Borderlands 2 Catch-All

They replaced the weapon proficiencies with the badass rank system, right? Demyx and I couldn't find any mention of proficiencies this morning when discussing weapon loadouts and whether it was better to focus on a couple of weapon types this time.

Correct. Very much a change for the better in my eyes. No more running around using a sh*tty sniper rifle on weak enemies just so I can have my sniper proficiency up on the off chance I find a sweet sniper rifle I want to use.

I just came in here to make a guilty confession. I understand if you guys won't want to play with me anymore and shun me once you learn this. I'm not proud, but I feel I owe it to the community to be up front about this before someone accidentally joins my game in multiplayer and beomes sullied by my presence.

I'm using a controller to play this game....on the PC.

I understand if you want me to leave the Steam group. I'm not proud. It just....it feels so good, so natural to play this game with a controller. There are only a couple of FPS games that I've used a controller on (Bulletstorm & Borderlands 1 being the notable ones).

So...yeah. Sorry you had to find out like this. *shuffles off, a cord with a controller attached to it dragging behind him*

I bet you eat your food with your hands at the dinner table too.

*adjusts monocle*

Just as long as you aren't turning on the easy mode aim assist its not that big of a deal. I don't hate on controllers (just would never even remotely consider one for a first person shooter, i prefer accuracy). I played both darksiders 2 and sleeping dogs on a pc with a controller.

OK, I'm level 8, and need to get my co-op on soon. Dakhath sent me an invite last night and I tried to join on his game, but it kept timing out. Frustrating.

Before I went to bed, I did try to hop into iaintgotnopants co-op game for a second, and I was able to join, so I don't think I'm broken. Maybe more of just some of the weird stuff going on with Steam last night.

I'll definitely be playing tonight if anybody's in level range with me.

You aren't alone! I'm really enjoying playing this with a controller on the PC. Elbows on the desk, controller in hand, I think it is a very comfortable way to play.

I need to play some coop soon. I soloed last night for a few hours and found myself getting bored. I dunno just me personally I think I have to have a compelling story to play through a game single player and I wouldn't describe BL2's story as anything close to compelling.

What level are you now? I'm definitely ready for some co-op, either with a new character or my Zero that's level 8. I'm a bit more flexible on time tonight, but generally will get on around 8-9 central.

Having lots of fun. If there's anything to complain about it's that I'm swimming in handguns and shotties but I'm trying to focus on sniping. I've never found a sniper rifle; I've only had the pre-order one and a quest reward. From level 9 both look pretty crap.

By the way, if anyone wants to drop in or drop out of my game, feel free. If you're on my friend list and your game is open you should expect me to sneak on by. Better drops for playing with friends!

Yeah, that's my stance. If anyone doesn't want surprise visitors I'd recommend setting it to LAN, or invite only if it has that, I can't remember. Of course if I crash your party I won't be offended if you say you're doing your own thing. Speaking for myself, if I join someone else's game I don't chest raid or trigger quests unless it's established that's accepted.

Just added myself to the 360 list. Wasn't able to play much last night due to a power outage but I'm hoping to get some time in this weekend.

Found what I think is a decent, easy-to-harvest early loot chest and would love it if someone at a different level could confirm... Edit: I've hit it at level 10 and below.
I've hit it three times now and each time the items were about 2-3 levels higher than my current.

Spoiler:

Climb to the top of the pipes immediately to the right after jumping the gap at Three-horn something or other. Where you get your first vehicle.

I played two characters to level 7 last night (one single, one in a group of 4), and the writing is much, much stronger than the first game. The skill/spec options seem a lot better balanced this time, too. I actually want to use all 3 trees, which I never felt like in BL1.

To those of you who like me missed the 25% coupon and pre-order;

Can't get the free mechanomancer class anymore but GMG still has the main game 20% off with
GMG20-AWDF9-Q1PEY and the season pass 20% off with GMG20-27J4Z-8NXHO for a total of $62.40.
Of course they'll probably be on for 33-50% off on the steam fall or Christmas sale if you're patient.

Just a note for Citibank holders: Citibank thinks GMG is a gambling site and won't approve int'l purchase, best to go through Paypal.

I just called them the first time after it got declined on my Chase card, and things have been fine since then.

I'm going to make a slight prediction here:
Axton is Handsome Jack's son. If you look at some of the promo stuff out there, there is definitely a resemblance. I haven't played as Axton yet so I don't know for sure.

Hope I'm not skimming, but did anyone else notice Axton's voice actor is Rob McCollum, of Orcs Must Die fame? That guy could read the nutrition information on a milk box and crack me up. Best part of playing Axton really.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I'm taking off work today, tomorrow and Friday (Borderlands 2 mini-vacation!), so if you see me playing (PC) feel free to join or PM me on Steam.

