all the players, hurt
Arthur Collins, C: We've got a soft spot for people who have the tools above the neck, if not neccessarily below, and Collins is in that category.
o.O
Soo....Collins won't be having a girlfriend in every city, is that what we're saying?
(yessss...13 year old immature humor ftw!)
Now that I'm officially part of the league (finally got my team to export properly), I need to start wading into my roster and see exactly what I've got to work with. Being that Portland is in 5th place in the division, my guess is not too much. But hey, everyone isn't as mad as they used to be. So that's...something?
You can ask the game to set up your draft and then adjust the first however many selections.
I really hate their draft list setup.
I really hate their draft list setup.
It's not as bad as it could be, but it's very cumbersome and frustrating.
...I just want to draft well enough so that my lower-A teams aren't full of 1 star players. I NEEDS ME A FARM SYSTEM, YO!
...Also, I hope I don't get fired after this first season. The team owner is furious with me right now. This is turning out to be a very interesting season indeed lol

Heh, same here. Last season was clearly a case of beginner's luck for me!
*shakes fist at laptop*
Soo...I set up around 30 picks, then realized I was just setting up Round 1. So, I was going to copy the choices to all the rounds--which apparently just clears out ALL of the choices.
...Now I have no freaking clue who I picked before. GRRRRR.
So, is this new file going to be right before the draft, or the actual draft? I kind of don't want to take the time to recreate the draft board again LOL
Day of. So right before it starts.
Okay, so I don't have to scramble tonight to get my draft picks set. Got it
What the hell is this 'draft' you guys are talkin' about?
With the last pick overall in the first round, I just hope we end up with a dude that has 2 arms and 2 legs.
My pitching staff this season isn't nearly as good as it was last season. Struggling to maintain a .500 record.
I think my owner is going to be disappointed with his 'Reach the Playoff' expectation.
Good lord we're a mess right now. Injuries are destroying the team. Van Wright is in a massive slump. At least Derek McCoy is back to form and not giving up many runs. If only we could support our pitchers things would be looking up.
I think my owner is going to be disappointed with his 'Reach the Playoff' expectation.
Heh, that's why my owner is furious. There's no way the Knights are going to make the playoffs this season.
Romero isn't pitching to the level he did last year. I'm not sure what the heck else can explain my team's current problems.
Quick question--if I export my team more than once, is the latest export the one that takes? Or do I just get one shot at the export and that's it? I set up my draft list for a few players, then exported. Once I did that, I started looking at my Front Office and noticed there were some better coaches/trainers out on the market I wanted to pick up, so I did some housecleaning there too. I exported again, but I just wanted to make sure those front office moves were going to take as well.
Bah! I was all excited thinking the draft was going to be done today. Alas, tomorrow. Can I wait?!?!?!!! I don't know!!!
1.) It's a weak draft.
LIES!
Actually no, it was a pretty weak draft for what I'm looking for to be honest. I hope that I get at least one or two of the guys I'm scouting, but from what I was looking at I bet my list looks pretty close to a lot of teams' lists, so it might end up being a wash for me. Bring on the 1 stars!
2.) Denver and Vancouver desperately need to start refilling their farm systems. Vancouver, because the team is aging and is staring at a potentially very painful period of re-tooling when Gomez et al retire, Denver because they don't have a single minor leaguer in our top 100 prospects.
I don't have any guys in the top 100 now because they are all moved up in an attempt to find someone who can actually hit a baseball out of the infield.
Buncha greedy bastards this year.
"I know I was taken 67,483rd in the draft but I think I deserve a $10MM signing bonus or I will go to college."
"Son, have fun matriculating! We'll see you in four years. Maybe."
Denver draft: two catchers that may be pretty good, one that looks like he may be close to ML-ready. One pitcher that may end up as a journeyman after some development. A bunch of guys I won't/won't be able to sign. Grade: D-
Yeah seriously. I have no interests in any of my draft picks.
Luckily none of them are asking for a whole lot of money. Whatever.
Ugh. I didn't get any of the catchers. None.
Woooo! I actually think I did fairly good. I wouldn't have complained if I picked up one of the starting pitchers I had scouted out, but I got a SS I really wanted and at a discount. 5 decent players that have major league potential (and a 6th that I could take or leave) and all demanding less than a million? Yup, I'll take that
Grade: B+ (At least, I'm HOPING it's a B+)
Picks:
SS Clint Wood -- While his primary position is SS, it looks like he's got good 1B potential. In addition, he's got some amazing speed with good contact.
CL Rafael Rojas -- With Jose Chaves getting up in years, Portland is hoping that Rojas can develop into a solid replacement
2B Luis Duran -- A young kid (guess they'd all be, yeah?) with the ability to hit for power, amazing range and natural defensive ability, the only thing that has Portland worried is how antsy he gets at the plate.
RF Chistian Deleon -- Not much to really say about this prospect. A pretty average player that adds a little depth to the team
MR Zach Cole -- If they couldn't pick a solid starting pitcher, Portland is more than happy to settle on Cole to strengthen the bullpen. With a little work, Zach can be used as a set up guy or to hold the opposition for a couple of innings.
That was a decidedly underwhelming draft result. I'd give it a C.
Didn't get a decent catcher, or even an infielder really. One guy wants WAY the hell more money than he's possibly going to get out of me, so I'm lowballing him and if he doesn't like it, he can eat dirt.
I did at least get a few decent outfielders who are willing to take reasonable signing bonuses (and the RF I got in the first round, while not all that impressive overall and I have concerns about whether he can live up to his potential, was more than reasonable in his asking price so I met his demand without any quibbling).
I wish every day were sim day.
I wish every day were sim day.
While on the one hand I like that idea, on the other hand I have enough busy days/evenings that, particularly when I need to take time to really dig into the data to make decisions for my team, the every-other-day schedule is sometimes a necessity.
