practicing for the MMO, launch day online troubles and all.

I use a ton of the Outsider skills. The jump back one is especially nice.

Well, from a few pages back, my license issue was resolved, it is nice to know folks who know folks. Steam credited my account for the four pack, and I promptly bought two, and made a steam account for my son. We also got to General Grell. He needs to get to sleep. He has told me 4 times that this is the best day ever. And you know, it is good for me, because it is prompting him to read and do some critical thinking when he has to choose between items.

If I can get an invite to the group, steam account is wickbroke also, friend me up. Probably done for the night, I don't want to play without Ian, so back to D3.

Duckilama, that does seem strange that the application preferred to attempt to route out via the VM adapter, when clearly all other traffic does not. Might even be worth a bug report.

Good to hear it all got sorted out, wickbroke.

Anyone getting the 4-pack for $60? I'd be down for that.

God this game is fun, only at level 8 with my embermage, but LOVING it so far.

Played about 3 hours with my kid tonight. Right good fun it was too. She's been chomping at the bit for this for weeks. So far very much like the beta, obviously. A few nice improvements too.

I look forward to seeing some new terrain in the following acts.

I'd appreciate an invite to the steam group (steam id is pacman1477).

A couple hours have me up to level 7 with an engineer. Really enjoying it so far, it just plays so smoothly, so easy to just keep clicking

Hmmmm, how odd. Now that the game's out no one cares whether the game is too late, too early, coming out in summer, conflicting with another game or that they can't fit it into their gaming schedule.

Lets see if this can replace my GW2 addiction.

Since you brought it up...

It's rather convenient that they promised summer of 2012 earlier this year and released it on the last (or next to last) day of summer.

Also, the only game, for me, that this is conflicting with, is dark souls, since gw2 and bl2 were flops.

Since he brought it up, those of us who originally complained or exclaimed utter surprise at their decisions don't feel the need to keep reiterating them again and again!

Haven't bought TL2, spent my Autumn game money on XCOM.

Well I spent a few minutes checking options... then set up my character... name... choose a pet... difficulty... start...

And I can't watch the opening cutscene, it stutters all to hell and back. I hit Esc, which skips it. I then try turning shadows from Very High to just High since I suspect with most games that's usually an intensive feature. I watch the cinematic from the main menu (Yay!) and it works.

Still, this doesn't leave me optimistic that it will run on my laptop. Maybe on all low settings like the first game... maybe...

Anyway not much time to delve in yet. But just thought my startup was funny. So much buildup and excitement and tension over who to choose... and then pbbbt...

agreed, there's no reason to bring them up again and I had this bought since June when it went up for preorder since I got in a 4 pack, I am unhappy how the servers are not letting me link my runic account to steam account but such is life and I really wasn't going to play it soon anyway just wanted to get that done.

Sorry, I should have added some "colon-P" to my (not particularly witty) post. Even though I'm a virtualization/cloud zealout, I wouldn't really run a DirectX game in a VM. I was just mucking about.

Glad you got it fixed and can get some Torchlight2 action.

Played 3 hours last night, got my berserker to level 13, really like it so far, but not that different from the first one. Wasn't expecting it too, but still.
Anyway, what I wanted to ask, I came across a pixie of some kind, so I killed it. It dropped a golden key, anyone have any idea what that's for?

And another question, when or where do I find merchants who can combine gems and enchant weapons? Haven't seen them yet in the first 3 hours of play.

There are golden chests in each zone which you need to find aformentioned key for.

The gem/gear removal guys seem to show up in the starting town after you pass a certain point in the story (not far in). Don't know about combining gems yet but I assume they'll turn up later.

You find enchanters randomly around the world I think (the little racoon things with the lightning bolts above their heads).

Oh and keep any eye out for spectral creatures - the portals they drop lead to some really cool challenges with OBSCENE amounts of lewt

estorino: Combining stuff is Act 2. Enchanters will pop up in the world, and will land in the town after a certain stage of Act 1.

RPS reports that there is a demo available, from Runic and on steam.

oh sure. I got your tongue in cheekiness.

I just wanted to make clear for anyone else that may run into this that I was *not* running a VM or through a VM. I just happen to *have* installed a VM at some point in the last three years. Just depositing that info for future troubleshooters.

Looks like the Runic site is back for syncing steam accounts.

Manage to get up there.

tho, I needed to change my account name, or rather, I wanted something closer similar to my nickname.

Oh well. Guess I'll use it anyway.

Has Runic announced a Mac OSX version?