I've already played about 7 hours. First, I tried the new siren to check out her action skill. I wasn't very impressed, so I started a commando character, which feels good seeing as I played mostly as the soldier in the first game. I think I'm currently at level 8 and doing the Plan B mission.

I really like that the commando's turret can be picked up before it expires, which reduces the cooldown time for its next deployment. And how much the cooldown is reduced is proportionate to how soon you picked it up. Very cool.

I get the folks playing with the controller--is anyone else on PC still sllightly miffed about the menuing system? The Character Sheet, lack of easy item comparison on mouse over, no click and drag... It is better than it was in BL1 for sure, but after they spent all that marketing time suggesting the interface will be easier to use on the PC this time around, I'm a little dissappointed.

I'm always up for multiplayer--looking forward to getting back online with some Goodjers!

Feel free to steam-friend me and drop in/out any time I'm on!

I'm trying not to dwell on it, but the 3D spiffication of the UI has made things needlessly more cumbersome too.

I can't figure out how to swap in a gun half the time.

I agree that it's a little unintuitive but there is click and drag. Click on the backpack panel to make it active, click on a weapon once to select and then click again and drag. You can drag it over other guns in the pack as well as equipped guns to compare stats, release to switch.

I also like how you can mark guns as favorites or to sell (hover over right border of gun box and X and star appear, click once to label. A little buggy as sometimes it doesn't show up until you close inventory and reopen). Makes for a lot fewer mistakes selling at the gun kiosk, or switching equip on the fly during an encounter.

Has anybody picked up/found any corrosive/shock/slag weapons? So far I've found a lot of fire and some exploding, but I just reached Sanctuary (lvl 10) so I'm guessing they should start showing up soon.

Eurgh. Trying to make this spoiler free (not that it's really a spoiler, but better safe...)

Mission had me killing a monster (with wings).
Died before I killed it.
Can't find monster again.

I've been running around the area for about 20mins, tried leaving the level and coming back... I guess that mission is just always going to be 'open'.

DON'T LIKE THIS FEEL.

I'm really enjoying the game so far but I've just run into the first mission that has me wondering what the designers were thinking: Medical Mystery. I think it is a level 8 mission but it is by far the hardest and most frustrating mission I have encountered.

Spoiler:

Dr. Mercy's gun doesn't hurt so much but every so often he throws these grenades that all but one-shot you. I suffered my first death to Dr. Mercy and then died about four more times before I was able to kill him. Maybe it was just me but I couldn't dodge his grenades and he just killed me over and over with them. Then, when you get the gun and start the next mission to kill the 25 bandits, the gun chews up ammo so fast I don't think its possible to kill all 25 bandits without finding an ammo vendor at least two or three times. Unfortunately, the nearest ammo vendor has no power so you have to go back to sanctuary multiple times just to reload on ammo to kill the bandits with the new weapon. Very unfun.

While I don't have a problem with the other menus, I do find the inventory menu a bit disappointing. You can click and drag to equip new items, but it's quite janky. Gearbox definitely improved the PC options (video, audio, etc.), but they missed the opportunity to also nail down the inventory management, something that is very important in a loot fest game. Like you said, hovering over an item should display a tooltip that shows the stats of the same type of item(s) you have equipped. And to equip an item for which you only have one slot (grenade, shield, class mod), a simple double click should equip that item.

Spoiler:

Take a look around, its possible to power up that ammo vendor. Its the one at the Lucky Pig motel, right? And yes, trying to find enough AR ammo to feed that gun gets annoying long before you kill all 25.

That dude kicked the crap out of me five or six times. Then when i did finally kill him, the thing you need to get off of him fell through the world. Luckily, when I quit and reloaded, it was sitting there waiting for me.

I found what I thought was a cool spot after accidentally driving of the edge of the world near the Sanctuary zone.

I fell off the cliffs but landed on solid ground. I wandered for a little bit before I found what looked like a small cave. The opening was barely big enough to crouch through, but I thought to myself, "Awesome! They've anticipated people falling off and have given them a way back up!"

...not so much. The cave led through the cliffs and left me about 25ft under the surface of the world. Very cool, but with no where to go, I leaped to my digitized death and drove more carefully next time.

If I have a criticism so far it's that the game seems awfully stingy with skill points.

Having a good time though. I think my problem with the first game wasn't so much the game itself as it was playing it on the Xbox. That was the time period when my views on FPS games on consoles had just started to sour a bit and I remember feeling like I was fighting the controller half the time and the game got the blame.

Having way more fun with 2 on the PC and I haven't even fiddled with co-op yet.
